DigiFlower Demo Site
Marcusl replied to Tom the Handyman's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
What I said mostly applied to the uninstalling/installing of software, that is what I find a waste of time. These are the main tweaks that seem to work the best for improving system performance that I have found. After I get a base system the way I want it, I ghost it and make sure I buy the same systems over and over and install the base image and add anything i need to from there and use a key changer to update the product key. Is there anything else that should be added? We should make a thread for all this instead of tacking it onto the end of this thread. -Marcus -

This method is easy and effictive. It is a quick fix instead of spending a lot of time doing a lot of tweaks that no one will know about or wasting your time by uninstalling IE. I had to put a public IP on a dvr and the customer wasn't willing to spring for even a cheapy router for it(but they will spend a buttload on cameras), so I did this and never had a problem. -Marcus -

Why don't you secure your XP dvr's by only allowing the ports open that the dvr needs to function in the TCP/IP filtering options in the network config? Like this: So for whatever card you use, just open the ports for what you need... that way it will also stop the customer from screwing it up themselves by surfing the web on it also... That way this stops the spread of a lot of worms & viruses too. You are only opening yourself up for what you need instead of the world. -Marcus -

No offense taken, but to take a product which you think is like something else and say that sucks is kind of strange... I have used the digicon fittings and they are very good. We have not had any problems of the semiconductor not going in the tip and the digicon fittings we have are rated up to quadshield, so no issues on some of the jackets being thicker or thinner. Maybe these liberty cable fittings are a knockoff of the digicon ones, or maybe their center conductor is not stiff enough. There is a lot of different cable styles out there, some have really soft center conductors, other higher quality ones have fairly stiff ones... The cable companies here use nothing but digicon fittings and commscope branded cable. I am not sure what brand of wire we are currently using, we buy siamese wire from our local Graybar store and it's center conductor wire is very stiff and have had no issues with it at all with the digicon fittings. I can't vouch for liberty cable products, but I can for the digicon ones as I have used them personally and don't see anywhere near the issues we had from our hex crimp fittings. -
Dual monitor output - Geovision software
Marcusl replied to Secret Lemonade Drinker's topic in Geovision
what version of the nvidia drivers are you using? directx? are you using the ones put in xp, the ones from windows update, the ones from nvida.com, the ones from the card manufacturer? I think sometimes the latest and greatest drivers are not always the best for certain applications or sometimes they are the cure for your woes. Do you know what rev of the driver and direct x you were using under 2k3? I would start there and see if you can get drivers with the same version number... you should also do dxdiag and check all the test results and info in there... it may shed some light on the issue -
Dual monitor output - Geovision software

If it can run other things on it, it may have to do with the geovision board itself, since the cameras are not an output of the actual Nvidia video card(they are an output of the geo board), it's tv out option might not work for this application. Does the geovision board itself have an rca or bnc plug for monitor out? I have seen the kodicom boards have this and it just cycles through the cameras and you can set how long it stays on each one like 3 seconds or something. Not sure if geo works the same way, but it's worth a shot. -

It may be a resolution problem, are you able to change resolutions on your computer to something lower, sometimes televisions have issues with resolution from a computer... I remember a long time ago I had a ATI all in wonder and it sucked on anything but 800x600 or smaller for the tv out... I was trying to make something to play divx movies on my television. I had a similiar issue to what you are referring with the pink slabs on the video portion when playing divx movies... You may want to play with resolutions, but I don't know what resolution geovision needs to function properly. The only other thing we have done that was actually really cool was using a 42 inch plasma television with DVI inputs as the computer monitor, so you just change source and then your dvr is on your tv screen. The DVR just lived in his entertainment cabinet by the rest of his AV stuff. It was one of the coolest things I had ever seen. What kind of tv are you trying to put it out to? Something old or something like a plasma or lcd? -Marcus -

Snap-N-Seal fittings are pretty neat... In another life I was a cable modem installer and we always used snap-n-seal. Digicon snapnseal fittings are the shiznit, I have had the least problem with those. They can be expensive, but service calls cost more. The crimpers we bought for our install/service techs were these... http://www.mccartenco.com/products/wandc/index-1862_1704.html The fittings we get are Digicon BNC connectors we just order them from one of our local electrical supply stores. Here is a pdf that shows what the connectors look like about 3/4 of the way down the first page. http://www.arrisi.com/product_catalog/_docs/_specsheet/DigCntrs_Generic_T.pdf These are the best fittings we have come across so far, better than any twist on, or crimp. True compression is the way to go... -

I was wondering if anyone knows where to get manuals for Sony Time Lapse VCRs. I need to look up an error code and can't seem to find the manual for the particular model in question. I need a manual for an SVT-3050 to look up error code ERO125. If anyone can help it would be appreciated. I have searched a bit on the internet and can't seem to find much except other products that are compatible with that vcr so it returns results for the SVT-3050. If anyone knows maybe if Sony has a different website for their cctv products, as I didn't find anything by searching from their main site. -Marcus Through one of my companies' video suppliers I got a phone number for Sony's Security products support. 18008836817 and they emailed me the manual I needed, but just in case someone needs this kind of info again, there is the number for it! BTW the manual just says for all error codes that there is a problem with your unit and to please contact your sony dealer.

Going to China next month....
Marcusl replied to Marcusl's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
I know a lot of the higher quality knockoff stuff is up in Shenzhen area as that is where the factories that make a lot of it is, even the pirated dvr boards as I believe. I don't think I will be able to go up there though as my visa to get into mainland China is a single pass. And the HK leg of the trip is last part of my trip and I think you have to show the visa to get on the train to Shenzhen. So I am hoping to run on to some good crap in HK. I don't like fake sunglasses either, the lenses scratch too easy and I don't think they are up to par on the UV protection either... -
http://www.cantenna.com/ They have "professional" pringles can antennas... with little stands and everything...

In the Control Panel, under User Accounts -> Change the way users log on or off.... Is the "Use the Welcome screen" checked? I think when it adds that ASP account it auto enables that option and even if you remove it, it leaves that option enabled. Try unchecking it and see if that works. -Marcus

Thanks Data! Well according to that chart, the takeup reel doesn't operate. His VCR gets sent to the repair shop for some ungodly amount of money to fix, since the salesman can't get him to upgrade. LOL

Octar remote view
Marcusl replied to antdickens's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
I am sure I am not totally alone in saying this but, WTF kind of name is octar for a dvr? Sounds like the name of a creature on Star Trek or something... "Captain, the octar can only be defeated if you cut it's head off!" Anyway with that being said, I looked at their website and it wasn't much help... http://www.visimetrics.com/default.asp?n=7&s=support&sub=faq Here is a question from their FAQ: Q. How can I access my OCTAR to review recordings remotely? A. All machines with version 2.0 and above are remote access enabled. However, you still need a Remote Access Token for the laptop or Desktop you are using to access the systems. Do you have a manual for the unit? Do you know if they are just using some sort of rebadged software that people would know here? ie. Kodicom, Geovision... etc ? It looks like they have a user forum there, you may sign up for that if you can't get a manual anywhere else or something. -Marcus -
tools or software to PC Keyboard
Marcusl replied to simyf's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
I would use a USB keboard that way you can just take it off... Just make sure you disable the keyboard error from stopping the computer at bootup in the bios. I had a customer with a similar problem (dvr was unsecured with kids running around) and that is what we did on the dvr, just removed the USB keyboard and put it in a locking file cabinet. At a credit union, we put the whole computer case in a locking cabinet with the keyboard and just left the monitor and mouse out. I have seen cabinets with power supplies and fans for a few hundred dollars. This way is expensive but it works if you have to leave everything plugged in and just want to give access to a select few people. Besides, sometimes spending a little more upfront to do it right can save on service calls and headaches. -
Most of the time the DVR Software is made to be the only thing running on the PC, they aren't expecting you to use the PC for anything other than a DVR. Hence when you shutdown the software, it shuts off the PC. As well as it being set for a certain size of resolution on your monitor. I would suspect that resizing the anykeeper software may not be possible if you can't do it by default.

Help on changing logos or skins on Geovision
Marcusl replied to Potlvr420's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
You should put it on a website instead of emailing it to everyone or have someone here put it on theirs, that way anyone who wants it can get it and you don't have to mail 20+ people. -
The site software is for the server/recorder/live view... the center is the remote viewer... -Marcus

What kinda card is this?
Marcusl replied to mikeee's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Looks like an anykeeper board, or possibly a chinese knockoff... I emailed that dealer and asked and he said he was an oem dealer for the manufacturer.... I emailed anykeeper and never got a response, so I am not sure. If you look around through some of the other dvr auctions of people selling dvr cards they will have screenshots like his and one of the front which is the anykeeper software... do a search on here for anykeeper and read up on it -Marcus -
I haven't used them yet, but intend to try them soon... so I would say yes those are very good qaulity boards... BUT The problem with this seller is what they were talking about earlier... he is selling them with a low markup and basically screwing the other people who sell these boards and the manufacturer... because when they do that it drops the market value of the product dramatically... if you are interested in the iview boards talk to hermin as he is a dealer... -Marcus
-
looks like one of the knockoff kodicom boards, probably a fake kmc-8800... you may want to email them and ask if they have screenshots of the software you could look at to know for sure... if it is a knockoff, there is a chance it won't work with any other software than what it comes with... so probably no upgrades... or it may not even work with the software it comes with... if you do a search on the forums for kodicom, you will probably come up with several threads where people bought this kind of board off of ebay and have issues with it working properly... so buyer beware...

Here is the anykeeper site, unfortunately there is nothing helpful under the "Supports" section.... lol http://www.anykeeper.com/en/e/

On your dvr computer, while the dvr software is running, open a command prompt and type in "netstat -a" that will tell you all the ports in use on your system. You can then write them down in a list and see what else you may need to port forward to your dvr pc. -Marcus
