Try and get the dvr and power supply on the same power line also ground the power supply and the dvr. If you find only one camera is causing the problem try instlling a ground loop isolater
-
sounds like a ground loop are you using baluns on the cat 5. a

look at PI MFG they have several different baluns that incorporate power as well as video signal. Prices are reasonable. -

jeromephone replied to cctvtekkie76's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
I would still avoid the CCA. -
RG59 + 18/2 Shotgun cable, Power Wires as Copper or CCA
jeromephone replied to cctvtekkie76's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
I don't know about the conversion the copper power wire is 18 ga that we use I would check a chart to see what kind of voltage drop you will get at that distance. You may end up running a separate power wire if the voltage drop is too great. Did you mean the longest run was 300 m or that was the total length of wire, -

RG59 + 18/2 Shotgun cable, Power Wires as Copper or CCA
jeromephone replied to cctvtekkie76's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Go with the solid copper. CCA may not be permitted in your area due to electrical code. Exactly how much would you save by using the cca? I was in the cable business for 14 years and never installed cca so I can really say if it will hold up but I never had issues with solid copper other than someone cutting the cable. I would really like to know the total savings you would get using cca vs the total cost of the project. Thanks -
yes that should work (rg59/w18ga power) make sure you size the UPS to handle the DVR and the camera load with infra red active. Type of UPS is a factor, as you don't want the voltage to drop and then have the UPS kick in I think you want a line interactive UPS that supplies constant voltage. I would size things to give yourself at least 15 MIn of runtime but that is something you will have to come up with. If possible I would go with a 24vAC isolated power supply. Such as made byAltronix

I always look at the warranty issue. If I have a problem how do I get the item repaired and or replaced> If I build my own it cloud the issue. Support is another thing to consider. IF you buy a camera and it has problems talking to the NVR is it a camera issue or an NVR issue.

Panasonic IP cameras - looking for NVR
jeromephone replied to heatgun's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
do a search of systems like exacq, nuuo or other nvr that support multiple brands. Usually they will have a page on the website that will tell you the make and model cameras that they are compatible with. -
what is best for home cctv cat5e or 6 ..or RG59
jeromephone replied to skywalkerdigital's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
I am saying that more and more things are running on the network and on cat 6 and I am unable to predict what new stuff will be riding on the network. I would run cat6 to my camera locations and add a spare cable in areas where you might some day want to add things like access control, audio, climate controls etc. There is talk of LED lighting over POE as well. -

Record PC activity on DVR - is it possible?

We did this with a pos system that outputted to a bag monitor. We sent the converted video to its own channel you had the camera on the bar and the full video from the cash register on an adjacent channel -
Can old CAT5 cables handle IP Cameras POE?
jeromephone replied to jmjudy2's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
if your connection is the problem consider putting jacks on and using a short patch cord sometimes they are easier to terminate than the plugs. -
5.2.5 Chinese to English on ds-2cd2xxx cameras
jeromephone replied to buellwinkle's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I guess if you are just fooling around with stuff for yourself the 20.00 savings might be OK but if you are reselling and the customer sees a a half Chinese info on the camera they are going to be less than impressed. If you have to stand the warranty the 20.00 looks even smaller. As stated several times before use a good vendor and you will get support and pricing will not be out of line. -
Can old CAT5 cables handle IP Cameras POE?
jeromephone replied to jmjudy2's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
sounds like the cable may have been attacked by the mice or something bigger. The cat 5 if it passes your tester should be fine for running a cameras as you are only running 100 over those links. My guess is you will have to replace those cables that fail your wire map tests. -
One door Access Control Recommendation
jeromephone replied to xodid2's topic in General Access Control Discussion
nice thing about the axis is it will handle 2 doors and you can add additional panels software is built in so you can access from a web browser. for small installs it is great and the price is very good. -
Canon plans to purchase Axis
jeromephone replied to thewireguys's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
well most of my business was just wire pulling and I have to admit once a job was installed and certified I has a lot less warranty issues and trouble than we had with access control cameras etc. you are always bidding against someone either the owners internal staff or another contractor so I would still take a shot at a job like that 1100 cam one. -
a lot of the time that involves changing dip switches on the cameras itself

Canon plans to purchase Axis
jeromephone replied to thewireguys's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
It seems that the customers who want the top of the line stuff are larger corporate companies or healthcare org. THey want stuff that works and in a lot of cases is a add on to brands they all ready have. So a little savings on a camera or system that is difficult to work with or requires translation in order to work or has to be replaced often does not even enter into consideration. Myself I would rather work with this type of customer as they are demanding but they also know you get what you pay for. We have done the small installs and it seems we spend more time and warranty work on a 4 camera install that a 20 camera Axis intstall. Plus all things considered I would rather mark up a 1000.00 camera than a 100.00 camera. -
Which type of security system I use for my company?
jeromephone replied to avrilisa9's topic in General Digital Discussion
are you looking at camera system or access control system or both. I would look at Axis as they have both they are more costly but have great quality. -
Hikvision NVR help needed - DS-7616NI

seems like you have to know way too much computer stuff to get the updates. I just went through the same thing with a ubiquity system that required a bunch of command line work. I have a fair amount of computer experience but I don't want to have to jump through a bunch of hoops to get something I paid for brand new to work. In my opinion if it should work out of the box and upgrades should be a pretty simple click on a link or download a file -
New CCTV System setup and design for 3 storey building
jeromephone replied to misterjeffreybarnes's topic in System Design
you will have to place your POE switches no more than 300 ft from the cameras if you can do everything from the server room that will make your management that much eaiser. If you can afford a mananged switch I would go for it as that will allow you to do such things as shut off ports, port aggregation and control. If the distances are too long I would try and keep a switch on each floor.
