Sharing Door Contact between IDS and AC
jeromephone replied to crash64's topic in General Access Control Discussion
We always use our own contacts too much finger pointing when something goes wrong. Do you have room for a second set or can you embed something is the door and door frame? -
New IP camera install in warehouse, ok to do without conduit
jeromephone replied to thenewguymd's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
I do not see the issue about not running conduit. If it meets code and the wire is not carrying high voltage why would you run conduit? We do a lot of commercial data installs and most of the time the cable is either in cable tray or supported by J hooks. There usually is conduit from above the ceiling to the outlet box. again the major question is if it is a plenum or non plenum space. I would probably use a metal j hook as they meet any plenum requirements. -
New IP camera install in warehouse, ok to do without conduit
jeromephone replied to thenewguymd's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
I cannot see the picture of the J hooks but make sure they are the flat type and are placed at appropriate distance apart. I would not worry too much about not running conduit however be sure you get a statement from the customer defining if it is a Non-plenum or plenum rated space you are running your wire through. Pleunm is usually at least twice a much but still cheaper than re running it if the wrong type of wire is used. -
Transmitting Analog signals from camera to DVR 1000 feet

Cat 5 or cat 6 cable how are you going to be powering the cameras? -
+2

Try for and entry level job pulling cable you will soon see how a network is constructed and you will probably be exposed to IP cameras wireless access points and anything else that runs on ethernet these days. I never have run into a boss who won't answer questions or show you stuff if you want to learn.

most interview rooms we have done have 2 cameras and 2 microphones the recorded video should have a digital watermark and time and date stamped onto the live video stream. any number of NVR/DVR systems will handle this.

1200 feet CAT5 and PVC underground Project
jeromephone replied to andresdamas's topic in System Design
if you run fiber you can get underground rated 6 strand for a reasonable price check the major supply houses. also you can get switches with built in fiber adaptors for less than standard media convertors. look up allied telesys. I am assuming you have power at the both ends. The nice thing about fiber is with the 3 spare pairs you can run seperate out your camera data from you other network traffice if you want to. -
Ubiquity AirCAM Hardware/Software Problems
jeromephone replied to CorvairShaggy's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I tried the aircam out and found the cameras to be pretty low quality. seemed like a mid range analog camera quality pic. -
Need more info but can give you partial answer coax 75 ohm either RG-59 or 6 solid copper center 95 percent shield preferred copper shield power wire depends on voltage, amp requirements and length we run min of 18 ga copper stranded as in siamese which is rg59 coax with an 18 ga stranded power wire. We also run a lot of 16 ga for longer runs. You also need to knoiw if you are dealing with plenum requirements. Are you running under ground, if so that changes wire requirements. Power supplies look up Altronics or similiar mfgs they have a wide range of options

I think video alarm makes just such an enclosure.

Dash Cam Solutions Using Rotating Storage?
jeromephone replied to PeteCress's topic in Dashcams - Mobile DVR's
we did a few bus cams and that setup has a delay built in that only starts or stops the cam 30 seconds after engine start they feel it protects the recorder /in this case harddrive from surges. -
you can use a powered video splitter 1 in 2 out for ea camera and then use baluns on a pair from the cat 5

Using Scotch locks with CCTV??
jeromephone replied to Ninety's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
It will work on the power and video if you are using baluns but on the video you are creating another connection which is a potential point of failure. If you home run you can upgrade to IP without pulling new wire. How much are you going to save by not home running the wire? With home runs you only have two connections. -
We sell a few 4 or 8 channel Digital watchdog DVRs and have had good luck with them. Is anyone else using them? We are a small shop and want to try and stick with one supplier for the very small analog jobs. Anyone have a better alternative in that price range? We are not unhappy but are always looking.

IP cam Test Monitor
jeromephone replied to Jomadav's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
we use the pinpoint and a laptop and find it handy to setup cameras during construction as often the customer does not have the server room ready we can at least get the focus and such pretty much done. ALso we know the camera is working after install. -
Look into IP more resolution and you could make one fiber run use a couple of switches with fiber ports on them. You would end up scrapping the cameras but overall you would get plenty of bandwith to expand later. You could also keep your cameras and use a converter from analog to IP. 6 strand fiber should cost around 1.00 a foot if you are buying it yourself connectors sc/st/lc around 15.00 ea you would have labor installing of course. I would look into pre terminated fiber you can order exactly the length you want and it comes factory terminated on both ends you have to be a little more carefull pulling but it would save you time.

Does sthe DVR have a 12v power output for the cameras? even if it is a seperate power supply check voltage at the camera. What size wire arre you using? Depending on wire size that distance should not be a problem. We have powered cameras with 12v Dc on much longer runs without problems.

Anyone have any experience with the Digital Watchdog 4 camera NVR? We have used there little DVRs but wondered if anyone has used this.

Chief of police fired last week for going into the womens locker room with his girlfriend. Caught on hallway camera. Chief one of the two with rights to the system. Ever heard of delete?

That little bundle of joy will cost you over $100,000.00 to get it to age 18 ! better sell a few more systems

are you the default admin account with all rights

Brutal cold- how do the cameras hold up
jeromephone replied to shockwave199's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
We are in Michigan and have many analog and IP cameras outside and never have had a temp related problem. We have seen temps as low as -14 F for a few days in a row and had no reported issues. -
look at the louroe line of equipment. many cameras have built in mikes but the camera location is not necessarly the best location for a mike.

Cat5e Best price and where to purchase?
jeromephone replied to Al Drake's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
I would make a seperate run for each camera as you may want to go to an IP system sometime and the little bit of wore wont make much cost difference. Plus it may make troubleshooting easier.
