    Access control board options

axis covers two doors comes with software
  2. I would support replacing cameras but would look to avoid wireless cameras if possible. If they have a cable connection now they must have power all ready to go to wireless you still have to provide power.

    General reliability

not knowing what NVR you are using I would look at the log (if your system keeps one) and see if you are losing just the cameras or you are getting a system reset. Also your IT dept may have monitoring on the network. Are other computers going off line when these incidents happen?

Purchase an NVR w/POE or NVR W/O POE and a switch?

I just worked on a speco 8 camera system and the cameras and NVR are part of the zipkit. System installed with no problem. Cameras were the 2 megapixel domes and they look fine in this particular application. I guess I would use the speco with the POE. Cameras with the sd cards are so you can record right on the camera either for a backup to the NVR or to replace the nvr.

need help for opening ps file

see if you can get them to give you the footage with their player included or at least tell you what kind of DVR it came from and them maybe you can download a player for that DVR
  7. we did something like this for a hospital and we installed a aiphone video door intercom a person could call on the intercom and the operator could release the door. I think they used a relay on the motion sensing side of the door as it would open if someone wanted out. I know that door had a reader on it and the system was Keyscan but could not tell you all the details. Agree with everyone to avoid mag locks.

New Big DVR vs many small DVRs

have you considered IP? You could use onboard storage eliminate the dvr/nvr all together or look at storage in the cloud. with multiple dvrs you will probably pay more per channel than by going to a single DVR

Looking for a basic CCTV system

You could get a couple of analog cameras and a quad splitter and dump that into a frame grabber that would display on a pc.

    Camera with autofocus output

Panosonic had a autofocus dome a couple of years back worked well but was priced at what the IP cams are now.

I need a 8ch DVR with a BNC Spot output

Digital watchdog is what we have used in the past good warranty and not the least cost but not the highest either.

    hybrid nvr/dvr

I have a potential customer who has some analog cameras all ready installed and wants to add some hd Ip cameras. I have looked at a lot of systems online and just wonder what anyone has used that worked. I have looked at Speco and seen others advertised. I suppose the other option is to get encoders and dump the signal into a NVR

    help with old card 650/750/800 v3 01

look on the geovision website they have version info which might help. certain versions of cards can only be upgraded to a certain level. Look on this forum for more info on how to detect a fake card. card could have been cooked when they scrapped the dvr

IP camera with Audio + PSS

your geovision camera comes with a NVR disk and certain cameras have built in microphones. You can also record to the SD card but you still need the nvr setup to download the SD info should you go that route.
  15. Tomcctv is right on. the other thing to remember is that a cat 5 cable the different pairs are different lengths based on the twist of the cable. I don't know if that makes a difference but bottem line if you have a ground loop which it looks like you do you have to change something. You can try a ground loop isolater if you can determine the camera or pair that is causing the problem. They are pretty cheap but probably about the same as putting in the proper cabling.
  16. why not run 2 separate cables then if you ever want to switch to IP you can
  17. jeromephone

    Is it theft?

I always try to price out cable by the roll. If I have some leftover then great but if I run over a little or for some reason the customer wants it. I have all ready figured it into the price. I have priced out systems line by line and just a bottem line number and don't think it makes much difference. If the customer is a jerk they are going to try and beat you up on price at any rate. We had a potential customer that as a matter of how they did business was to always find something wrong and demand a discount. This was from shippers and raw material suppliers and service people. we ended up not doing anything for them.
  18. go to any electrical supply house or the big box stores the brand we use is Carlon. Just make sure you leave a drip loop and we always drill a small hole in the bottem of the box to let out any moisture that may get in over the years.
  19. the camera is only going to send a very small voltage down the coax to the monitor or dvr I don't know for sure what it is but about .75v seems what I remember. If you have 24volt AC cameras they will send a similar output. Think of the camera as a transformer.
  20. I have used the Geovision decoder box it is not cheap but you can setup different matrixes of your cameras and has HDMI out. I am not sure how it works with different brands of cameras.

    Cheap cctv tester

If you tote a laptop around you can buy framegrappers for under 50 that way you can save the video to show customer or log what the install looked like when you finished

odd issue that i have never seen before

Look up altronix they make a 24 volt isolated power supply which is like individual wall warts but is in one box with multiple outlets.
  23. jeromephone

odd issue that i have never seen before

If you have a bad camera or bad power supply it could cause this we had a system that did something similar and it was a power supply problem. We found that if possible use an isolated power supply so if on camera or lead was bad it would not affect the others. The isolated ones are more money but I think they are worth it .
  24. If you have hdmi out why not a flat screen TV generally cheaper than a large monitor.
  25. Check with some of the major supply houses and find out how they qualify companies that they are going to sell for. I know they do extensive checking before they list any products. This avoids the exact problems you are experiencing.
