dump the hardive. why put a suspect, used component in a brand new unit. -
Create specific CAT5e cable lengths (anyone have experience)
jeromephone replied to h20wakebum's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
You measure out what length you want then terminate on both ends either with plugs or jacks. Kind of how a building is wired with cat5/6 -

which camera is better from these 3?
jeromephone replied to imcool's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
147 bucks for a whole system that is less than a decent camera. I would stay away from all three. -
Do you have a VGA out on your DVR. Most TVs allow for a VGA input. IF you only have one output on your dvr you may need to use a vga splitter or hdmi splitter, depending on you dvr's video outputs

Router not assigning IP to Lorex camera
jeromephone replied to Numtacos's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Do you have the default IP for this camera? I would set my computer to the same scheme as the camera and see if you can then log in. for instance say your home network uses 10.1.1.1-254 and the default of you camera is 192.168.1.50 set your computer to something like 192.168.1.66 and use the same subnet usually 255.255.255.0 YOu should then be able to see the camera in your browser or remote access program and set it to a static IP on you network. -
New Bee Here...Need Help With Audio Question
jeromephone replied to ra5451's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
you may be better placing a microphone in a better location that where a camera is located. The best visual location and the best audio location may not be one and the same. ETS out of Texas has a several microphone system designed for use with DVRs etc. -
IP camera/nvr setup problem
jeromephone replied to triggertrevor's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
I do not know that particular NVR but some require that you activate or add the cameras in to see them and or record. Look in the setup menus -
More and more IP cameras are coming out with onboard storage on a chip 32 gig is the min we put in. WIth a app or remote program on a PC/or mac ,depending on how long you want to store video, you do not even need to use your NAS.

Lorex MCNB3153 WIRING DIAGRAM
jeromephone replied to SKYNAD's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
you need an encoder. That will take your signal from analog to IP several mfg make them. You might have to get a brand specific model. Depending on the cost of the encoder it may be cheaper to just replace the one analog camera -
Connecting 8 IP Cams thru a POE Switch and Separate NVR
jeromephone replied to chrisimmanuel's topic in System Design
Why not use one NVR and setup two accounts that would allow cameras one through 4 to be viewed by one user and another account that allowed viewing the others. That way you could use a client software on a pc for recorded viewing as well as live. Rights to be granted on NVR. -
Panic bar with electric release
jeromephone replied to captainvideo's topic in General Access Control Discussion
Most of the power latch retraction system we installed were setup to open when a card was presented from the outside. just pushing on the panic bar from the inside would release the door. This was a school environment where one could always get out from any door even if secured from the outside. Does this door have a bar the runs from the top to the bottem vertically to secure the door.? I would be sure to check the building codes where you are as if you go to a powered system you may have to upgrade everything to meet current ADA standards. Wiring in a remote release and door monitor system should be fairly straight forward. -
CCTV Quality and Best cost effective VMS
jeromephone replied to r_alagarsamy's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
my experience with avtech was zero tech support and would never use them. Test some geovision products as their 32 camera nvr is free and no license if you use their cameras. Not everyone likes geo but it is worth checking out. In my opinion check out the warranty, service and general reputation of the product and supplier is as important as the brand you finally choose. -
best ipcamera brand quality/price ?
jeromephone replied to derekz's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I have done a lot of geovision and like some of their models, of which they have a wide range. Free software is another nice feature. Having said that the cameras that we had the fewest problems with have been Axis. They are more money but we have had no problems and the picture quality is great. The problem is selling the customer on this solution. -
Camera system with quick on/off arming of record function
jeromephone replied to pappalangben's topic in System Design
I just started messing around with the Belkin wemo switch you can turn on an off a device plugged into a wall socket with a smart phone app. also works with amazon echo. runs on either cell network or wifi -
look into a PTZ camera you could probably get down to one or two cameras that way.

Network multiple access control systems
jeromephone replied to pjsquigley's topic in General Access Control Discussion
I am a little unclear do the buildings have internet now or would you have to install a router in each one. -
You can use a feed of approx 300 feet to an 8 port poe switch and then run another 300 feet to your devices that you want to power up. THe feed from the nvr area does not need to be POE.

URGENT: IP vs HD over analog for New Gas Station build
jeromephone replied to newbuild123's topic in System Design
I would go with cat 6 also and look into if by code in your area you need outdoor rated and or plenum rated cable. I know that there are specific requirements for fire blocking conduit from pump islands to main building. -
Does the camera have IRs ? if so check voltage at camera with IRs on

Hikvision camera's not working on switch, but work on router
jeromephone replied to boxphotographer's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Does your router have progtammable ports ? I do not know if their is even such a thing. Have you checked patch cables between the router and switch? Do you have a pc or other device that is working off a separate switch and have you tried plugging into that switch to see if it works then -

Installing cameras and cabling outdoors
jeromephone replied to stevenriz's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Not a problem until moisture or uv gets in the connector then you run the risk of ruining the camera as well. if possible at minimum I would wrap the connections with coax seal and or tape to at least get some weather protection. Ideally the outside camera would have no visible wires and all connections should be done inside the building. -
