  1. Hey guys, I have read several posts on the Intellicam DVR's and I am a little confused. Can someone tell me if the model JS=16RTA-D1 will: 1) play video in reverse, and 2) does it have 16 loop-outs that actually work on the back. Thanks in advance for any help. Glenn
  2. Hey all, I have been a regular lurker and sometimes contributor on these forums for a few years. I have a four camera system installed on the exterior of my house that I did myself. I have had a couple of these cameras or their close cousins go out on me and I am looking for better quality replacements. http://www.specotech.com/cart/products/productDetails.asp?prodID=789 I have tried to keep up with the camera recommendations, but there just seems to be too many variables to make a good decision. Could someone please help me by suggesting an approprite replacement? Thanks in advance for any and all help. Glenn

    Simultaneous Multi-Channel Recording

I think the way to do it would be to set all cameras rolling, say three. Then click the clapboard or flash the flash or whatever. Then leave all three cameras rolling for the entire length of the event. Import all three videos into a multi-track timeline in your NLE and then just sync to the first click or flash.. Doing it this way, you should only have to sync once at the very beginning of the event. Glenn

    Simultaneous Multi-Channel Recording

It would probably be easier to use multiple independent cameras in MiniDV/AVI format and some form of "clapboard" syncing. In the old days they would literally use a two boards clapped together to make a sound when all cameras were rolling, hence the term "clapboard." They could then sync the sound and thus multiple cameras together. More recently, I have heard of using something like the flash from a still camera when all video cameras were rolling to use as a sync point. Then in the timeline of a NLE like Adobe Premeier or the one of your choice, the flash could be used to sync the video/audio of each independent camera. Help with buying a good CCTV system

Here's what I have: 1 Intellicam JS-16RTA D1 (very nice) 3 Speco 7706DNV cameras (spendy, good in daylight) 1 Speco 7815DNV camera (more spendy, good in daylight) 4 Nuvico CB-SD21N-L cameras (great performance for the $, better at Night than the Speco's) 1 Intellicam G4-HPV540 camera (cheap $, but good for close range coverage) 1 Altronix R2416600ULCB rack mount power supply (very nice, but heavy) The Speco's are slightly better than the Nuvicos in the day and the Nuvicos are better than the Specos at night. The Speco's are twice the $$. The Intellicam camera was cheap, but works well in my application of close range coverage of my front porch. I'm sure from the professional's point of view all this stuff is considered mid to low end, but it meets my needs perfectly. I wish I have a couple of PTZ's, but those are spendy. I installed it all myself. Once at one location and once at my current location. I agree with the others, don't get the big box stuff. Not good. Enjoy. Glenn
  7. I have read many of the posts regarding power supplies, but I'm not much smarter for it. I think I have decided to go with an Altronix Rack Mount as the DVR is under my televison in the living room. I currently have three cameras at 24 volts and 40VA. One camera at 24 volts and 700mA. Four cameras at 24 volts and 1amp. One camera at 12volts and 450mA. My DVR is a 16 camera version. So assuming I have a total of nine cameras now, with 7 to go in the future with similar amps as above, it seems that either of the following two units would work for me. http://www.altronix.com/index.php?model_num=R2416600UL&pid=2 http://www.altronix.com/index.php?pid=2&model_num=R2416600ULCB The first one is fused and the second one is PTC. All the runs are probably under 100 feet (haven't measure exactly). I realize I would have to step down for the 12 volt camera at the camera end. Are these units what I need or would anyone recommend something else? Thanks in advance for any help. Glenn

    day/night camera

This is a nice camera but it is quite a bit more than your budget, probably in the $350 to $400 range. http://www.specotech.com/cart/products/productDetails.asp?prodID=789 Glenn

  12. Tried the search with no immediate luck. Are these reputable dealers to purchase cameras and such from? Thanks in advance for all input. Glenn
  13. Greetings all: I currently have a stand-alone DVR but I am looking to augment it with either of these two systems for more flexibility on remote viewing. Does anyone have any recommendations on which one of these is better and why? Compression method? Features etc.? Ease of use. I have looked at many of the threads and it's just hard to tell. Thanks in advance for any input. Glenn

    Provideo New DVR

I bought this as my first DVR about a month ago, having no experience in CCTV or networking whatsoever. Attached 3 (so far) CVC 7706DNV day/night/ir cameras to it. Looking for a good PTZ for slot #4. Did the entire installation myself with the help of a close friend. Also did the networking myself. This thing works like a charm. The only complaint I have with the installation is the slow speed when I am viewing the cameras remotely from my office. The speed is excruciatingly slow, but that is a function of my upload speeds from my home, having nothing to do with the DVR. I used tzo.com to get around the dynamic IP issue and have the whole installation, including my router and computer, on a battery backup system as well. Glenn
  17. Looking for suggestions for a camera of this type. Thanks in advance for any replies. Glenn
  18. The regular III's or the SE series? Which specific one are you going to use. Any IR light to go along with it.? Are the III's or the SE's IR sensitive? I think I want the SE Color/BW but I'm not sure. Thanks again everyone. Glenn
  19. Thanks for all the replys. Rory, which specific Pelco and would it work with the Speco DVR T4IP? Thanks Glenn
  20. Greetings, I have a Speco DVR-T4IP with three Speco CVC-7706DNV Color IR Day/Night Bullets attached with RG59 siamese cable. Each cable run is no more than 60' for so. Only sometimes, but always randomly, one, two or all three camera pictures will have a lot of flicker and motion. Other times they are perfectly stable and provide an excellent picture. This happens day or night in all kinds of weather/humidity/temperature conditions. It seems to be truly random. Any suggestions on what might be causing this and any ways to fix it? By the way, those cameras are great at night. Thanks in advance for any and all help. Glenn

New: Provideo Dome with External IR

I'm told late June. Apparently they are available in white too, so the look of that one may actually be the dark gray and just a bad picture, but I'm not sure. Glenn
  22. I am new to all this CCTV stuff but am curious where is the most reliable place with good prices to buy Kalatel DVR's, or any other brand that you would recommend. What is the top 3 to 5 brands and where are good places to purchase them? I have done some research on this forum and other places, but it is really confusing for a beginner. Thanks in advance for all replies. This forum is really great. GAtkins
