Most stable stackable solution?

You need more money. 40 camera deployment on a shoestring budget is just a bad idea. Your deployment is only going to be as quality as the equipment from cameras, power supplies, to head end gear. Scottj -
Good 16 chan Recorder post your experiences :P

http://www.made-in-china.com They have tons of standalones available, some similiar to other brands mentioned in the forum lately. Might be worth taking a peek. -

Put the DVR on a VPN with a hardware firewall. Then access the VPN prior to the DVR machine. This will give you another means of security, however what is the definition of "secure" these days anyways? If someone wants to get into hacking your unit, they could just as easily hack a sub domain of a hosted website. It is all relative to the information on the unit. Scottj

Outdoor Rated Siamese Cable

Ahhh.......well then.... Take a look at the Videocomm 5.8Ghz Tx/Rx kits, or even MicroTek's 5.8Ghz wireless products. http://www.videocommtech.com/index.php?SCREEN=view_catalogue_level4&model_ID=378 One kit per camera is required, however you only would use this type of equipment when using an analog camera set. The quality is installed correctly is very good whether using either brand. As VSTman described earlier, you could use an IP solution which consist of IP cameras or video servers and just create a VLAN environment and backhaul the video feeds to a server for archiving. Software packages such as MileStone work well and are within a reasonable budget. For the size of your installation as you mentioned to me on a previous conversation, if you can stick to wired versus wireless I think you will be much better off. It would probably be cheaper to bore conduit underground between the buildings and stick to a complete analog to DVR solution. Scottj -
It appears to be a useful tool in my opinion. Certainly gives an installer and edge on the competition. Scottj

Outdoor Rated Siamese Cable

This thread sounds all fine and good, however I am still trying to figure out how you guys are planning on transmitting your video feeds from a traditional analog camera using D-Link gear from Newegg.com. I see nothing more than just establishing a low cost "VLAN" if you will. Based on what I am reading (unless I am just not reading this correctly) Tom is wishing to transmit wireless video from each camera point back to the head end DVR. I don't see how 200 bucks of D-Link gear is going to accomplish this? Please clarify here if you will Tom, or correct me if I am just missing something obvious because I am tired this morning? Do you mean Venetian? Wow, if Chicago was before your day, I feel old as hell and I am barely teasing my way around my early thirties...yikes! Scottj

Nice little 4 channel unit here. Put one in my last SUV and it worked great, although watching the recorded video of me driving makes the stomach a little uneasy. Scottj

How does Coyote Ugly at New York/New York sound? Cold beer, fleshy eye candy, good food.....What more can a guy want? Don't answer that. Scottj

The image quality is slightly better as well, only the recorded quality as it does not affect the live viewing. It is an improvement, however the cost factor for a smaller install would not justify the added expense. Scottj

PAL recording problem...anything moving 'tears'(photo incl.)

Verify that your VGA board and drivers support DirectX 9.0 as well as De-Interlacing feature. I suggest using an ATI chipset (x550 or better) with Catalyst Drivers (download from ATI website). These drivers use the De-Interlacing controls which we have had success with when running into the same exact issue. Scottj -
If you use the Geo based system with Kalatel Cyberdome cameras, you will need to use a KTD-312 converter. Scottj

10K? Wow, seems a bit steep unless there is massive storage arrays. Scottj

We have experienced just the opposite, but each area of the US can vary. As for the wireless gear, I still feel the VLAN with Motorola is a great option for covering Brockton, MA such as he is trying to accomplish. Scottj
