which protocol and which baud rate
scottj replied to jeromephone's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
Use 9600 if using Pelco P, 2400 if Pelco D protocols. scottj -
Absolutely agree with you Thomas. scottj

Please elaborate. We have Edimax equipment that has maintained steady uptime ranging from 1-2 years in the field with absolutely no interruption of service. IMO D-Link is designed for home users to share DSL or cable so that their kids can play Halo online. Any router that ships from the factory with default "gaming" ports configured is not something I would want to use for a professional commercial installation. (unless the Security Guards wish to play games). scottj

Forums popping up all over the place........I guess some people are not to happy with this particular forum any longer???? scottj

ask Sal about eh Milestone software Rory, I know he deals it.
-
they can work, but we have found the Edimax units to be very reliable and withstand power issues, etc. Easy to update the firmware etc. I must say they have been the best we have used

Edimax...rock solid and very cost effective

easily. effectively just using a contact at each panel you wish to monitor. You could even tie it in the an existing DVR etc. scottj

sent you an email Rory with a potential solution. scottj

(after the DVR and the cameras) tips for an aspiring DIYer
scottj replied to za's topic in General Digital Discussion
Thats good that all is well. If you need anything, Rory, myself and others will be more than happy to lend a hand. scottj -
You can use the GV-Keyboard instead of the mouse and standard keyboard. It works very well and will not break the bank. In addition, it uses RS485 communication so the distance away from the main system can be a fairly good length.. scottj

(after the DVR and the cameras) tips for an aspiring DIYer

Craig, What questions do you have regarding the products you have? Maybe one of us can help you out. scottj -
Sensormatic Ultra IV PTZ. Works pretty good, but it is an expensive camera for the quality. scott
-
What capture board and software are you both using? Also, are your 4 cameras on the "working" home system color or also B/W? scott
-
should work on both with no problem. Then again, we need more information on what type of video capture device and software he is using in the PC. It also would be helpful if we know what the cameras are. scott
-
yeah it works real well. We use AutoCAD floorplans and sweeten it up a little. The E-Map option works very well for customers who have low upload bandwidth versus the multiview also.
-
No can do. GeoVision will require you to buy a complete new board assembly, as it is a great marketing method they use to keep the cash flowing. You are correct that the board "could" be upgraded if you were able to get your hands on the chips and BNC extensions. UDP can provide the extensions, but GeoVision giving or even selling you the new chipset is not very likely. scottj

150 IR cams + 3 PTZ - is 3 computers enough ?
scottj replied to Integratek's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Not possible to add more than 16 channels per machine using the GV products. So with that said, you would need 10 computers (153 cameras/16 channels = 10 DVR's). Although the GV solution would work, it might not be the best solution for you particularly. scottj -
Geoff, 1.) Not too sure about your camera issue, it sounds like the AGC (Auto Gain Control) setting in the DVR software could use some adjustment, but then again it could just be cheap cameras. May just need to adjust the iris, some people use a little pen torch to make the iris open wide, then adjust the camera from there. 2.) Digital video quality looks different then your traditional analog VHS or "looped" system. I have seen only a couple systems on the market that offer relatively close quality video, both were extremely expensive. If you can tolerate the digital recorded quality but wish to improve the live display feed you can approach this a couple different ways. You could add the DSP real time display board which will enhance your displayed video. It does this by accelerating the display frame rate to 30 FPS per channel during live view, while the system still records at the 7.5 FPS per channel (GV-800 model). You could also add a lopp through board tot he sstem. This wil do notihng more than split the video off so you can send it off to an external monitor such as a TV, CCTV monitor, ect. Same concept as using a multiplexer. 2.) Color cameras outside work fine. I personally only use color cameras, no need to go back 20 years in technology. As for the Pelco Spectra III's, awesome camera. So are the Kalatel CyberDome PTZ cameras, and they both work very well with the Geo software. The Extreme cameras are great if you need IR or need coverage in specialty environment areas, basically all of these types of cameras are good quality so it really depends on your budget and what appeals to your liking. 3.) Toshiba SNR? Not familar with their products. 4.) A 784k upload bandwidth will work very well with the web based viewer. The issue with you not being able to set the resolution is because you have the web server configured to stream 720x480. In order to change this, go back to the main screen locally and reconfigure the WebCam Server. You will have the option in a dropdown to change the remote resolution. Change this to 320x24, or 640x480 De-Interlaced. Also I would recommend changing the bandwidth limit under the "RPB" tab to about 350k. If you do not set an upper limit, the system will attempt to use all available bandwidth from your service and cause network congestion which generally leads to packet loss and the router locking up. Just my recommendation. scottj

Obviously this whole ordeal is stressing and emotional for those that were directly affected livig there, as well as those throughout the country who have friends and family there. I have donated money as well as a vehicle to this ordeal which is very little but hopefully it will help someone. Even with that said, I f someone shot an AK-47 at me from a rooftop while I was trying to drop food to them, I would have turned away just as they did. scott.

which is really strange to me, as there can't be much of a market for a beat down hooker can there? I would think a hooker with no bruises and cuts would carry a higher street value. Maybe Data would know...haha scottj
