My newest piece of test equipment and my new outdoor Cat5
jeromephone replied to Numb-nuts's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
I guess I should have looked closer you probably don't have UL across the pond but something similar. The other thing about cheap cable is if it comes in pull boxes often it is packaged poorly and you waste a lot of time trying to fix the tangles as you get to the ends of the box. -
My newest piece of test equipment and my new outdoor Cat5
jeromephone replied to Numb-nuts's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Is that cable UL rated? We use a lot outdoor rated gel filled cable from General or Bertek. We like it because unless it is gel filled you can get moisture wicking through the whole cable. Just a hangup I guess but I am always a little worried about offshore cable with so many problems with fake UL certificates and CCA being passed off as the real deal. -
Running Cables inbetween Cavity Walls
jeromephone replied to smcctv's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
some real basic stuff we use all the time a nylon string with weight attached to drop from the top to the bottem of the wall. A wire coat hanger with a hook bent onto one end. We determine where we want our opening by finding the studs first. Use a drywall saw or similar to cut an opening. We use a caddy low voltage adaptor that lets you screw on a faceplate with whatever connector you want, drop in the string and weight use your fishing tools (coat hanger and pull your string out tie on cable on the top and pull in. If you get the string weight hung up in the wall for some reason you can just abandon it as you are only looking at a couple of cents. -
Need help for set up the ports for 4 systems.

why not use control center you can set up each system as a matrix and use the remote view log as needed. -
DVR s with operating system embedded on chip
jeromephone posted a topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
I have seen a few dvr cards advertised that have the operating system embedded on the dvr card so no operating system needed on harddrive. Are any of these good or bad ? I am needing some small gas station type setups and am considering this option. Thanks -
anyone know what companies sell the most DVRs and NVRs. I would like to tell the customer they are getting one of a million sold as opposed to something out of the mainstream.

Bunker Hill Security H.264 IP Problem
jeromephone replied to Geekazoidtech's topic in Security Cameras
if the public Ip address is changing you will have to either pay for a static IP or use one of the ddyns services such as noip.com ( there are many others) -
I have a customer who wants to have an employee view 5 IP cameras I think I want a video decoder to take the IP signal and covert it to Analog I don't need to record and they don't want to view from a desktop. Also I am hoping there is something generic that will work with any .264 signal as this customer may have axis and geo cameras as well as some others.

Lightning - lost my best camera and maybe others today
jeromephone replied to QC444's topic in Security Cameras
We have a site with 7 cameras down at present. We are remounting on plastic boxes installing separate ground rods and putting surge protection between the camera and the remote POE switch. Hope this helps. Entrance protection is by far the most important you don't want to get someone killed or fry the DVR/NVR also check your connections we have found that the high winds and driving rain have a way of getting into connectors that normally would not have a problem. -
Alternative to cat5 for use with baluns?
jeromephone replied to thesillym's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
the baluns are designed to work with twisted pair cat 5-6. It is cheap. If you have to go underground you can get direct bury cat 5 or 6 little more expensive but still cheap. -
We often do projectors and tvs so we use a usb video splitter that device uses the power from the usb port to support the two monitors you can place the 2nd monitor up to 200 feet away with no video loss on either monitor. cost is around 40.00 US

i need help with an outdoor analogue security cam
jeromephone replied to cplay1803's topic in Security Cameras
I would go with an infrared day night if you need some illumination. Many feel that you are better off with a separate illuminator but for what you are trying to do you should be able to get something good for 150 or less -
Idea For Classroom CCTV
jeromephone replied to wmyatthu's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
well I am surprised I actually seem to be in the mainstream thinking on this one. The special needs school that we did was for students with severe problems and they had strict guidelines on using the video. Wearable cameras for all staff and students that is the way to go -
Idea For Classroom CCTV
jeromephone replied to wmyatthu's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Do the teachers have a union at this school? We do a lot of school districts and have only put cameras in the classroom in one building. THis was a special needs school and the teachers and admin both wanted them. My question is why do you need cameras in the classroom? Safety ? teacher performance ? catch some kid goofing off? Are you planning on putting cameras on office personnel? They may doing something wrong. Do you have a written policy about how the video can be used. You may be able to get this past everyone but if someone thinks this is going to solve some underlying problem that won't happen you will probably just create more resentment and other problems. You really can't automate administration it is still about people to people or memo to people> -
Immervision
jeromephone replied to jeromephone's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
It has been a while but I remember that we were trying this in a police interview room and when you went to playback audio it did not sync correctly probably because the various software and DVRs were converting the images from an overhead view to a horizontal view. The pictures were fine the audio was just enough off that the customer was concerned a lawyer would say the video was tampered with because it did not sync up perfectly. we ended up putting in two regular cameras as the law in this state changed requiring 2 cameras anyway. I am going to try a non interview room app using these lenses and a HD IP camera. -
Not sure this is the right place to post but will try. Just gave up on an immervision camera system in a police interview room. Panasonic IP dome + Oclaris +immervision + loure mike cannot get the audio to sync with the video. Have had the Onssi rep and the immervision tech, and Pano rep all people involved for over a month and am offically giving up. I just posted so anyone thinking of this app should test it out first. the immervision seems to work ok for video but not the combined audio and video. Anyone made this setup work? I would like to know before I try and sell the immervision lenses.

I have Geovision bullet cameras mounted on metal light poles in a parking lot. I have lightening protection on the lines going into the building but I have lost 3 cameras in the past couple of months due to lightening or surges. Cameras are mounted directly to the metal poles should I isolate them from the poles by putting in a non conductive material between the camera and the pole or is that not worth the trouble. This is a newer install so light poles should be installed according to code so grounding etc should be ok. I have POE for these cameras mounted in weatherproof boxes near the cameras these appear to be ok and the cable checks OK. Any suggestions?

Anyone used Brivo or have thoughts on them?
jeromephone replied to Razer_SE's topic in General Access Control Discussion
I agree with smith readers are cheap and if you are going to have access control everyone should have a unique ID number whatever if you are going to issue just pin numbers you might as well give everyone the same number. -
Lightening protection
jeromephone replied to jeromephone's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
I got to look at the cameras today. The connectors on the cameras are completely cooked but the cams show no evidence of a direct hit. It looks like we have some kind of problem of the cable getting a surge which is going only to the camera side. Nothing going through the protection back to the building. I am thinking of isolating the camera and putting a second lighting pro from the POE switch at one end and another right at the camera. I think at this point I need to get an electrician to look at the problem.
