Any of the local Geo Distributors will have the GV-Loop card. If not, I can make a recommendation in private. Version 6.0 will not sync the audio with video. Version 6.1 and 7.0 has this feature. Although.....If you have experience with C++, you can edit the DLL files and modify the 6.0 version to include the changes made in 6.1 or 7.0. But that is a whole other bag of tricks. scottj

use a GV-loop card for less that 100 bucks in the geo system. this will eliminate the signal loss. http://www.geovision.com.tw/002/Accessories/GV-Loop.htm

I have had motherboards that just had grounding issues internally. Could be anything from a defective trace or a bad solder joint. I have also seen that "cheap" chassis's can cause poor grounding issues in other related problems. I would be surprised if it was the CPU causing all of the problems you mention. Typcially when a CPU experiences a failure, you will notice "lockups" and stability issues with the entire system integrity. A pentium is designed to allow for multiple gate failures without the user ever even noticing. I have even seen a p4 chip that was missing 16 pins work flawlessly. Hope this helps. Sorry to hear about your father, he will be in my families prayers. Scottj

sounds like a bad ground issue with the mainboard.

G22, what type of chipset are you using on the mainboard? We use Intel 865 series. Our CPU usage is 17% with a P4 2.8 800Mhz FSB. We use dual channel memory (2x256 PC3200), but make sure you use two channels or it will not HyperThread. Also we noticed that if you place the GV board in PCI slot#1, the performance is far worse. Some mainboards share the same IRQ as the AGP slot, thus results in bandwidth congestion across the bus. scottj

I would assign the DVR a Static IP address regardless of whether you are using DHCP in the router or not. Some routers have a Static DHCP section that you can choose to use if you wish, but I would personally stick to just assigning the machine the IP under the Network Properties pages. This will save you some headache. scottj

A P4 3.4 is overkill. Save your cash and use a 2.8 P4 at best.

Send me your email CCTVINSTALLER and I will send you a few screenshots of the preliminary GUI

Horizontal Lines in Video

You don't use Geovision cards? Which do you use? Herm is "slightly" biased when it comes to DVR boards and software, then again he deals that I-View stuff. Can't blame a guy for plugging his products. scottj -
Do what Data suggest, it will be painless and fairly effective. We use portable USB/Firewire drives with built-in backup software here and they work OK. I actually prefer Data's method, but the portable drives make it a no brainer for new employees and keeps procedures consistent. scottj

I like Rory's idea, or you could use the GV-Loop board (very inexpensive) in conjunction with a quad that supports dual monitors (or multiplex depending on how many viewable channels you require on each monitor.) If you just use a "T" connector with the system, you will ahve degraded video quality unless you amplify it. But you probably already knew this. scottj

Horizontal Lines in Video

cost savings? So in other words you saved about 3 bucks, and now you have to eliminate problems...hmmmmm Sounds like you get what you pay for here. scottj -
Intellicam supplies the Accudomes to WorldEyeCam. Actually the li ACD-200DN dome model has been used by some of our customers who swear by it. Its cheap too. I have seen the quality and I have to say it is not too bad. Im not big on 12V cameras but at that price it is a decent camera for a smal retail store that likes domes. scottj

Are you using a cheap CMOS camera? scottj -
I think that means "Beef with Brocolli" in English.

Questions about H.264
scottj replied to pingsquare's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
ABout the boards compression...I doubt you would even notice a quality difference unless you use top of the line cameras. The compression algorithm in this case will mostly affect the storage capacity as the primary feature. In response to question number 2....... An explanation in broad terms and not getting to technical CIF means Common Image Format. If we look at the best resolution a CIF can produce you start to see the loss of resolution proportionately. An example of resolution in the various formats is as follows: D1 Resolution H480 X V330, CIF 4 Resolution 480H X V330, 2 CIF Resolution 480H X V162, CIF Resolution H240 X V162, QCIF Resolution H20 X V80. Please note the horizontal resolution remains high but the vertical resolution decreases by a factor of two (2). The D1 format is presently the best you can achieve. HDTV technology will challenge this quality in the near future. The total number of pixels drops dramatically and effects computer power, memory and bandwidth to compress, store and transmit. Be careful not to assume the image will be two, three or four times better or worse. The human eye will notice the difference but technically it is not a cut and dry equation. If you compare the Digital Recorder specification and then compare them to the CCD camera specification you will notice a 500-pixel camera are specified at about 330 lines of horizontal resolution and the 720 pixel-camera produces approximately 480 of horizontal resolution. The vertical resolution on all cameras is the same since they all have 484 active raster lines in NTSC format, which yields approximately 320 lines vertically. scottj -
you can control the keyboard lcok fundtions using the registry, regardless of whether or not it is I-View or any other manufacturers board. Here is a link for reference: http://www.winguides.com/registry/http:// scottj

Pcik me up a couple of those Chinese women, my Korean one is wearing on my last nerve. haha -
B-Tron power supplies, or Preferred Power brand. Same quality as the Altronix and Pelco (actually more headroom), and a fraction of the cost. Just a plug for some friends that work in the power industry. scottj

Who Makes A Good Color Infrared Outdoor PTZ Camera?
scottj replied to GAtkins's topic in Security Cameras
Yeah I love these cameras, we have an installation that used 67 of these (large Arena). Awesome picture quality. Expensive yes. But I have to watch those Union guys doing work near my property to make sure they dont't steal anything (haha, gotcha Dataave). Scottj
