  1. Do not know the spec on the microphone but would look into that. Many of the microphones we installed required 22 gauge 2 conductor shieled with drain wire. If outdoors then outdoor rated as well.

    Pelco dome cameras

did they come with a manual? I am not familiar with that camera but some are 24v ac or that is an option. What are you going to use for a controller?
  3. Brand names still carry some weight with the customer. If they have had a good experience with a certain mfg they will lean that way. Warrenty, quality components and support are all factors. I would rather sell an Axis camera than a no name who knows where it came from for a couple of reasons warranty, support and a quality product. I also would rather mark up a 500.00 camera than a 100.00 camera assuming the same per cent markup. Bottem line if you can't make money on it, you are wasting your time. What part of the market do you want to compete in?

Need Help With 4 channel DVR

You can buy a splitter to put 2 or more cameras on the same channel but like the other poster said you can buy an 8 channel dvr for around the same price.

IP Vs CVI/TVI whats the truth?

I like IP over Ethernet as more and more other devices are being run over cat 5E or 6. Newer standards for POE will probably allow for more wattage to allow for higher power to cameras and housings. IP and POE can be run over coax but adaptors can get expensive. One new construction we are seeing very little coax run any more and extra Cat cables run for expansion later on. On a recent library job the only coax run was the feed from the CATV vendor. When you run cat cable all the drops become universal as any IP device can be run from any location where coax is generally an one trick pony

    Ghosting

Might be a ground loop try isolated power supplies
  7. Low voltage may not be regulated for household but if the cable is not UL rated it might be a problem on a commercial job. I think you answered your question on the cca as replacing the cable seemed to correct the problem.
  8. we installed a speco system a couple of months ago that had 8 poe ports and a separate lan port. The cameras are on 192.168.1.20-28 and the nvr is on the common network call it 10.0.0.50 for example in order to get to the cameras you have to log into the nvr or access individual cameras from the nvr itself. I like to physically separate camera traffic from the larger network if possible.
  9. Are you sure it is a power issue or a ground loop issue. try taking the power off from on camera and see if it still has an image problem then repeat with the other. 12v on siameze should not be a problem as we have had multiple cables tie wrapped together near the dvr s with no problems.

    Home installation - Advice needed

congrats on planning for the future with wiring for Ethernet in all your rooms. I would make that 2 Ethernet connections per room as and leave some slack above the ceiling to allow for location changes. If you put a second drop in you can use it for phone or computer or anything else. I would go cat 6 solid copper cabling. With 2 drops per location you can split your network if necessary.
  11. a separate power wire say 16 /2 or 18/2 would cost you around 4.00 and you would have the power and signal completely separate. I would never use cca even for a short run and it is not even allowed by code in some areas. Solid copper with appropriate connectors is the way to go.

Issue with security camera acting crazy

Are you using video baluns and did you try and hook up the orginal camera on a different cable? I would probably change out the rj-45 plugs as they are cheap and connections are sometimes a problem.

1080 HD CCTV for 100 meter viewing.

Think through the license plate capture. It is not as simple as pointing a camera at and area and getting a good read. Is the car going to be moving? will there be reflection from the plate? how big an image are you trying to capture the whole car or just the plate? Do they use the reflective type plates there? In the US the plates all seem to have all kinds of graphics which make them harder to read. You may need some software/hardware specific to LPC.

Do wireless CCTV systems need wifi?

what about trail cameras. You would not get a live view but they could see the recorded video from when the animals are active. Pretty cheap and designed to be used outdoors. you would have to plug them into a pc or tablet to view but this would be a cheap solution. Look on any of the outdoor supplier's websites.
  15. I would look at something along the lines of milestone or any other system that offers a enterprise solution. You would pay a license fee but that or similar system would handle the number of cameras you now have as well as have the ability to add.

    Fiber Cable layout help

I guess I am looking at this wrong If you can run a pair to a POE switch, that had a fiber connection, would that not be able to cover multiple cameras if they are located is the same general 300 ft radius? So you would not need 16 converters etc???
  17. change the admin password or setup a new admin account. If this system logs time and user who is logged in you should be able to tell when the old admin account started/stopped. Not a bad idea to hide a camera with onboard storage SD card and have it record activity in the DVR area.

    Fiber Cable layout help

while jazzar's solution will work I question how costly it will be to make that may splices have you considered changing out the cameras to IP? By the time you pay for all the electronics to convert the analog cameras I wonder if you could switch out cameras to IP and run a pair of fibers to a POE switch

    Does anyone recommend this website?

If you are installers buy from a good local or national suppliers and pass the cost to the customer.

    RG59 VS RG6 (long run)

if you are using coax your problem may be moisture getting into the cable and once that happens it will wick through the braid and wreck the cable. I would look at running a underground or outdoor rated cable and you may end up running a separate power cable as I am not sure you can get the weather proof combo cable. If you do have to run a separate power cable I would look at going a little bigger as you may be getting some voltage drop. Even if you are running through conduit there is a good possibility that you have moisture in the conduit

    NVR/Network

A lot of the NVRs with built in poe put the cameras on a different subnet and the only traffic on the main network is from the NVR. This is how you want to set this up if you have more than a couple of cameras so your NVR has 8 poe ports and a separate port for connection to the network camera traffic goes to the NVR but only the NVR is sending traffic to the main network.

PA System riding on IP Surveillance Networt = possible?

look at Bogen they have an interface that lets you activate a traditional paging system via Ethernet.

projecting one camera feed on top of another feed

you could get a quad splitter with picture in picture. If you are going analog. We have a setup in an interview room that shows the two cameras with the smaller one in a corner. you could either record the combined picture on one channel or use two channels of a dvr for your recordings. I would use two good analog cameras as they are not that much money these days. PM me if you want part numbers

GV-800 card crashing, maybe OS is the issue, help?

What version of Geovision are you running? You should check the card for compatability with the geovision version. Certain series cards will not work with the current software.
  25. google some dedicated LP capture systems and see what kind of hardware and software they use. Some LPR systems have special software to deal with reflective plates and IR problems. The info you get may give you some ideas on lenses and frame rates.
