Kind of general info Use the proper wire if using cat5 or six do not use cca. If coax get proper rated. check local and state electrical codes on installing outside cameras on pump islands. There are often regs on how the conduits must be firestopped etc. Use outdoor rated wire if anything is going to be exposed. Be aware that capturing license plates is a whole seperate operation often needing special cameras and software. Whatever equipment purchased be aware of warranty policys, returns, and repairs. Is the supplier going to be around in 6 months when the first problems begin to appear? Harddisk cacluators are just best guess type of things. get as much disk space as you can afford and you may still have to adjust frame rates and quality as experience dictates mobile viewing is usually a standard feature on most newer NVRs. If budget allows get a spare camera it seems whenever we did gas stations convience stores there was always an area that got overlooked on the initial install.

Video shadowing onto next channel.

Check for a ground loop which can affect more than one camera. disconnect the offending cameras one at a time and see if that clears up the problem. -
Is that a powered mic? Some microphones require power to work correctly with a DVR. I know that at least one mfg (Louroe) makes and interface for dvr/nvr

Cloud Backup for a NVR Beginner

Check out geovison they now have a line of cameras and a service that does off site storage. how much off site storage time do you need? If you use one of the services that stores video for a day or two that may be enough also motion detection will cut down the amount of storage you may need. -
look around at some of the online dealers you may be able to get a deal on something in your price range with a warranty and tech support dept. Just saw 8 channel without hd that also does TVI for 120.00 seems cheap enough.

Time Lapse with Live viewing
jeromephone replied to Think's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
we did a construction site a few years ago and used an analog camera and a pc in the construction trailer. The software had the ability to set capture rates and set a schedule basically it allowed us to only capture say one frame every ten seconds for ten hours a day and no capture at night and weekends. There is editing software that lets you cut frames and add music etc. The 6 month construction project was condensed to about 7 min. You should not consider this as a security project as there is a lot of down time. -
GeoVision Fisheyes - Which Mount?
jeromephone replied to Pr0t0c01's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
this may be a simplistic answer but if you can get a camera a lift and a laptop get up on a lift and see what image you get. We had a portable power source for the camera and set up lots of cameras this way. Charts and such give you a good idea but nothing beats actually seeing the image in the exact lighting conditions etc. -
Cabling Distances Confuses me alot
jeromephone replied to Subhakar's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
cat 5 and 6 should only be run for a max of 328 feet or approx 100 meters if your are using IP if you do end up using fiber I would run either a spare fiber or at least run multi pair fiber even if you do not terminate all the pairs you will have spares if the orginal fiber pair has a problem. -
my guess is a bad psu. a camera 24v ac power supply should not draw very much power at all look at your amp draw rating but I would guess that the draw is way less than a 15 amp breaker. Sounds like the breaker is doing its' job, protecting the house wiring.

the layout looks OK . You should look at the power requirements for each camera and see if the switch has enough power for each port to support them. Some switches have more wattage per port than others.

why do cameras stop working all of a sudden, little help?
jeromephone replied to wang_chung's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
you do test your cables ? You need to at least wire map the cable. Are you using solid copper cable? -
Hacking my Hikvision cams to do what I want

To Dary1733 You really went out of your way to answer the posters questions. That type of response is beyond what most people would do both in terms of time and knowledge shared. Nice job " title="Applause" /> -
pro guidelines for deciding what you need (beyond hardware)

right camera for the right location. look at video from various brands in various conditions and then make a choice. Auto tracking PTZ ? my experience with PTZ generally has been to have a couple of cameras cover a given area as the PTZ will be in the wrong position when needed. Has anyone had a auto tracking camera that worked as it was supposed to and if so what brand? -
hide a game camera and then you will have evidence that the people were in the area when it was closed. by the time you buy a fake ptz and get power to it you will probably exceed the cost of a game camera

IP Cam and Internet on one wire?
jeromephone replied to mdwise03's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
you can use one cable if you are powering the camera from the shop area. Plug the feed from the house into a switch then plug your camera and or shop pc into other ports. (POE switch if that is how you are powering your camera) -
Nocturne Mode Problem
jeromephone replied to logicrussh's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
that looks like the correct place to set day night but apparently your camera does not have any sensitivity settings. You don't want just color as you will lose the image at night try the black and white setting as that will give you the best resolution. Look at some video after a few nights and see having black and white during the day may be a trade off with this particular camera -
Nocturne Mode Problem

Generic Wiegand system forced open issue.
jeromephone replied to jrothwell's topic in General Access Control Discussion
In the software does it have an anti passback setting? If you had that activated for user b it could show an alarm as the system is looking for a card swipe outbound as well as inbound. Just something to look at. -
Nocturne Mode Problem
jeromephone replied to logicrussh's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
can you change the day night mode to a manual setting? Sometimes in auto mode the day night function will flip back and forth as the light level changes. -
Unifi Surveillance Camera Opinions
jeromephone replied to clayrogers's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I have the nvr and two cameras running at my house just for the heck of it. I wrote a review a while back on their forum and do not think I made any friends the points 1. as the poster said you are stuck with their product 2. cameras are on the low end of HD 3.nvr has no way to hook monitor directly into the device 4. cameras do not have on board storage they do have a slot but it is not functional their HD cameras are very costly for the specifications The stuff does seem pretty stable and the NVR interface is fairly easy to use I will not buy any more but I do like their other products APs etc -
No just get a multiple output power supply that is 110/main and 12 vdc (I am guessing that is what your cameras are rated at. the other most common would be 24vac output altronix makes several different ones
-
this looks like a 12v or 24vac setup not a poe setup Are you trying to use an analog camera with a POE switch. I am confused
