Unless Geovision is a using a single threaded encoder (which would be extremely odd), it should benfit from multiple cores. For applications to benfit from multi-core technology you need a multi-threaded application. Those are moderately rare, but almost all video encoders should be multi-threaded.Geovision support claims they USE all 4 cores for H.264 V2 encoding, it's just you need to enable this advanced feature for each camera.

The literature says that 8.2 supports recording resolution of D1(720x480). Does this mean that I won't be able to take advantage of a 1Mb cam that records at 1280x1024, or a 2Mb at 1600x1200?Geovision supports full mpix resolutions. That's verified.
-
Geovision Support says GV250 will not work with IP cameras.... Is that true, can any of you guys verify this?
PS. I know GV250 is obsolete, but hundreds of customers bought them thinking they will get IP cameras support in future...

Like Rory, am building a system right now and was planning on using the 480 PCI Express instead of standard PCI in hopes of better frame rates, but now I guess I'll have to reconsider. Hmmm, does the 2008 card do 640x480 (not the de-interlaced) at 30fps?With GV-2008 you cannot choose resolution 640x480, only 720x576 PAL D1 or 720x480 NTSC D1.
GV-2008 card does 400 fps at D1. It's really like DVD quality.
-
I think Rory is betting that he will also get better framerates with the pci express card because of fater data transfer rates. Avermedia's PCI express cards do D1 at 480fps with software compression so it would make sense that the GV-1480 PCI Express could do close.Unfortunately, GV-1480 PCI-Ex includes only PCI-PCIEx bridge, other components are the same. We have tested PCI-Ex - performance is the same as PCI, which is 480 fps CIF, ~200 fps D1.
GV-2008 rocks, but it needs lots of HDD space.

OK, I finally have run into this problem too. Cleaned registry, deleted all Geovision files, ran CCleaner and logged in as Admin. When I run 8.1.2 installation nothing happens. I'm not sure if the "passdll" fix is applicable to this.
Any ideas?
Email me for a solution.

Hello, I bought a GV1480, and now im trying to view different cameras in each monitor. How is the best option to do that?. An example is that I want to view 8 cameras in one monitor and 8 in the other, both at full screen. Thanks in advance!!!
Install MultiView to connect to localhost (Geo Web Server).
Run DMPos.exe from C:\GVxxx folder and setup Multicam on the monitor1 and Multiview on monitor2. Then run Multicam (C:\GVxxx\GVxxx.exe, should appear on monitor1), make sure Web Server is running too. Run MultiView (should appear on monitor2) and connect to localhost.
2nd option is to buy GV-Combo card and connect CCTV monitor to a TV-OUT DVR card connector.

Yes I have their SDK ... its not new though, its a mixture of 6-7.0 and 8.0. Dont really need support as everything is explained .. I spent months though in the beginning figuring out what everything was as I didnt have the SDK package, just the activeX .. now a couple things I didnt know or just could not get to work .. like maybe only 0.001%, it makes sense, since they are reserved and dont actually do anything.Rory, is there any way to view GeoWebServer video streams or snapshots without using ActiveX. I mean things like JScript, VBS, ASP, PHP to make it more accesible for public.

With the Geo Video server, you can add two cameras. Does it have a cat5 on the back, and two USB? Couldn't see the back in pictures. If so, you still have to run cat5 to the network or add a USB wireless adapter. Does any USB adapter work?
Also if using this standalone, you could add a USB HDD for storage? And even use this by itself as it has a web server built-in?
What am I misreading here?
Hi!
Yes the GV WEB SERVER has 1 Cat5/LAN/WAN port for networking.
It also have 2 USB ports, but if it will work with wireless USB adapters I am not sure, but think so -just a config challenge I think.
Yes it is made for having a external USB HDD for local storage, the HDD must be formated to LINUX so you can not just use it with for instance Windows. In other words the USB HDD will be "locked" to the GV WEB SERVER or another Linux system.
JD
It's not locked. Geovision recommends using Ext2IFS for Windows: http://www.fs-driver.org/ and it really works, but you need to hit "Remove" button before disconnecting USB HDD from video server.
Otherwise it will dismount improperly.

how did yall break the cards?About 10% of cards imported to Poland are broken out of the box. We are sending them back to Taiwan for RMA service.
-
Acti and Arecont would be great additions to that list.... at least for meI'm sure they will eventually add more.. hopefully
Come on guys, just send them your opinion to support@geovision.com.tw - the more people ask for ACTi support, the higher chance we get it. I asked them twice - no result.
-
has anyone ever had a normal screen shot of all the cameras and the all the sudden they all turn black, you can see the tag turning red to signal recording on every camera but the all are completely black except for the name of the camera.I've seen it many times when the card was broken. Try to replace it.

probably just be Acti .. Taiwanese ..Nope, I asked them to support ACTi cameras - they rejected.
They will support Axis, IQinVision, Sony, Mobotix, Panasonic. Here is the list of beta tested models:

Hi thereCool forum, lots of interesting stuff! Ive just taken over the running of an IT department and we have the GeoVision 800 hard/software there, so a friend pointed me in the direction of this place!
Are you from Poland?

You ask "what client program is best". Control Center is the best of all, but it costs additional money. If you don't want to spend money, use RemoteViewLog (8.1 or newer version), but it's unable to playback videos from many DVRs at the same time. You can install it for free by connecting to Geo Web server with internet browser and when installed, you can use it to connect and playback videos from one DVR at a time (connection dialog appears at RemoteViewLog's startup).
Also keep in mind you can create "virtual servers" with MultiView - meaning you can pick and choose different cameras from the five servers and combine them into a single "virtual server".
Both MultiView and Center V2 are nice for viewing live cameras from different servers, but neither of them give you much flexibility for playback.
Yes, but I thought "playback" means play recorded videos, not live view... Am I wrong?

Some add-on of some sort?[/img]
Looks like a usual audio extension delivered with all Combo D-Type cards.

I have five gv-1480 on 1000Mbit lan and two client pc.What client program is best to liveview cameras from all five dvr? (Don't need to see all 80 cameras live just some one)
And what client program is best to viewlog from all dvr's?
Multiview or Center V2 or Remote Play Back or Control Center or something diferent?

Does anyone know how to use the MultiView or remote playback with a Vista machine? My laptop is Vista and I can't load the MultiView onto it. It works from every XP machine I've tryed, just not Vista.Do you have v8.1.2.x version?

I ran into the same problem recently. No matter what I did I couldnt get the 8.11 version to install.I remembered this post and logged on as administrator, but it still wouldnt work. In fact, when I tried re-installing version 7.0.5 that was running fine on it, it wouldnt work either. I had to uninstall the software, delete the gv-650 directory and remove all geo*.* and gv*.* files from the system.
With the system "cleaned" I tried the 8.11 again. No dice.
After cleaning the system one more time I was able to install the original 7.0.5 disc.
I emailed geo tech support and they said they are aware of the problem and that it will be fixed in next version. They also gave me a patch file to fix it. I'll have to try it next week. For now they can keep running on 7.0.5
did you also clean the registry?
also see my removal tool in the sticky.
Rory
Many of my customers had this problem. I found that it can be solved by resetting Geovision password database in the registry.

I am in need of 8 channel 240fps. which one is better? running dell computer with 750gb drive and 1gb memory. I dont know anything about hardware compression, what does that mean, and if is better than y so?thanks
GV2008 is better in terms of CPU utilization (MPEG chipsets onboard), picture quality and video smoothness. It grabs 400 fps per channel in D1 resolution. GV1240 grabs only 100 fps in D1 resolution (200 fps in CIF).
GV1240 is better in terms of HDD space being used, but you can setup GV2008 to work exactly the same as GV1240, so basically... if you have money, buy GV2008.

Hii was wondering if that was possible as i already have a graphics card installed (geforce 7300gs) with two outputs but wasnt sure if i could restrict the amount of cameras to be viewed by the staff
Cheers
You can do that, just use Local account edit to setup permissions for WebCam (there is a checkbox for camera and audio channels). You can also prepare many different layouts of cameras by creating "multiple hosts" in MultiView.

Hi guysThanks for the info i do have another pc next to where i want to site the monitor which is used for the till and is also networked to the computer with the geo operating system but it runs on windows 98 so i am thinking it isnt capable of utilising for my purpose.
cheers
No need to use another computer. Replace your graphics card to support 2 monitors (for example, two connectors: VGA + DVI, costs 60-70 USD). Then use DMPos.exe program to setup Geovision system monitor layout: 1 monitor - Geovision main system, 2 monitor - Geovision MultiView network application connected to "localhost" address (local geo web server).

Thanks a lot. That info is very much appreciated.Looking at those results, if we are recording in 640X480 the best value will be the 1240 card (same frame rates as 1480, less cpu usage). It is really a shame Geo tries to hide this info from their customers.
It's kind of wierd that the 1120/1240/1480 are so structrually similar. My supplier told me the record in D1 at the same frame rates, but I'm not sure i believe him.
I'm also not sure about these values, however it's an offical info taken from Geo website some time ago and saved on my HDD.
It's not a shame, it's just pure marketing
Other CCTV producers go exactly the same way because of marketing reasons. Moreover, many CCTV producers don't make such performance tests at all... Fortunately Geovision made these tests and made documentation publicly available, but after some time they decided to hide it. I think you can ask for it now and they should give you direct answers about performance.

I only ever use motion recording so it's not really a problem. That new card sounds awesome, can't wait to see that. I hope it doesn't cost too much..... which it will.Do you have a copy of that brochure? How about those frame rates in NTSC?
It is for NTSC. I'll try to attach the JPEG file with fps rates (doing this for the first time). See attachement to this post.
GV2008 (x2) or GV1480

Should be around 20 days. GV-2008 capture around 1 GB per camera per hour.
