Immervision
jeromephone replied to jeromephone's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Sorry about the late repost. I do not know if the setup worked with the immervision lens out of the picture. I was fowarded an email about this from the immervision rep and I apparently posted this in such a way to indicate that I did not receive the support on this issue from the vendors. 1. All parties did there best to solve the problem. The Pano rep, the immervison rep and the onssi rep all tried over a period of a couple of months to make this particular combination work. 2. Immervison product worked as advertised but in this application and combination for whatever reason we could not sync up audio. 3. The fact that I may need to sell my lenses has nothing to do with the quality of the product I do not have an immediate need and I can use the cash as this portion of the project has cost me quite a bit of money with having to buy and additonal camera and refund money to the customer. I think all three products are excellent but I posted this to help others avoid this same problem or at least do a extensive bench test prior to install. -
What is on the horizon for High Speed Internet
jeromephone replied to SEANHAWG's topic in Test Bench
i hope wired does not go away anytime soon I would have to retire. We install miles of cable almost all of it CAT 6 and most customers are not even running 10/100/1000 switches. Cat 7 is avaliable but I don't know who is making 10/100/1000/10,000 switches yet. A lot of mfgs offer 25 year warrentees. It seems that everthing is going to IP or poe. I read an article that proposed doing all the lighting is a house with POE. A data drop to a switch is a powerfull thing. -
We are awaiting the first big storm of the season we are just far enough from Lake Michigan to get the full load dumped on us. They are predicting a giant storm and the weatherman is checking doppler, viper, radar color charts, apparently they don't look out the window because all the electronics show us buried under at least a foot of snow we have had an inch at best.

I would check the mfg website and talk to a rep. I think thats how I got the info a few months ago when I was going through the same drill. The 50 micron may be overkill but who knows what else might be running over the fiber it seems that everything is IP anymore. I am a big believer in overbuilding a bit. i know of a few buildings that are not that old that insisted on cat 3 wire because they could save so much on install costs. 4 years later they did it all over again.

Confused about stored video
jeromephone posted a topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I have been talking with a customer about adding some IP cameras to there large analog system. My question is in reguards to stored video quality/quanity. My vendor gave me some stats on how much hddrive space a 1 meg pixel camera would use vs a analog camera basically 3 times the storage space. So if I have to compress the video to equal high quality analog 704X480 to keep my harddrive space to something reasonable am I gaining anything by going IP? This vendor was telling me about a customer adding 2 mega pixel cameras to an existing analog system which was averaging around 20 days storage and they saw the storage days drop to 4. The customer expects to see the recorded video to look like the live view, whether that is right or not that is the expectation??? -
probably is outdated software but we are near the end of our contract and everything I need to do works. Probably going to go to the droid this time but cost will determine.
-
We have not installed anything other than 50 micron in the past couple of years and it s almost always for data. I am not sure as we don't get into the switches and such much but i think it is like installing cat6 cable and using a 10/100 switch you still only get the 10/100 but if you switch hardware you can go to 1000. Again I am not sure but a lc or sc connector sized for 50 micron will work with any switch that takes sc or LC it just will only do what the switch or media converter is rated at. I have asked my suppliers this question and I would like to hear if there is a different answer. I have had the experirnce of installing the wrong connectors ie 62.5 on 50 micron fiber very costly as it took quite a while to figure what was going on.

If the guy had checked he could have found DSL extenders for under 400 bucks plus save the cost of the lawsuit and fines that are probably in his future. I don't have the code in front of me but i think it is still a violation and I bet any electrical inspector who is honest would agree, if nothing else there is not a physical seperation of data and voltage over 48 v when we do data work we always have divided raceway power poles or dedicated conduits for our stuff.
-
I agree 1000 is the standard and unless it is a special order there probably is a splice some where I would find it and make sure that is done correctly as you could lose some video if not. We have used the active/passive combo and it works well.

It all comes down to money. The labor and expense of the install are a big part of the overall cost. Also if you ever want to run data (IP Cameras) Ethernet etc you need two strands. If a single fiber fails and you have another set already terminated you may be able to plug that into your switch and keep going. Check out the fiber prices to see the differences in the various fiber counts.
-
fiber connectors are simply a matter of what inputs you have on your switches or adaptors. Make sure you get 50 micron fiber the 62.5 stuff will not support 1 gig. Hopefully your installer knows that the 50 micron stuff requires connectors that are also 50 micron. I think the 50 micron connectors are blue. I would also install some spare fibre when you do this if you need 6 strand get twelve If you leave the spares unterminated it does not add much to the cost.

Immervision
jeromephone replied to jeromephone's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
It probably is just an issue with those three components we have added a camera and went with regular lens. Had a little fooling around with settings but seems to work correctly now -
you can set up a tour or scan however that will use a lot of storage space. IF you are panning and something happens you could well pan past the incident an just get some of the info. I would go with multiple fixed as they will always be covering the same spot. Also ptz are usually more maint .

problems with upgrading from 7.5 to 8.34 - help please.
jeromephone replied to Almog's topic in Geovision
you should run the geo app that tells you if your hardware is compatible with 8.34 it could be you have older hardware that can only be upgraded to 7.5 -
did you try the password at the dvr? It might be the admin's full prevliges can only be done onsite. If it works there setup another user account for remote use

I have had mine working for about a year with no problems. Could it be your carrier is blocking something?

Best Cabling Solution for a Hotel
jeromephone replied to missmimi's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
it probably comes down to cost, If you can get a data switch on every floor or maybe every other floor you could tie those together with fiber and the run cat 6 to the cameras as they will need to be fed by POE THis will give you plenty of bandwith especally if you run seperate strands to each floor. Your big expense will be in the switches and terminating the fiber. -

I have a bid coming up which will have 28 outdoor IP cameras I would like to go the self contained route as running power for heater blower will jack up the price a lot. I have used the acti bullet but not enough to know how they hold up. Has anyone have experence with vivotek or any other mfg. specks do not call out the need for megipixel.
-
I would just buy one of each camera and test them side by side the worst case is you would have a spare camera sitting around. To me there is nothing like having two cameras looking at the same picture with the same lighting etc. we have not purchased too many fixed focus cameras lately it just seems that the customer wants just a little tweaking and the varifocal give you some options.

look at handi AVI or pixel smart. There is also a program called movie salsa that works.

Caution when buying from Surveillance-Video.com
jeromephone replied to SpyGuy10's topic in Security Cameras
This is why I try to purchase through the larger distrubition. If I have a problem they usually have a rma plan in place and you just fill out the paperwork and you are done. Sometimes you get a deal but sometimes the fun begins. -
excessive hardrive usage on a geo gv-800
jeromephone posted a topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
I have a gv-800 16 cam system that seems to be eating up way too much harddrive space 70 gig in less than 24 hrs I have the resolution at 240X480 6 frames max smart recording motion recording no audio. It is a busy location but during the evening the traffic slows way down. I have erased old files run db repair etc. Max file size is one minute. also running geo mpeg4 for compression. customer is willing to go with bigger storage but I already have about 700gig with two 250 hd and a usb 250 gig external drive
