  1. That has already been developed. Maybe not to the extent, but defining Unattended Objects and Missing Object technology has been around for a couple of years now. Scottj

    Help With Geovision POS

I have the original Data box if you need it. Always remember that the V2 box is serial, regardless of the DB25 connectors and dip switches. The ONLY thing to pay attention to is the actual output from the POS to the printer communication. Is it serial or parallel? If it is serial, don't bother using the Data mods, they just add expense that is 99% never needed. If it is Parallel, use the old Data box. Scottj
  8. Oh ok, well we typically use the Nitek gear with just a Cat5e. It is a great idea though I have to agree. Scottj
  9. Siamese, Triamese, etc etc.......I have had very few installations where we mounted the DVR's and P/S cabinets in the same room, except when using UTPLink equipment from Nitek where everything is rack mounted. I can see suing wire such as this for smaller retail shops, etc where you are limited on space or if you choose to utilize a server room/IDF closet for the equipment. How many of you guys actually find a need for this type of cabling? Just a little curious, I just have never seen the real value in my arena of usage. Scottj
  10. you mean OEM software from GeoVision right? The boards are made by UDP since GeoVision doesn't make the boards themselves, they only do software. Scottj

    HUPER DVR

I have tested the Huper Labs boards and they are not too bad, but still I prefer the Geo for PC based as a package solution. The motion detection in the Huper software was a little flaky and was not the easiest to adjust, but the GUI is user firendly for an end user. From a price point, the Huper is a little cheaper over the Geo depending on the specifications of the board. Overall, I think if you need to spec Huper in a bid, you will probably be OK. It was a stable system as we had it run about 5 months without a failure or lockup. Scottj

  13. IF anyone has a place to recommend where we can get RJ-45 serial to DB25 serial gender changers, it would be very much appreciated. Scottj
  14. They are big with the office furniture datacomm snap-in connectors and such. Here is a link: http://www.hubbell-premise.com/main.asp We use some of their connectors for the POS applications with the Geo, it may interest you. Main link is: http://www.hubbell.com/ Scottj

    Geovision POS

absolutely agree with you Sal. Besides, the Epsons are used in most gas stations that are using Gilbarco G-Site and Ruby Verifon SS POS which seems to be the popular areas for this application. The Gilbarco G-Site is just pinning out a connector a little modified, as well as the Ruby. We don't even use the Data Capture modules, they just get in the way and add cost. Scottj

    Help With Geovision POS

hell, we eliminate the Data Capture modules if the printer is serial Epson. We found that the Data Module just causes headaches and all those gender changers etc...yuck. Split the serial COM port from the POS unit and send one cable to the printer, the other to the DVR. Only connectors you should need after that are RJ-45 to DB9. You might have to cross a couple pair over depending on the unit (Ruby Verifone for example). Scottj
  17. Thanks guys, actually got it all taken care of from Hubbel. We needed some of their other parts and the pricing was decent ordering in volume. Thanks again. Scottj

The Pelco model you mention is a very basic PC based unit. Finding something better at a much reduced price will be easy. Few questions to ask are: 1.) Do you want a PC Based unit? 2.) What FPS rate are looking to achieve per video channel, and at what resolution? 3.) What feature are the most important to you for your system? (Remote Access, PDA Viewing, Smartphone, Basic Recording? Just a few things to decide for you. We can help you find something well within your budget. Scottj
