  1. check out ets microphones that are stand alone but may do the job the key is to get the proper interface from the microphone to the DVR/NVR

    ADI BURTEK

If you fill out an account app they do have a provision for CC only purchases I think you have to have a tax ID number. If you go to their website they have forms online.

    Local Record Only Cameras

You may have to setup a portable system using a laptop to access each camera I don't know if that would be a direct connect to a POE switch from the laptop or somehow get your connection to the laptop. Unless some money is spent this will be a real pain to have any benefit at all

    Local Record Only Cameras

There are several cameras that can record to a on board sd card. however how are you going to access this data? If you can plug all the cameras into a common POE switch you could plug your laptop in and get the video as needed. Storage on the camera will be somewhat limited but you should get several days if you use motion detection and the largest capacity sd card the camera will handle.
  5. I do not know what works with qsee but if you are going to try and get license plates you will need to look into either a special camera or special software. It is not easy to capture plates many have reflective surfaces, different color patterns and then there is the problem of angle of the camera, day and night light conditions. Many higher end mfgs make specific systems for plate capture. Probably higher end than Qsee.
  6. Other than a check against the payroll system we have never used an access control system for payroll. As the previous poster said there are different reporting and record keeping requirments for payroll than for access control. Most system use the same card but not the same software/hardware

    Outdoor with Sound?

you might want to go with a stand alone microphone as the camera placement is often not the best spot for the microphone. THere are a couple of companies who make microphone setups for feed into NVR/DVRS ETS has and weather resistant microphone and interface.

CCTV Over A Large Area...Please Help

They have several different frequency options so you are not stuck with 2.4 I have used engunis (spelling !) and they among several others have 900 mhz equipment. If you have to run wire I would look at running as much fiber as possible as it could be used for many different things.

CCTV Over A Large Area...Please Help

First check and see if their is any fiber installed as that would be the best type of backbone for this. If you have power everywhere you may have to go to wireless check out ubiquity as they have many different access points for various distances. If this is a first time install I would at least hire an outside consulant to design. Ideally get a contract for design/build. This will not be a cheap project.
  11. I have several phillips/brule ptz cameras installed at site and would like to control them via Geo using Pelco P or D I have found a converter Pelco TXB-B but that looks like it allows a Pelco camera to be controlled via the Phillips controller. I would like to feed the Phillips into a box convert it to P or D and control the cameras via Geovision.

    Protocol converters

who is the spammer from hdipv??? and why does he show up on all these posts. Thanks for the responses on this post but it was posted years ago and we just ended up replacing the camera with a then current production PTZ that had Pelco P and D.

    Tail Light Glare

Not knowing your exact setup I would look and see if the camera would allow you to block out areas where you do not want motion detection to trigger the recording it may be your area of interest so that may not work It may just be a matter of deleting video more often than you would like.
  14. put a camera in the guard station and don't have it show up on the matrix. We did this at one facility to record the interaction between the officers and visitors. We saw the public at its finest.

    PTZ camera powered by Cat5

    Agree
  16. Check your local code as well as NEC. If it were me I would mount on a box.
  17. If you are starting out new I would go IP with cat5/6 cable and POE. Top of the line Axis , etc If you are looking at a limited number of cameras most of the time the bundled free software will work fine. LP cams depending on location of camera lighting etc may require a special camera / software go to the major mfgs websites and see what they offer you can sometimes download trial versions to see how the interface would work. Geovision gives out the full software package.

    Power Supply Problem

check cable connections and reterminate the connectors on both ends of the cable check voltage at camera

Reliable CCTV brands from the east

look at some of the big suppliers and see what low cost brands they carry Graybar and ADI for instance have some pretty strict requirements for companies that sell through them.
  20. You don't have to terminate the unused fibers until they are needed a lot of times we only need a single pair and we will terminate two pair and leave the others saves the customer a little money and you still have spares avaliable if needed for another project.

    VGA extender over cat 5

use a powered vga splittter you can get one that is powered via usb for around 30.00 us vga externder via cat 5 also should be powered
  22. run at least 6 strand fiber you then have spares plus you could expand you other network. Cost it out we have installed a lot of armored fiber that was very inexpensive compared to intermediate switches.
  23. I would unhook all the cameras except one. then add them back in one at a time. checking voltage at camera end as you go. If you have a bad camera it can drag down the whole power supply whenver possible use an isolated power supply that is every out put is seperate from the others check out the altronix line. check all your connections both power and video. Is the power supply rated high enough to take the total load you are placing on it?
  24. If you can, not knowing the location of the cameras. I would install a switch to isolate the cameras on their own network and then use the NVR as sort of a router so the only bandwitdth would be the traffic from the NVR or server on the company network. This approach may be unnecessary with an up to date network.

    Advise appreciated! branching out

I was in the low voltage business for 14 years and we did phones cabling access and cameras. My advice is don't sell crap. You will lose some business to the low ball guys but you have to stand behind your product and service. Find good vendors and they will in the long run give you the best prices you are going to get when you factor in service, warranty and product in stock. Customer is not going to remember that you saved them 10.00 when they have to wait 6 months for a warranty repair. If bidding, know your costs and don.t try to work below them.
