Continouos cable runs underground
jeromephone replied to Numb-nuts's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
You should pull in a string however if it is a small conduit getting through a 2nd time can be a problem as the string tends to wrap around the existing cables. If you are using the small conduit it may be cheap enough to just do another run with a string in it and nothing else. In this area where we are subject to frost they usually are around 4 feet. You are correct about using the direct bury rated as over time you will get water in the conduit. -
12 volts battery for wireless mini ip cam
jeromephone replied to shdes's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
could you hide a trail cam ? They have a lot of options and are set up for operation over a longer period of time. -
You have the correct idea on catching the plate from a stopped car. check the mfg websites and other links on this site about the actual specks for the camera I know geovision and other mfgs make a specific camera and or software for license plate capture. The problems are day and night reflection from the plates and the different colors and patterns of different states plates. If you look at the LP cameras and software it often shows European or Asian plates in there examples these plates tend to be the same size with block letters and numbers and no fancy graphics which make reading them difficult.

jeromephone replied to lovely23m's topic in System Design
look at the air fiber type link for the main feed it is a bit expensive but bandwidth would not be a problem. -
Any reason to use the analogue video output?
jeromephone replied to FishFish's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
you might use it to aim the camera if you have a small service monitor. other wise I cannot see why you would use it. -
cat 7 is only for very high end Ethernet installs of which there are very few. I would go with the cat 6 copper as some brands are 23 gauge which should give you a little better current carrying capacity if you are using for power. your cameras are 100/mps and the cat 6 is rated for 1000 mps so you have plenty of headroom for future expansion, or the next generation of cameras.

Pan & Tilt on the cheap
jeromephone replied to centurian's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
they make a pan and tilt base for the older style outdoor enclosures but you would still need a controller. You would get better coverage putting up additional cameras and it would probably be cheaper also. -
do you have digital watermark enabled on the cameras. There is a program to show that the video has not been altered if you have the watermark enabled.

Pricing Help for Business Camera System
jeromephone replied to paulf5243's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
THe easy part of the job is getting costs for equipment and then coming up with a markup. The big kicker is labor. Do you think it is going to take 10 hours or 100 hours? You need to be realistic and give yourself some leeway. If you don't get it and you know your costs be glad as you will suffer more from an underbid job you get than one you lose because you were "realistic " on your price. -
smallest ip cam (almost concealed) and extra IR
jeromephone replied to shdes's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Check out axis they have some cameras designed to be hidden -
I can't see the line either but if it is a horizontal rolling line it probably is a ground loop problem.

How get picture (not real time video) from camera
jeromephone replied to bybruno's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
are you talking snapshot? as opposed to live video? camera info would be informative. -
the cleanest way would be to hook both laptop and dvr to the router. via cable. you will only have to have the hardwired connection to the laptop active and you will still have internet and access to any other equipment on the network.
-
go to the geovision website and you should be able to find specks for NVRs and dvr. You can also download the latest firmware as well as nvr software

It usually comes down to a price point a 2 mega may not be that much more than a 1.3 but going from a 2 to a 3 or five may be a big uptick in price. It seems that the base model has gone from a 1.3 to a 2 in the past year or so. If you can look at the cameras side by side it gives you the best idea of what will work.

Looking for Wide Angle Cam for a Small Area
jeromephone replied to eyal8r's topic in Security Cameras
first check out a lens chart to see what you need there is a free on on this site. Then see which cameras offer that lens. -
I think the more cameras you have the better coverage you are going to get. I would say I would rather have 4, 2 mega pixel cameras than one or two of the higher mega pixel ratings as you can cover a given area better. You may not need the very top of the market but I would stick with a name brand mfg with tech support in your home country. Others will differ but I would stick with IP cams as opposed they seem to be the biggest segment of the market now also the cat 5/6 cable allows for POE and other network devices. I have purchased complete systems and have been happy you do not run into compatibility problems and many times don't have licensing issues either. Generally I think you are better off with a separate POE switch rather than a unit with built in POE. There are several posts about specific camera brands and I would look those over to get an idea on different equipment

when you save the clips from the geo system to other media checkbox include player that way you can burn a CD or send to a thumb driver and it will replay just like it was on the server. gives you better control of the clips and will play on any windows machine.

Can I use a Y to split video signal before DVR ?
jeromephone replied to bentech's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
a look at PI MFG website lists multiple powered splitters that will allow you to split your camera signal to the DVR and Monitor 2nd monitor can be several feet from the dvr 100+ feet if necessary. prices start around 25.00 -
Can you put a relay on the gate? In other words if the gate is electric you could close a relay to start up the camera recording. Are you using an NVr or just a single camera.
-
Who sells that DVR and do they have a firmware update?
-
You will get something like a fire file that is fire resistant that is it will withstand a certain temp for a certain amount of time. I don't know what you are doing but not only the dvr hd but all the wiring in and out would need to be protected.

One door Access Control Recommendation
jeromephone replied to xodid2's topic in General Access Control Discussion
check your local fire electrical codes before you start. You may find that you may have to meet special requirements relating to life safety issues depending on the type of usage the building is getting. Might be cheaper to replace the door. -
Hikvision NVR + PoE cameras Help!
jeromephone replied to andreslaino's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I keep beating the same drum but could someone tell me approx. how much you save by not buying from a US supplier who offers tech support? My guess is you are going to go through this drill over and over as software updates etc are released. How many resellers/rebrander vendors are their in this country hundreds? Sorry for the rant
