the software should tell you the speed that you are receiving and viewing the images at.

I think you could probably get faster than 6fps depending on your connection speed, as long as the server can handle uploading it to the internet fast enough and there are no bottlenecks in between. I've sent you a link via e-mail to my streamed video. Instead of clicking on " 1 window " on the second screen, try clicking on "Multi-view". You'll automatically download a small program and then you should get a multiple display window open. Follow the login details that I've sent you by e-mail and when the camera view opens you should see what your fps is on the right hand side of the screen near the bottom. At least you'll have an idea then.....

yes, I have noticed that the fps slows down when you add more cameras even when you are just viewing. There is a real-time display card available for the more expensive Geo cards which brings the displayed video up to full-motion per camera even though the recorded frame speed may be lower. AV Expert is really the authority on the Geo stuff. I've uploaded some files to my web space. They are about 1 minute long each, and recorded at 1fps, 3fps, 6fps, 10fps, and 16fps. I'm recording in PAL so the max frame rate is slower than the 20fps possible with NTSC. When you are ready to d/l them I'll send links to you so you can find them. As regards the frame rate over the internet - I can view some demo sites in the US at around 6fps total. Sometimes it's less than 1fps. It depends on the speed of your connection, the servers connection, and other factors. I have a 512k ADSL.

I bought the GV250 around 6 weeks ago. I have the 8 port version without audio and it is being used for a home surveillance system. Currently I have only one camera installed and the system records at 16fps (PAL). I have tried using another video source (Sony Playstation) to simulate 2 cameras working at the same time. Obviously there is a visible difference as the total fps was then split between the two inputs, however it showed me that I could probably have four cameras recording simultaneously and the fps per camera would still be adequate for what I need ie intruder recording. You need to decide whether you require full motion video (25fps PAL or 30fps NTSC), and then decide how many cameras will be recording at any one time. I am using motion detection recording and I doubt I will ever have more than two cameras recording at the same time. If you would like me to record some short files for you at whatever fps etc, I will do so and you can download them and play them (you'll need a cable/dsl connection) Steve

No, I don't use either (yet). Just a standard GV250. Mind you, I hadn't given that any consideration when I ordered the UPS which I suppose I should have. -

I'm running short on USB ports and my only modem is an internal PCI ADSL so I have two COM ports free. -

Thanks Expert. I got the e-mail and I've just ordered a UPS with auto-shutdown software. I've chosen the Belkin product as they have a good name. https://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?BEL-F6C525 Steve -
SKY is a satellite television service. "SKY DIGITAL" would be a digital satellite receiver. I'm guessing a "booster" is an amplifier designed to be fitted between a terrestrial television reception antenna and a television in order to amplify the signal.

thanks. I've e-mailed you asking for details of the software based UPS. The damn thing did it again last night - all yesterdays files disappeared. I use an automatic disk defragmenter (Diskeeper Pro) and I've now turned that off as well in case it's causing any issues. -

I've tried the repair utilities but they just report that the files are ok as the "missing" files are not there. Strangely, when I try to view the files in XP via "My Computer" the files are not showing either. They are normally sorted into date order with one folder for each dates files. The folders are also gone. There is now only one folder remaining - todays date - and any files from before 0730 on that date are missing too. I have tried using System Restore and reverting to yesterdays date but the files are still missing. I think that the files have been deliberately deleted - probably by Geovision itself. I am running the Geovision software on a 10 Gb partition (c:) and the files are stored on a 100 Gb partition (D:). I was down to 94Gb free space before this problem and I'm now back up to 98Gb. There is nothing in the geovision activity logs to suggest that it might have recycled the files. Steve -
Does anybody have any experience of this cam and would they recommend it for day/night surveillance covering approximately a 7 meter length of driveway ? Also, is it likely to be IR sensitive ? http://www.prosecuritywarehouse.com/fixedhighrescolor.html thanks

It's about 23 feet

A friend of mine started an alarm business (one-man-band) about three months ago. He's fitted an alarm for a customer who now wants a CCTV system installed at his home. He's quoted him £1500 - £2000 for a standalone DVR and two colour bullet cams. Not bad for half a days work!!

Where can I get good quality RG95/2 (RG59 + 2 core) in UK?
steve6690 replied to biggerbyfar's topic in General Digital Discussion
Try these people. I have no idea about the quality. I've just bought their RG59 cable and it was Ok. http://www.securitysupermarket.fsbusiness.co.uk/3581.htm -
Aha ! Fixed it. When I installed the new version, the final option was whether I wanted a shortcut added to the Start Bar. I selected "No" because there was already a shortcut on the bar to GV250. I've just re-installed the upgrade and selected "yes" for the Start Bar shortcut and that has rectified the problem. I love the new features in V6.0, especially the multi-view webcam window.

I've tried that but it still won't play. Strange...

I just installed version 6 and I think it's great but now my system won't autostart when Windows starts. Ah well......gives me something to do I suppose.

Fixed it !! I followed these steps from brevardsurveillance.com support pages. "Another method is to check your browser webcam plug-in. Go to Explorer, please make sure it is version 5.5 and above, select "TOOL" menu, select "INTERNET OPTIONS", select "SETTINGS" button, and select "VIEW OBJECTS". Remove "WebcamX" or "LiveX control" plug-in and close all the Windows. Restart your Internet Browser again, and start up web cam. This will force the system to reload the latest version of "LiveX(5.4.0.0)Control" plug-in." I think that the problem may have been caused because I didn't have the East Asian language support installed on my PC when I installed the Geovision software. Now that I have installed it, and re-installed the plug-in as above, everything is fine. Thanks to everyone for helping me out. Steve

Yes, the film is "Seven" starring Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman. One of my favourites. I probably shouldn't really be streaming it over the internet........ I've installed the language pack and I'm still getting the same problem. Strangely though, when I view the Geovision demo site in Taiwan the characters are displayed correctly, but the UK Geovision demo site displays the "???" again on my PC. I'm still running ver 5.401 of the software and when I installed it I wasn't offered a choice of languages/regions but all the menus etc are in English.

it doesn't work when I click on the link in my message but works ok when I type the address in myself. http://81.86.129.112/LanMpegView0.htm

working now. It helps if I turn it on.

You get what you pay for (usually !)

The picture of the card on the site is very similar to the cheapo cards on UK Ebay for £22.99. They have the PICO2000 software bundled too. Look at item 2980148392 on Ebay.co.uk. Of course, it doesn't mean that they aren't any good.

Hi all, Geovision claim that their G250 and G600 cards will work with AMD CPU. Does anybody have any actual experience of this ? I have XP2800+ Barton in a GigaByte GA-7VAX-A M/board running XP Pro. I am also considering the X-Vision cards if anybody has any knowledge - www.y3kstore.com I intend to ignore the cheap cards on Ebay. Thanks in advance Steve

DVR Cards & AMD CPU
steve6690 replied to steve6690's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Sure!. I don't mind posting the ip address here. It's http://81.86.129.112/lanmpegview0.htm.user = demo, password = demo. It won't be working for a few days as i haven't any cameras installed. I used an olympus digital photographic cam to set up the GV250. I hope to have a cam set up on the driveway in the next couple of days but I'm trying to make my mind up which colour bullet cam to go for. I'm looking at a Sony Ex-view 480 TV lines with 4-9mm varifocal, which will go to 0.1 lux but I really don't know if that is suitable as a day/night cam as it's quite dark on my drive at night, or whether I should go for a cheaper cam with IR. I'd like fairly discreet cameras if at all possible as I don't really want to draw attention to them. All I'm after is a very clear image both night and day - (aren't we all !) I'll let you know when the cam is up and running. Regards Steve
