run one of the cables depicted in the pic for each camera label them on both ends. That will make trouble shooting down the road that much easier. The last thing you want is another connection aka point of failure, in some hard to get at place. Compared to the cost of the project one more cable run is nothing.

Drop Ceiling Camera Mounting
jeromephone replied to Liquid_Squelch's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
We use fender washers and wing nuts the fender washers let you spread the weight on the tile. As the other poster said code requires support other than the ceiling grid. -
I am looking for an annunicator panel which will let me record a message for each alarm. I would like a panel that I can use a n/c or n/o relay so if input 1 goes into alrarm it would also announce "Door one open" I have scanned google and have found several panels that will give me a visual indicator and a tone but nothing with a audio message. we have used a few annunicator panels in the past (Keltron) but this is the first request of this type.

Thanks for the replys I think I found a unit that will work with my existing system. A Viking K-2000-DVA that allows for eight inputs and eight outgoing audio messages. -
Got a Cisco router? You may want to replace it.
jeromephone replied to groovyman's topic in Test Bench
I am afraid this is only round one from cisco They are coming out with a line of switches that has non-standard (rj-45) connectors so they will be pushing everything to that platform cameras phones etc. I think they want only cisco devices plugged into cisco switches -
your going to have to talk with you Insurance agent and probably your lawyer. The insurance person can give you some idea of what may be covered and what is not covered.

lower drag on resources
jeromephone replied to jeromephone's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I will check out the exac product. There must be a sweet spot that balances mega pixel rating, frame rate processing power, and storage requirements , and picture quality. We do a fair amount of IP but inmany cases analog still makes sense. -
I saw in a previous post about how geovision ate up cpu resources. Are there any good systems out there that are easier on the computing requirements? I have used a lot of geo but it would be nice to not have to go to IV and tons of ram.

Recommended RG59 Siamese Bulk Cable
jeromephone replied to vbman213's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
you can get rg58/2-18 ga in 1000 ft rolls. You should look at the installed cable and determine if it is plenum rated cable. Plenum rated is for use in air handling spaces and usually is three times what riser rated cable is. Any thing you buy should be solid copper core and copper shielded. Try a local electrical supply house for cable and connectors. -
Right cable for 100 foot run
jeromephone replied to stonesmiith's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
whenever you exceed the 100 meter length on cable runs your device/computer may work but it can cause problems in other parts of your network. we have seen seemingly unrelated connectivity issues cropping up that were finally traced back to out of length cable runs on different devices. -
Right cable for 100 foot run
jeromephone replied to stonesmiith's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
cable should be solid copper conductor. if you are putting on plugs they need to be specfic for that type of cable there are different plugs for stranded wire and for solid wire. The best solution with solid wire is to put data jacks on the cable and then use a properly rated patch cord (which will be stranded) to connect to your device. -
just about any data cabling contractor should be able to terminate and test fiber.

It might be cheaper to get a cable connection to the trailer for the duration of the project. If you have to pay for a year's service charge it to the customer. We did a time lapse and that is how we handled it. Somehow the customer will be paying for the connectivity anyway either through your bill or paying the ISP.

UTP or STP CAT6 cable for 2mp setup
jeromephone replied to Integraoligist's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
The 6a STP is not necessary as your camera will not need that much bandwidth. We always go with cat6 mainly because that is what we usually install for data. You can easily run 1000 on it. Like the others said buy solid copper UL rated. -
Nice but where are the coffee cups half eaten lnches and old cameras and parts stored

KT&C/Dahua setup with a ground loop?
jeromephone replied to tms233's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
A cheap way to test would be to get 2 wall wart power supplies and power up the cameras one at a time and then together. If that works the problem may be in the power supply itself. -
Has anyone used one of these? I am trying to get and idea of how much bandwidth they would use.

I ordered one and will post my experience with it

What label machine do you prefer for marking CAT-6 and RG-59
jeromephone replied to ssnapier's topic in Test Bench
We use the brother P touch They make a model with data settings on it. We use the weatherproof rough service tapes. You can also use there other labling tapes (diiferent colors, sizes and transparent tapes for other stuff) when we do a larger job we use Panduit labels that we print by the sheet. Usually if we are running a lot of cables we print up 2 sheets of the same numbers. For the wrap around cable lables. One goes on the outlet end and one on the patch panel end. It really helps keep the numbering in line. Too much time is wasted printing up label by label with the hand printer. The installers also know right away if they have a mismatch so they can get it fixed before everything is off. Years ago one of our guys was writing numbers on the cables and somehow got the same number on four different cables. a major mess when we started to test and put the lables on the faceplates. -
