Yes, however it is performed on the board, not having to be activated via the Geo software function. The grayed out button is because the combo board drivers/library do not call for the AGC to be active via software. If you set a GV-800 system and a GV-1240 system up at the same time using the same cameras, you will notice that the combo system will already be baseline adjusted compared to the GV-800 (or other version using AGC). This has caused confusion to many others out there, so you are not alone in asking about this issue. The main problem here currently is that when Geo released the combo board, they should have modified the software to accomodate it better and removed that control. Scottj

I understand the reason for AGC, but the combo boards use a Techwell chipset and an Altera Bridge chip that has the capability of making this adjustment for you internally, so there is no need to have that option to perform a manual "Auto AGC" adjustment. Scottj

10 THINGS U USE UR SURV. SYST. 4 OTHER THAN "SECRTY''
scottj replied to jisaac's topic in General Digital Discussion
One of our clients sent us some video of a camera outside their building watching a parking lot. Almost 20 feet away you see a black guy throw a big rock at a side window of a car (trying to smash the glass), but the rock which was about the size of a softball bounced off the glass of this car and hit him in the face. He dropped to the ground and about 45 seconds later 2 security guards are out there picking him up off the ground. Turns out that the rock broke his nose and as the police and medics took him away, he was threatening to sue.....hilarious... Scottj -
What issue do you mean? The combo cards use a completely different chipset, thus AGC is not required. Scottj

Shunt the CMOS jumper and reset the board then start over with just the SATA drive. Should work fine. Scottj

Toshiba IK-WB02A

40MB is more than enough to stream 30 FPS per camera for 15 cameras through your LAN. I would be willing to say that 10MB is plenty. Scottj -
He has the V2 board Andy, we tried it here and it doesn't work. Scottj

www.digitalwatchguard.com Talk to Sal (forum member). They sell boards to end users at reasonable prices and are very good people. Scottj

You need the V3 board to update, even with the dongle. Scottj

Static IP necessary?
scottj replied to securitymonster's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Anyone that would pay 1000.00 for a static IP needs a CTSCAN. I disagree that a static IP is "unreliable" as you mention (not sure why you would think that?) over a Dynamic IP. Both accomplish the same exact thing.....a point to point connection regardless. If anything, with a Dynamic IP you are relying on a third party service, hardware, or software client to perform a redirect that adds another variable of potential failure into the equation. TZO is a decent service for DDNS management, many people in here will find your provided information very useful, thanks. Scottj -
Looking for DVR card with these features

Looks like most IR domes in my opinion. We have tried a dozen different types, all end up looking about the same regardless of the price. I have found that if you want IR in a dome, use the Extreme units such as the EX46LED mounted next to a high quality camera. Those just work. Scottj

connecting Geovision data capture to Ruby Supersystem POS
scottj replied to jalltec's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
You do not need the GV-Data Capture box to connect to a Ruby SSII. If you contact me via PM, I can fax you over the complete schematic to implement the systems and get you working fine. Scottj -
either operator error, or defective board. Then again, wiring is proably the issue. Scottj

If suppliers tested every single camera before they shipped them out to you, then you wouldn't buy it from them due to the price point. Adding people adds expense, adding expense means increasing margins, which means we eventually are no longer competitive. (especially when the average consumer/end user tries to get Ebay pricing as a comparison). Major label products fail just the same as OEM, makes no difference. You just have to take a chance and keep trying products till you find a nice "fit" from a quality and price standpoint. The only analytical way to find a product is if you were given the MTBF data on a product to do your own comparison, even that is sketchy at best. Think of your camera ordeal as a very inexpensive sample, it could have always been far worse. Scottj

Your choices are either DAS or NAS scenerios. The only things you can do to maximize your storage capacity is A.) Use a DVR with that utilizes a tighter kb/frame compression method, or B.) Add additional disk space whether it is DAS or NAS. Scottj

Geovision IR Remote Control Functionality - GV1240 System
scottj replied to smarty's topic in Geovision
Those buttons are just extras, however I believe one of my technicians was able to program a PTZ preset to them before but I would need to ask him (he is on vacation) to verify. Glad it all works for you now. Scottj -
Geovision IR Remote Control Functionality - GV1240 System
scottj replied to smarty's topic in Geovision
Those buttons should work as you described. If you installed the remote controller after the fact( Geo was already installed), then you have that type pf problem. Reinstall the Geo software and be sure to select that you want to add the IR Remote to startup and it takes care of the issue. Scottj -
You guys are talking about two different notification methods completely. What Smarty says does work, however it is not to be confused with SMS (Short Message Service). You are just using email notifications is all. These are different. For the attaching the image question when using the email notification to a cellular phone, just disable that feature. Scottj

The Geo won't allow you to add additional video inputs without swapping out the board. For what you want to do, I suggest getting a Kodicom system. Scottj

7.1 was delayed by Geo. The latest is that there will be an exchange program in order to use it (but then again that could change). Sit tight, it is eventually coming. Scottj
