  1. No reason not to put it in attic just make sure you have the ability to remote in for all functions as tweaking stuff may be a bit of a chore when you are not physically at the NVR.
  2. cmp is plenum rated cable, you probably don't need that in a residential install, the plenum cable is usually installed in commercial buildings. The need for this cable is determined by building design and local and electrical code standards. It is more fire resistant and gives off less toxic gases if burned.

    Software based NVR/DVR

a lot of IP camera supplies will give you the software with a camera purchase. Geovision will supply a 32 camera NVR software and will not charge a license fee if you use their cameras. Their website has server specks for what hardware to use. Look at several of the common mfgs and many of them offer NVR software for a limited number of cameras.
  4. local electrical supplier should have solid copper cat5 or 6 also I would invest in a cheap wire mapper to check your cables. make sure the plugs you get are for solid wire and rated for whatever you go with cat 5 or cat 6. get plenty of extra plugs as they are easy to cross up when installing.
  5. I would second getting an electrician involved. In our area we got stopped on a job pulling low voltage wire through conduit as the inspector was not happy with the firestop process, their was no code violation, and he could site no local codes but we knew better than to fight it as we would run into him on future jobs. If your local contractor has a good reputation and his approach is solid he may be your best option also if the system has been in place for a while it may be time to upgrade. I look at some of the cameras we put in 5 years ago vs today's Hd cameras and one can really see the difference
  6. if you try it and it does not work you would need a 1 in 2 out powered splitter probably around 25.00

    Wiring Help

try only using one or two pairs for power and see if that helps

    Axis M7016 PTZ control issue.

Do these cameras have addresses like when you link up multiple analog PTZs usually set by dip switches in the analog world could be that there are duplicate addresses that work fine on separate runs but cause problems when things are connected together.

How I wish I spoke Chinese

If you know this client well ask her how much she paid for the no support unit. I would like to know how much people really save. If she will tell you then you can factor in your service charges it would be interesting to see if there really is a savings.

    Wiring Help

Is this an analog camera? If it is it sounds like a ground loop. make sure everything is grounded and then make sure the camera cable is not running for a long distance parallel to the mains power.

    lost control

did you run any tests to see if you are getting interference from another source? could be a new source of RF if this is an unlicensed part of the wireless band.

    Remote cctv access problem

make sure the account you are using has remote access as allowed. also can you ping your router from outside. check your port forwarding etc many threads on this subject

    32 unit intercom help

check out Viking electronics they have a 12 unit system that can be piggy backed to expand. They use a regular analog phone handset to communicate and release the door.
  17. Geo has a program that is called vital sign monitor. You can also set up a setting to notify you of individual camera failure. I agree with other poster get a good POE switch and put it on a good UPS and your failure rate should be very low.

    New install - bad image

what are you using for a power supply and are you using unused pairs on your cat 5 for power. Are the power supply and the dvr on the same power outlet
  19. Does the camera have a built in microphone or audio in and out? ETS has microphones and power sources for cameras with audio in and out.
  20. The vendor you purchased it from should be able to provide this type of basic support.

    UTP Termination

Yes I would do jacks on both ends
  22. Anybody used a quality wireless camera? I have a potential customer who wants to observe a room with no recording (for now) and it would need to be wireless. I have looked at Geo and Axis and used those products but never the wireless options. I would like to avoid the very low end stuff. Any other quality options are welcome.

    wireless IP camera

This will be interior no infrared or audio. I looked at this site the other day and it may be possible to get a cable to it. it actually has a high ceiling and I am going to look at the axis 360 camera but still am interested in a wireless option if it comes to that

Multiple CCTV Camera on single Ethernet Cable

If you go analog how are you getting power to each camera? It looks like you have a pathway if you have a network all ready in place I would go IP/POE.

    UTP Termination

It always seemed to me that installing plugs was harder than installing jacks. I prefer the patch panel patch cord at the Data closet end and a jack with a patch cord at the camera end. that way if you have to move a camera you can just change patch cords to the desired length provided you are still withing the 100 meter limit. whatever you end up doing at minimum be sure to wiremap all the runs.
