Who Makes A Good Color Infrared Outdoor PTZ Camera?
scottj replied to GAtkins's topic in Security Cameras
Pelco Spectra III cameras are very nice, I will be switching out the CyberDomes on my house this weekend with 6 new Spectras. Highly recommend them if the budget permits. -
I would use the Motorola Canopy system. it may costs a few bucks, but allows for a great wirless system, especially when you use good pTZ cameras and need the controls
-
What is your budget for this project? You could build a wideband VLAN if the budget permits, it is also utilizes encryption (not bandwidth degrading WEP either). Slightly more expensive than the Videocomm stuff, but much more professional grade and allows for more camera deployments throughout the complex at a later time thus resulting in more business for you. scottj

Im still confused why your boss has access to your bedroom? Interesting. I can't say that when I worked for someone else I ever let them in my house, let alone my bedroom..haha Sick thought really. scottj

Dual monitor output - Geovision software
scottj replied to Secret Lemonade Drinker's topic in Geovision
You have to disable the DirectDraw overlay function under the "General" configuration tab. With this enabled, all you will get is pink screen where there would normally be video displayed. You may even with to change the screen resolution to 800x600, depending on your VGA setup and type. scottj -
CX25874/5 Video Encoder with HD support....

The hardware supports the higher resolution. It always has, but they never designed the software to support the hardware was the real issue.

one of our customers had their lock box w/DVR inside stolen from the building after they grabbed a safe and POS cash drawer...The best thing is that we were using a DDNS Management service and the DVR had been online before, so about 6 days after it was stolen, we pinged the system and found that it had updated the IP address after it was stolen. We ran a tracert and determined "whois" and gave the IP address to the investigators. They contacted the ISP and got the physical address of the machine. BUSTED..Now how bad would that suck to be the guy that did that? HAHA We still laugh over that. Turns out that when the police went to his residence, he was using the safe as a computer stand for the DVR, and had it connected to the internet so he could chat......Some people... Well if he was looking for love online, he no longer needs to worry about that. He is going to get the best rear entry lovin he has ever experienced while he sits in jail...haha scottj -

Rory, if you can sell those for 2k all day long, I can send those down to you daily. scottj -
And Microsoft has already announced that they will not be supplying their distributors with 2000 any longer. They have already begun pulling the plug to updates and by the end of this year will no longer support it. XP is the best way to go if you are using MS OS, unless you have an extremely large deployment then use 2003 server and you have some great options to toss on the network. scottj

Why don't you guys just spend a few extra dollars and get something worth using besides "knock-off" boards? I myself would rather pay a few hundred dollars extra to keep from having to piece together (i.e. software, board, etc.). My time is more valuable then trying to hunt down software that works with a board bought on Scambay. People that spend 20 bucks on a cheap DVR board obviously do not value what they are attempting to protect and monitor. scottj

Power Button

do what rory sais, then enable Power On feature in the BIOS if power is lost and the machine will then startup again. Now you may have to do some tweaking if you use a UPS that utilizes software contolled shutdown procedures, etc. scottj -
need alarm's with my DVR
scottj replied to MamBo's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
you need an Alarm I/O board for Kodicom boards. I may have one from 7 years ago when they were considered "decent" technology if you need. scottj -
Lenel is good quality equipment, pricey but very good. My understanding is that they are a little more configuration intensive than most, but the results are positive. scottj

Oh I agree Thomas. A less than 5 minute hack and the dongle is no longer an issue. It really is rather silly.
-
GSS, what is your configuration for your system? The reason I ask, is that various chipsets on the mainboard as well as the types of VGA boards make a huge difference. The list that Geo sugest is bogus, they have little knowledge of the actual chipsets, I think they just make things up as they go along to fil in blank space. We have tested about 30 different board scenerios and had different results each time. It may just be a latency issue that can be eliminated with changing one of your support components. scottj
-
There is still some debate of whether to use the S3 chip scenerio from my understanding, but I see it coming. But yes, the GUI is sharp in respect to other systems out there. Very professional and friendly to the eyes. scottj

Found this while searching for a new mobile DVR for my SUV. Anyone try one of these yet? Any feedback is appreciated. http://www.securtex.com/mobile_dvr.asp thanks, scottj

yeah it has some nice features, such as being able to tap into the brake lights etc. for recording. This thing could give an attorney some ammo for a who is "at fault" case if ever in an accident. Im going to see what the price is and I will post it in the dealer section tomorrow. scottj

it could happen...Data would set you up a straw bed to sleep on..haha

Data makes a valid point here regarding the ILLEGAL crossings. First of all, there is no such thing as an "Illegal Immigrant". Where that term came from is beyond me, probably the Clinton administration. You are either an ILLEGAL ALIEN or you are an immigrant (legal). This I can agree with. Anyways, back to CCTV talk.....How about you guys tell me what features you want to see in a PC based DVR software package? I have 4 full-time (non-union) developers that are growing impatient and need some challenging work so i can justify those pricey salaries and benefits. scottj
