I want to buy a security camera right for me. Help!
jeromephone replied to ryanloklee's topic in Test Bench
send him down the road -
I do not know about other MFgs but Geovision has a central monitoring solution that lets you select cameras from many different servers and display them on a single matrix which can be changed as needed. It has been a while since I did this but I would check their website or your cameras mfg website.

Cat5e working fine at a distance 460ft. Uniview
jeromephone replied to smokingjoe's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
It is always best to use the standard 100 meter limits. The device you installed may work the next one might not. you should use some sort of midspan or poe extender to reach the 800 ft. I have worked on networks with legs which are out of speck and the device might work but you can have problems in other parts of the network that seem unrelated. We worked on a school network that had random problems and at first we thought it was a switch issue. we found a several legs that were way over the limit and when we corrected that the issues went away. I would look up the speks and try to stay withing the parameters that the TIAA people spent years and millions of dollars establishing. -
try plugging into the poe port with a short patch cord and see if it comes up then. It could be a bad port that is providing power but has some other data problem
-
check the cabl acheck to POE port to see if it is providing power. Swap a know good camera and see it it comes up on that port and cable run

Camera powering question (Redundancy)
jeromephone replied to thmaxxer's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
sometimes you just have to pay the price. POE switch and larger UPS sound like the way to go. If it is worth protecting spend the money rather than try to cobble something together. -
Best bulk Cat5e/Cat6 cable for indoor and some outdoor runs?
jeromephone replied to Kabigon's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Make sure you use solid copper cable and not CCA. if the cable is to be run outdoors it should be outdoor rated. If you do have outdoor weather exposure the direct bury will hold up just fine and I do not think the prices are much different. What you do want to avoid is having indoor rated cable exposed to the weather and UV as it could fail after a couple of years. -
Looking for a budget 1-2 camera starter system
jeromephone replied to VinnyVincent's topic in System Design
look into a couple of IP cameras with onboard storage you can get some that will take 64gig chips that way you can still view them from PC or phone without the need for a nvr. days of storage will vary depending on motion setting etc but if you have an incident you should be able to retrive it. -
Hikvision authorisation code
jeromephone replied to alexf40's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
many of the cameras have a hardware reset button. I have some clones but don't have a cross reference for you. on some of the domes there is a button on top of the board which can be reached by removing the dome. On the clones it will set everything back to factory default and then you will have to reprogram from there. -
IR Compatability (Visible vs Non-Visible)
jeromephone replied to SB_Jim's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
lighting up the area would most likely provide more security than the cameras do. a couple of motion detector lights could help also. -

Help/advice with config/choice of cameras [PICS included]
jeromephone replied to karansaraf's topic in System Design
can you get cables to all your locations? Your ideas look fine the best way to figure out what the picture is going to look like is get a laptop and a poe device, ladder, and plug in the camera hold it in about the right position and see what the picure looks like. If you are not getting the desired pic move the camera around until you get the best possible picture. -
Lost My Camera's IP - Help?
jeromephone replied to abrogard's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
use an app to find all the attached devices geovison has one for their products and many other mfgs do too. they should find any compatible device that is attached to the local network. when you find your camera make sure that the IP address is set to fixed or static not DHCP. -
What is 600v cat 6 needed for? Lightpoles?
jeromephone replied to Miguel_rod86's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
the cable that leaves the building to the post needs some kind of lightning protection on both ends. If you get a lightning strike it can travel up the cable into the building potentially killing someone or setting the building on fire. or taking out equipment. there are several mfgs of this type protection you would need devices that pass data and poe but trap higher voltages. I am not an electrician but I would contract one to be sure you are in compliance with local codes. -
What is 600v cat 6 needed for? Lightpoles?
jeromephone replied to Miguel_rod86's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
both the high voltage and cat6 cable should be run in their own conduit. and do you have entrance protection on the building where the nvr is located. if not you are in an electrical code violation (at least in our area) are the poles grounded and do you have lowvoltage lightening protection on the data wires running to the cameras. -

Signal quality problems- tried baluns, ground loop isolators
jeromephone replied to bmw1999m3's topic in System Design
well in addition to all the other things mentioned do you have your cables running near higher voltage ac lines. Have you figured out how much it has cost you to go back and redo this as opposed to doing it with the proper wire connectors and power supply? plus it still sounds like it is not correct. -
Problem vertical bar multi-color dvr
jeromephone replied to mouhssine123's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
disconnect all your cameras and hook up a single camera and see if you still have the problem. hook up a single camera with a short patch cord and a single power supply and see if you still have the problem. this will eliminate the power supply and or the wiring causing the problem. -

there are several cheap sysems on the market that use a doorbell camera combo attached to the outside of the house and a wirless receiver about the size of a cell phone that can be placed anywhere in the house. We got one for my mother in law that save a few pictures on an sd card. Several offshore mfgs have them for under 200.00

Hikvision DS2CD2032 loses IP reverts to factory setting
jeromephone replied to mwhitnell's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
do you have DHCP enabled on the camera and where are you getting your IP addresses from the NVR or from a router. once setup in most cases the camera should be set to static IP. -
Audio feedback on microphone from loudspeaker on IP system
jeromephone replied to jp123's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
the speaker will act as a microphone if it is pointed at the microphone. If you move the speaker or the mic it should eliminate the problem for instance have you ever been in a meeting room with overhead speakers and someone is speaking into a mic and you get that squeal. If the mic is moved a few feet away the feed back goes away as the speaker is too far away to act as a microphone. -

Is the quality of cabling for outdoor home system important?
jeromephone replied to Fish's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Cat 5/6 cable for sure and if it is going to be outdoors buy an outdoor rated cable. cat5E should only cost about 150.00 per thousand feet.
