    GEovision PC Reboot

Sure that could always happen (the intruder with the rock issues), however in your situation there is no guarantee that you would even catch the intruder on video before he threw the rock, correct? I think it would be better to get minimal footage and a broken camera knowing that you have imagery of the intruder, versus nothing on video and a broken camera.... A hurricane or a tornado could come through and wipe out the cameras too, but at least you would get to see the big wave or funnel cloud a few seconds before it touched down if you have your cameras working (assuming the DVR is still in tact.) Right? Scottj

    GEovision PC Reboot

Well the system is doing what it is designed to do. You can either diable those cameras and keep the good ones running, or fix the connectivity. The only other way to disable that function is going to require you to change some code in the software. If you have a copy of VB or C++ it can be done. But honestly I would climb in the attic and call it a day. Besides, what good are the cameras if there is no video present? Not meant to offend you. scottj

Are you getting "Video Lost" errors? The first thing to determine is if the system is configured properly. Let me know. scottj

    GeoVision & PTZ Touring Question

Awesome! Any other noted improvements? It still needs work, but then again what software made overseas doesn't? The dual skin option is decent, looks like the designer finally dropped the Crayolas and used some new tools. The advanced Motion Detection is "Ok" at best. It is extremely sensitive and not the easiest to setup and adjust, but overall they are moving in the right direction. Most of the actual features are still the same, a new H.264 codec, and a few other minor fixes involving audio remote applications etc. scottj
  7. It's not used since Direct Overlay is active upon startup via DSP. Same concept as when you use the seperate DSP board with say a GV-800 board. Yes, you can disable the DSP Overlay and then use the AGC control from the GV-800, but when you enable DSP Overlay the AGC is no longer active for Video Attributes. This is normal. scottj

    GEovision PC Reboot

They are all "supposed" to shutdown and restart the software, but as you have experienced some of the Geo boards and multiple software versions have made this an inconsistent feature. scottj
  9. Actually iwatch, it is a watchdog function (hardware watchdog). The scheduled auto reboot is a completely different feature which is controlled by software. Connect the jumper to the reset pins on the mainboard, leave the scheduled reboot disabled, open the main software and then close it down and exit. Wait 4 minutes 20 seconds and watch the system reboot. scottj
  10. You guys that are using the Combo boards need to use an ATI 9600 or better VGA card. The reason is primarily because the card you are using does not support DirectX 9 (only 8 at best). The 9600+ boards will support 9.0. If you don't use a board that supports DirectX 9.0, you will notice that you have extreme horizontal line shifting during Live display when you look at a camera in a single channel, full screen, or 6 position window tile. Even if you use 640x480 or 720x480 De-Interlace), it will make no difference. If you can get rid of the socket 478 setup and use 775, you can use a PCI-Express VGA card (ATI x300 or better) and you notice a drastic increase in quality. Scottj

I have version 7.1 (Beta)......... scottj
  12. It is reliable if the system is built correctly. I wouldn't recommend a Dell, but sometimes I understand you have to work with what you have due to budget. scottj

    About compatible devices for geovision.

Heck, we probably have a few laying around the office. I will be back in there on Thursday. Let me check and see which ones they are and if I have one you can have it as long as you pay the freight.
  15. The primary purpose of the hardware watchdog with the Geo system is to reboot the entire system in the event that "someone" shuts down the main software and decides to surf the internet or just be plain curious. Then they walk away from the machine without starting recording again......seen it a few times. If the watchdog reboots, then the system goes through the startup routine and will begin recording again. WAAAALAAAA

    Bad GeoVision Octi-Cables?

Make sure you have the right set of cables. Some have audio, some do not. Even though they fit the D-Sub means nothing. The pin-out has to match.

    About compatible devices for geovision.

The modem has to be an External modem, and they are not cheap like the internal modems. There is a list of verified working modems on Geo's website. Also, how is the amplifier cheaper than using a 10.00 piezo siren? Sure it will work, but fi you ever decide to use the bi-directional audio feature it will be a pain.

    VIA Chipset by chance?

    About compatible devices for geovision.

The GV-NET is only an RS-485 to RS-232 convertor, nothing more. What you need is a DI/DO board (GV-NET/IO). This will give you four digital inputs and four relay outputs in order to add a sepearte motion detector (or a siren as you mention). Please refer to the folling link: http://www.geovision.com.tw/english/product/gv-net-io-cardA.pdf scottj
  20. let me test something here, give me 5 minutes and then I will send a link for you to try. scott
  21. You cannot use IIS on the same machine running the Geo Web Servers. IIS will take system priority and it will literally shutdown the Webcam Server in the Geo Software. You will need to either open the ports 3550, 4550 etc, or port forward those to your own ports of preference. scottj

    Motion sensors for dvr?

yep...standard motion sensor can be used. Ademco is probably one of the least costs. scottj

    GEovision PC Reboot

I have also seen cheap cases that have poor grounding issues for the mainboard cause the same problem. I do agree however that for the amount of effort it takes to replace the power supply (4 screws), it is worth swapping first. Power supplies are typically low cost so not a big issue to worry about. scottj
