  1. If I was a betting man I would put some money down on system addressing on the Keyboard. Did you double check that?

Are you referring to the GV systems IDs? Yes, I've confirmed that all systems are running in different address, starting from id:01 ~ 8. If you are referring to something else, pls clarify...TY

Well, did you find out the cause? I'm dying to know what's going on in this case...

  2. well i found it on a forum that you frequent

Hardly need the FBI to find this out

No problem, it's just I was a bit suprised when I saw that every cctvforum I know has this info published straight in your eyes internal use only..... yeah right

  3. 1) Can I use just a regular computer and install a DVR card in it? Or is the hardware specialized hardware? Also, does all the needed software come with the DVR cards? (In general, looking at Geovision).

It's not easy to respond in few sentences. Maybe you can read some stuff and then we could talk about it more. These links may be helpful for you while choosing the right machine:

List of computers tested with Geovision cards

    http://www.polvision.com.pl/files.asp?lang=en&id=85

Which motherboards are recommended for Geovision systems?

    http://www.polvision.com.pl/faqs.asp?lang=en&id=60

Which graphic cards are compatible with MultiCam system?

    http://www.polvision.com.pl/faqs.asp?lang=en&id=50

You could also search this forum, people sometimes describe the Geovision DVR computers they've installed - which of them work fine and which don't.

Question for other guys: does MultiCam 7.1/8.0 support NVIDIA chipsets? I heard Geovision intends to support NVIDIA in 7.2 (8.1?).

  4. yeah, i know what your saying .

You could understand the new software compatibility problems on older cards,it will bring a lot of $$ for geo, this would force people to update who wanted to make use of the new software.

Surely if the combo cards arn't compatible this would be suicide for Geo!

Seemingly its ver 8.0 not 7.1, Scott where are you?

Yeah, but - from what I know - this 8.0 information was for INTERNAL USE ONLY.... If you guys immediately forward to public everything what Geo says, they are probably going to keep their mouth shout in future

  5. Yeah, the passuninstall will only work if you had the allow removal .... option checked. For the programmers out there remember that that value has to be written somewhere... Also, yeah I mean a windows reinstall.

I suppose we could find it out using REGMON and FILEMON from Sysinternals, but I haven't had enough time to look more thoroughly.

Currently I'm not aware of any possibility to reset the password when "Allow removing password" option is disabled.

For all people who have this "small" problem, I prepare such short article:

I cannot login to MultiCam system. What can I do?

    http://www.polvision.com.pl/faqs.asp?lang=en&id=58

And I will try to find out some other possibilities when I have more time.

  6. Hello,

Recently, I opened a cooperation with David Pan from Geovision, who is their regional representative for Central & Eastern Europe. David publishes monthly newsletters about video surveillance systems from general perspective and from Geovision's perspective. I think they are worth to spend a while reading, so I decided to regularly translate them into Polish for all my customers in Poland.

After second issue, I thought you guys also might be interested in these newsletters and I'm very curious of your opinions:

    1) Massive False Alarms Represent Poor Cost-Effectiveness in Security Systems

    http://www.polvision.com.pl/files.asp?lang=en&id=66

    2) Thieves from Inside

    http://www.polvision.com.pl/files.asp?lang=en&id=69

I must admit that currently in Central Europe these are very important security issues and I was wondering if the same problems and solutions apply to U.S. CCTV branch. I would appreciate your comments. Thanks.

  7. Why in the world would you do that??? Extra cost for no particular reason... P4 2.8 HT is the minimum... thats about it.

During my tests GV-1480 performance was much worse on Pentium 3.0 GHz with HT enabled. Task manager showed me that second (logical) CPU was working on 100% while first logical CPU was working on just 1-2%. It seems like Geovision software is not able to benefit from many CPUs so I decided to disable HT in my installation.

I hope to get a response from Geovision on that topic soon.

  8. Cat 5, and absolutely best baluns made and variety is NVT. Nothing but good results with these guys and a very informative web site.

    www.nvt.com

Agree, NVT products are really good, but most our clients in Poland find our products better and less expensive than NVT's If you are interested please visit http://www.polvision.com.pl. We've been selling our products in Poland for couple years with very good feedback and starting with IFSEC 2005 we plan to expand our business to foreign countries. So watch out NVT
