Short video/power run question
jeromephone replied to mbmike101's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
normally i reccommend using cat 5/6 for future but for two analog cameras I would run rg59/2/18ga. for power if you don't plan on ever adding additional cameras you could get away with 2 cube ie wall wart power supplies they are under ten bucks each and should do the job. You would have to terminiate the ends with BNCs but their a many reliable methods to do this. -
Auto tracking I would forget. If you have areas you want really good coverage put in additonal fixed cameras.

Help to spec a 32ch ip system
jeromephone replied to is200se's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I would consider how much storage you are going to need and figure how you are going to deal with that. Also I would look at solutions that don't overtax the CPU as 32 cameras will put quite a load on a Pc or NVR. I would look at some of the higher end systems milestone. Avilion, Axis as these systems are designed for the larger installs. The cameras you choose may have less to do with your success that the software you use. Take into consideration the status of your network switches cable etc can they handle the additional traffic? -

How long can cat5 transmit power without issues?

Are you using POE? If you are using CCA you would be in code violation in most parts of the country. Look at the numerous posts about CCA on these forums as well as other internet resources. -
we always used an off the shelf POE switch (Netgear usually) that are rated at 48v and had no issues with AXIS

I'm going nuts.. Please help
jeromephone replied to naiefelyemeni's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
coax of cat5? first question needs to be answered. Are you getting paid for this install if so why would you make it so cobbled up? make individual runs for each camera and use correct wire form what little is posted I would at first make sure I have the proper seperate power wires for each camera. I know you can use a balun with cat5 and use the other pairs for power but I am not a big fan of that approach. -
USB Mouse Control at 120m

Are you looking for a KVM extender? that would have to be run over cat 5 but you should be able to get the distance you want. an KVM over IP would allow controls anywhere on your network. It may be worth the money to install the cat5 as that would give you a complete solution. -
If you can. run the cables on the inside look up on google various methods of fishing the walls. I would attach the cables to the floor joists to keep them from getting wet and generally being in the way.

camera purchase help
jeromephone replied to grege's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Just go to the various websites of the mfg and their speck sheets will tell you what cams have autofocus. for instance geovision has several pages of cameras with various features from motorized zoom varifocal etc. more features and bigger brand names will of course mean more money axis, panasonic etc -
I would take a know good camera and swap it with one of the blue ones. If it works it could be a surge damaged multiple cameras also see the next post in this forum as to how to check voltage at the camera. I also would check the voltage at the power supply for the good cameras vs the blue ones.

you could convert but you would need a pair of fibers to use an Ethernet connection.
-
you can buy housing with a wiper which may be cheaper. http://www.2bsecurity.com/cctv-camera-housings.html Note I know nothing about this company but this page shows some washers and wipers for camera housings.

How to know when someone cut the cable of my IP cameras?
jeromephone replied to benleow's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
I am sorry I don't know the name of the product, but there are programs that will PING an address and send an alert whenever it does not get a response. That could be used for any network device. -
Need help it's urgent
jeromephone replied to guitaristshobi's topic in General Access Control Discussion
Look at axis they have a 2 door POE system that would allow the 2nd reader. The solution you are looking for is one that requires a person to card out as well as in (or keypad) the software from most access systems keeps track of in and outs. If you were to use the axis it can power a door strike so you could eliminate seperate power supplies ALso the data base is in the unit so you can access the unit from anywhere on your network. -
If you go to the storage setup page there is a tab to add additional storage spaces so you might have storage 1 on hd 2 with storage 2 on hd 3 etc you have to assign cameras to each storage section.

I have a security camera but no idea what cable to use.
jeromephone replied to epic_legendz's topic in Security Cameras
looks like the center pin is missing as that is a male connector -
I would go IP with wired cat6 run spares if possible POE switch NVR or PC with software your choice. Buy from a US dealer that provides tech support even if you pay a little more up front you will be happier. Just look through these forums and see all those seeking advice about cameras purchased from overseas with no manuals and no warranty

Industrial Camera System for inside CNC Machining center
jeromephone replied to merrill's topic in System Design
We did an install at a polishing plant and the air was full of very fine metal dust and such. They installed air lines by every camera and either kept a constant stream of air on the surface (these were domes) or had a setup where they could give the camera a blast of air when needed I really do not know which method they ended up using. -
seems like the only time any dvr/nvr stuff should be in this section is if it relates to tying the access control and video systems together.

Check out some of the larger UPS mfg websites APC, Tripplite minute man etc they have all kinds of tools for run times and types to use for different kinds of equipment. We used a lot of tripp lite stuff over the years and had good results.
