Non-Networkable Solution

Indeed you can, there are several video servers for this specific purpose. Some have 2 or 3 video inputs(rca) and also a couple of audio inputs, they dont need a pc to connect to as they have own o/s built in. All you need is a connection to a router/modem,power , connect the video,(could be monitor out on dvr) and your good to go -
Bought an external dome off ebay (minus the camera) for £55,had to do a little modding but the pelco fits in great. The pq is amazing on this camera,it shows the rest up.

I have bought a pelco DD5ac-x, can these be fitted externally with a housing, or are they specifically for indoor use?

My home system........Am I on the right track?

You got that right! Vic please dont skimp on the camera's , if you buy cheap you will buy twice! When i started out i was looking for the cheapest, its false economy, ive a loft full of crappy cams in a box. Read the threads , theres some excellent cams that wont break the bank -

CD R/W (DVD R/W) all that important?
bob the b replied to John_lin78's topic in Digital Video Recorders
These links are what the question is about, these are sub $1000 items and not ebay items. Most dvr's (budget) are low end machines with limited capabilities as far as the cdr is concerned, and this is my point. High end machines with a cdr should convert the media into a playable medium for that sort of money! -

Then what do you play the cd/dvd on? Dvr's normally have their own alogirithm in which you have to install software to play it, dont think the cop's would mess with that, and $5000 for a dvr with cdr,we all know you can pick them up for $800 inc a cdr. Not sure about a house without soffits though -

Metz has a good point, i disconnected my cdr and fitted another hard drive on the serial cable. By transferring the video through a lan you can burn the video to mpeg2 using nero, then it can be played on a dvd player. -
Could wire from the dvr trigger to a relay and then to the sounder.

Are they supposed to have sides on

Im just istalling a ptz cam to a stand alone dvr's com port, i have a 232/485 convertor. Its marked +12v gnd 485- 485+ Does this need a seperate 12v input marked +12 and gnd ,as well as the 485+&-, i assumed the power side would come from the cam?

rs-232/rs-485 convertor
bob the b replied to bob the b's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
Going to fit a pelco dme to add to the system, thinking of wiring together with previous ptz and giving it a different address. The pelco has rx +&- and tx +&-, which of these pair are used to the 232 convertor -

If you dont need recording, your cheapest option is a 4 channel processor, this will split it into a quad screen and just connect monitor out to a modulator and then into the tv system. There's processors now that give you a ir remote, it will scan, select camera full view and even give you picture in picture. -
Steve , if your starting from scratch a 1.7 g p4 will cope no problem, you can pick them up on ebay with a intel chipset mobo for under a £100. If your just going to use a dedicated pc for a Geo 600, keep your more powerful processors for other demands
