Why are you using twin server? I thought you wanted to view the main geo system from another PC that should only require you to enter the hosts IP address if you are on the same lan. Do you have the webserver service turned on in the host computer?
-
all you should have to do is enter the IP addres of your server in a web browser and allow the active x to load. If you are on the same lan you should not need the port number

Motorala should have some specifications some where as what type of cable is required. As the other posters said if it calls for 50 ohm cable don't use 75. See what connectors they require also some of this rf stuff uses something other than BNC

Are geovison cameras supported by any NVR software
jeromephone posted a topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Are Geovision cameras supported by any of the other NVRS or cms software and has anyone used them other than on their mgmt software? I have looked on a couple of sites under compatible cameras but have not found anything yet. (Not sure this is the place to post maybe should be under geovision. -
one inch for sure you might be able to get your cable in 3/4 but the fun starts when you have bends. If you have a very tight pull you run the risk of stripping the insulation off. I don't know the cost difference between 3/4 and one inch but don't think it is too much. Most of the cabling jobs we do on new construction are putting in 3/4 for just two cat6 cables

Altronix also has some outdoor rated power supplies.

Geovision ip cams
jeromephone replied to Zohan's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
we have used the 110 and 120 line and have had good luck. The only reason w went to the 120 was the dome had a varifocal lens. We have a lot of geovision installed and the nvr software is compatibile with the geovision cms software. Get a good supplier as you want to have warrentee issues handled through them as it takes a while to get replacements directly from mfg. -
CCTV with Audio recording for a conference room
jeromephone replied to puremobi's topic in System Design
i think you need to look at equipment designed for conference room use. There are systems that do just what you say, a person speaks and the camera moves to them. Look at Sony and JVC for cameras. I don't konw why but the conference room cameras are quite a bit better. If you go to a high end Sony HD conference room camera you can be well over 5000.00 just for the camera. The analog cams are around are also avaliable and do a great job. -
Do the cables make a difference in video quality?
jeromephone replied to Toaster's topic in General Analog CCTV Discussion
Don't forget the connections they can be as important as the cable. As far as super high end cables go there is more market that tech. We bid jobs all the time calling for specfic brand spec cable but it is more to keep out the very cheap copper clad alum. Guys putting out specks don't want issues later on. SOmeone told me about a demo someone was doing with high end cables for audio vs cheap stuff no one could tell the difference (very short runs of course between the high end copper and two coat hangers. -
Probably did have the nurses install it they have to do everything else and take time out to keep the patient alive

If this were an install for a customer I would think it would look kind of tacky. You would have some kind on junction off the coax to send the power different directions and thacould look clunky. I would look at the cost difference of running a power wire for each camera it might make trouble shooting easier.
-
If you are only running 15 meters I would use the coax you will have more current carrying capacity on the 18 ga than on the 24 ga in the cat 5. You might need that if your ptz has a heater and blower. You don't know what you are getting as far as cameras on ebay maybe it is legit maybe it will last a week and maybe you will be able to return it or get tech support. If you have something worth protecting i would always go through a ligit dealer. You may pay more but you are getting all the support warrentee etc.

MEME BATTLE: Rory vs. ak357 (WARNING: extreme immaturity)
jeromephone replied to ak357's topic in Test Bench
how about taking all this crap off the site. whoever said duke it out on PM is right. I like this forum and this BS just detracts from the good stuff to be found here. I have gotten valuablule info from most of the members here but thes flame wars just make annoyed. Seems like this has been carried far enough I would hate to see members drop out because of the type of posting going on. -
we put some paging equipment in a freezer plant running mostly 16/2 the cable would stay flexible long enough to pull it in but we had more problems with the terminations than the cable. I like that idea of the gel filled I guess you could put a chunk of it in a freezer and see how it acts.

Cabling - What is your preferred brand?
jeromephone replied to Fiona's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
We use a lot of General Cable due to their tie in with Panduit. We have used Belden and like it General seems to be a little less. The other thing about quality cable is how it comes out of the box no tangles and no hanging up. -
agree, if you do go multi mode go 50 micron laser enhanced.

central recording system or multiple NVRs
jeromephone posted a topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
We are working with a customer who has multiple buildings and most have analog systems they are switching over to IP on all new installs. They want to have all the recording in one building for the entire company. Is this the way to go? I am concerned that a network failure would leave them with no coverage. For instance this is a hosiptal the er has 30 some cameras and they have a local dvr which is accessable via the network. If the network goes down they still have coverage and would have if they were recoding to an NVR in the same building but not if the server was located in another building 5 miles away that had a cable cut or whatever. What are our reccommendations? -
central recording system or multiple NVRs
jeromephone replied to jeromephone's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
well thanks for the input I am meeting with these folks on Tuesday and will post a report. I have the feeling they already have make up their minds about having everything at one location but I am going to give them the option. I will look into the the various enterprise software packages. I am not a fan of milestone but can work with it. The other thing I thought about is we could leave analog servers in place for a period of time and just use oe in two out powered splitters to send a video stream to the encoder as well as the current systems. -

The have a large pipleine fiber to all sites and fiber throughout the buildings. agreed that network down video is probably the least of their troubles and they would have all hands on deck to correct the issues, What systems are you using for failover? I can see where just a couple of days at most local storage would be needed. What so you reccommend for an overall mgmt system. We currently have Geovison in place but probably will be looking at something else. I also envision a video wall that will allow 24/7 monitoring, right now security has the ability to monitor all the cameras but they also are out and about more than they are watching cameras. -
Is that cat 5e solid copper and is the coating the type of PVC.. Is it UL rated? It seems hard for me to believe it would pass speck for data at that price. We have seen a lot of alumin clad copper which in some areas will get you in trouble with local building codes.
-
Most cat 5 cat 6 installed in premis wiring is solid not stranded. Patch cords should be stranded. I think if you are planning on future proofing you should use cat 6 rated cables and try to keep your runs under 300 feet even if using baluns that way you can just switch things out. We have installed basically no cat 5 in industrial commerical applications in the last couple of years.

Dumb I know, but would a Wii power supply work ok? 12v 3.2a

whatever you use make sure you check polarity on your power supplies. -
BNC Compression Fittings
jeromephone replied to troy6363's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
we use the ICM and have not had the problems that occurred with the crimp on. The main issue is making sure whatever type you use they are installed correctly. it seems every tech has a shortcut or "better way" -
would it be better to run some level of RAID that would write the data to different drives.
