    Your opinion on PTZ choice.

the 12 mm will give you a smaller field of view which may be able to focus on the plate you won't see much difference in the 6 mm and the 4mm that you currently have
  2. what type of NVR? Make and model usually in the camera setup page it has an option to set the camera type as PTZ as the cameras will have different IPs that may be all you need also look on the camera docs to see what they say

    Install help (Running wiring)

You could drill from the inside to the soffit area on trick is to push a light chain with a string trough the hole then drill up from the soffit and use a coat hanger or such to hook the chain you may need to drill a little larger hole to be able to hook the chain from below good luck fishing depending on the type of soffit you also maybe able to use a magnet to grab the chain

    Can anyone suggest

buy something from a website or dealer where you can get tech support. there are plenty of cameras in the 100.00 range that will have a sd card slot and are outdoor rated. You will need to mount camera outside to get the best picture as reflection off window will be a problem

    6 nvr in wireless bridge

look at ubiquity they have some high capacity APs and backhaul units that may work compared to other mfgs usually quite less costly.
  6. http://aruljohn.com/mac.pl Is a link to tell you who mfg your dvr. If you google mac address you will find several articles that explain how this is supposed to be a unique code that only your device has and it is supposed to be hard coded into the device.
  7. I have an install where I need to get an IP camera on a wireless network. This is only a single camera and I have power where I am mounting the camera. I have a POE injector for power and It looks like I need something like a netgear extender to grab the wireless signal. I am not sure how there network is setup but the IT guy will help me next week. Does anyone know if other than cisco equipment will work with their wireless access points or do you think I have to go with their overpriced stuff.

    Using conduit to hide cables

If you can go into crawl spaces and or attic that is best. If you have to run outside of the house I would run it high as it will be harder to cut cables etc. If you think you may add another camera or device in an area run a spare cable.
  9. I think that your mac address is supplied by the MFG and is supposed to be only for that particular device.

    Cabling Recommendations

Menards and Lowes have tools and connectors
  11. the ubiquity nvr will only work with the ubiquity cameras I have one and it works ok but would not reccommend it as the ubiquity line of cameras is very limited and the nvr does not even have a video port to connect a monitor directly to it.
  12. Do you have any electrical supply stores in your area? this should be an item that is common, You may have to set up an account which you will want to do if you are going to be doing this work again.

    Push video

anyone used the avtech product or similiar. We have a potential customer who wants to view an empty house but does not need any long time recording. They would like notification when motion is detected. They have a broadband connection. I am figuring about 3 cameras with 32 gig chips. Most of the time they would just be doing a quick check on their smartphones to see that everything was OK with the home.

    Push video

Just an update on orginal post. I tried the avtech camera advertised as push video tried every gyration I know to get working no go and more importantly NO Support from Avtech. their eagle eyes product has a website and provides manuals but no real troublshooting info I am on a forum for the product but most of the posts are a couple of years old. bottem line I should have listened and went with a different product. at this point I would say Stay away
  15. sometimes general cable is less expensive but still good quality

    Installation Pan/Tilt CCTV

make sure your protocols are set on the dvr the same as the cameras do one at a time. a lot of ptzs use pelco p with a 9600 baud rate. look in your manuals as to how the ptzs need to be wired you may have the cables flip flopped at some point.

    Installation problem?

i like the altronix stuff and they have a wide variety. of sizes and voltages.
  18. their should be a specks on the camera docs that will tell you the wattage required that info and knowing what kind of voltage drop in your wire run will tell you what power supply you should need.

    Installation problem?

It could be a power problem when IRs kick on (if those cameras have IRs.) Use a standalone power supply and hook directly into a monitor if that is possible or remove all the other cameras from the dvr and see if the problem still is ongoing.
  20. are you talking about IP cameras for the 720p cameras if that is the case you would need a hybrid dvr that would allow both analog and IP

    CCTV encoders

the way I look at a balun is that it allows you to use a pair of wires to emulate a coax but it does not change the signal from analog to digital. you will still need the encoder if you want to use your analog cams

    Night cameras exposed by LEDS

I often ask the customer if he wants to prevent the incident or wants to "catch the perp" the usual answer is both but a visible camera may be more of a deterrent as the prospective perp does not know what the camera can actually see. Also if you mess around with cameras for a while you will find that getting footage that will actually id someone is extremely rare. I have an friend who is a judge that admits that the footage they get is often not good enough to be admitted in evidence. Your expert does not know what they are talking about as most cameras with IRs have the ability to shut them off and just use the day night function. this is done either with software or through physical setting on the camera.

    CCTV encoders

from what I can tell you would still need to convert analog to digital to be able to view over the networtk.

IP Camera has external mic port, so...?

check out how that port is supposed to work if the microphone requires power you may still need to run a seperate cable. Also the NVR may have a audio input other than sending audio over IP. You should try and get a manual for the camera.
