Do we need armoured cable for CCTV?
jeromephone replied to missmimi's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
I agree with ilk even in conduit you will get moisture and regular cable will soon fail. Direct bury is what we use as it will hold up even if the conduit gets water in it. -
I had problems with the lowest end product ezdvr8 but the higher end stuff seems to work fine.

Designing wireless systems
jeromephone replied to Ted's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Pm me if you like we have done some similar systems and have had all the possible problems. Most are avoidable. I agree with the other posters you need industrial/mil grade stuff we have used proxim which is expensive but once setup is rock solid. figure in a site survey as you can have a whole lot of fun if you run into interference from other devices. For cameras we used panasonic ptzs which have run without problems for three years. -
Vitek is advertising a HD camera that is not a network camera supposed to run over coax anyone seen one or no anything about them part number VTD-HD2812

New type of BNC connectors
jeromephone replied to CCTV_Suppliers's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Look at the ICM corp website I have used these and we pretty much don't use any thing else on Rg-59 and 6. They are cheaper than the two piece bnc connectors we were using. been using for about a year with fo failures. Kit is a little costly but I think it is worth it -
Are These Costs Excessive?
jeromephone replied to MiamiRob's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
You mentioned KEYSCAN we have used them for some big projects and the company, product and software are great. The system allows multiple users to be logged in you can give your security people the ability to open or lock doors remotly. there are many features but the best is there tech support. In some cases I would look into door hardware that has a supervised strike. This will indicate that the strike is in place in case someone tapes the strike back and closes the door with a regluar door position switch. -
We have been experiencing problems with several geo systems and several makes of ptz cameras we set them up on gv-net either cards or the external box and they work fine for a while then we lose control of the camera we have replaced the gv nets and checked addresses protocols etc but nothing seems to work. The strange thing is these cameras will work with a keyboard controller. Some of the ptzs are bosch and others are generic cams set to pelco P protocol. we have even replaced all the control wire back to the server video pic is fine. Any help would be appreciated.

I am trying to burn a CD using viewlog that I open via contol center. everything appears ok but when I complete the cd creation I get a whole bunch of files that appear to be system files from control center. I do not get the video files that I selected. I don't get the viewlog exe file either

make sure you don't parallel live wires withing a foot. be sure to not lay any cable on floresent fixtures. All your wire should be supported, that is not just draped on a suspended ceiling. The baluns should work we are pushing multiple cameras on cat5 over 450' with no problems both baluns are passive. and as usual check you connections. Make sure you are using just one pair out of the cat 5 or 6 if you double up the pairs for video you can create interference.

Cat5/ Cat6 connector to Dvr pin
jeromephone replied to mr ngoma's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
the units you show on the page just require one pair I would use the white/blue and blue/white pair be sure that the wires are connected the same way on both ends if the left one is white/blue it should be the same on the other end -
Maybe a dumb question, but with all the big numbers being thrown out how much would it cost to erect a couple of towers and bring power to them to cut down the distance? It may be cheaper in the long run as then you could use some standard stuff.

Cat5E cable concern over contractor installation
jeromephone replied to tdrinkwater's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
if they punched the cat5 on a 66 block it will make a better connection, if they wire nutted it they are going to have problems. The best thing to do would be to find( i don't know if they make it or not) Indoor outdoor/plenum and make one solid run. The problem is that usually outdoor cable has to be terminated within 50 feet of where it enters the build if it is not plenum rated. Did they provide any kind of surge/ lightening protection? What does local code call for? Also why not cat 6 ? -
anyone done one? I have a customer who may want to venture into 4-6 lcd monitors and have security cams and other video feeds to this monitoring station. i envision running geo cms on two to three large screens and then use one or two screens for things like boiler monitoring screen cable and maybe some kind of alarm panel indicatior. cost is a factor I have looked at orion monitors but don't know about the control software/computer etc. I see matrox has an eight output card that runs around 2 grand but I have had no experence in settting something like this up.

I am sending 2 of my employees this year. Hopefully there will be no bail money involved. With the economy and such I am sending them for flight an hotel for about what I paid for myself last year. I think it is important for some of the other guys to get a handle on what is out there.

Rolling faint horizontal lines on Public View Monitors HELP!
jeromephone replied to JScalise7's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
I would for sure check out the ground loop problem. Make sure all racks and equipment are grounded. Also try to check each unit one at a time are you using isolated power supplies for cameras? I think you mentioned floresent lighting? I have had to change the refresh rate on computer monitors from 60 to 75 as they were somehow sync with the lights. It made the monitor look like it had problems but really it was the light in combo with the monitor. I guess a good example would be watch a tv news program when the tv camera shows a tv in a house you usually don't see a picture just a horizontal line rolliing. -
Looking for some cable clips
jeromephone replied to rory's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Look up caddy fasteners they have a lot of cable support items which are for data and 110 they may have something that you can make work. It not like what you are showing but they do provide some nice ways to organize cable. -
Cable management Wall Plate
jeromephone replied to blake's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
we run raceway all the time. Whateveer brand you use standardize as all the little fittings will mess you up as color size etc vary from one to the other brands. Cardinal rule of raceway if it has an adhesive back be sure to screw it to the wall. The glue will let go in a couple of years and the install will look like crap. The stuff is fairly expensive so we always show it as a line item when quoting. -
BNC Connectors - Screw-on vs Crimp-on
jeromephone replied to jimbo's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
No we use a regular data jack Panduit part CJ688TGOR they make a line of jack and connectors called IndustrialNet that have weather/oil resitance fittings should work well for CCTV. Biscur boxes are fine for POTS lines but we typically only use the 4 wire versions. -

BNC Connectors - Screw-on vs Crimp-on
jeromephone replied to jimbo's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
we do a lot of cat 6 cable installs and we try to avoid at all costs putting on plugs. We prefer to install a jack and use a patch cord. If you look in Panduit and Levitron books you will see some weather proof/industrial jacks etc. When we do cable we have switched to the ICMoore connectors they have a kit and their BNCs are priced pretty well. I don't use twist ons but have run into some that were sealed with epoxy they stayed in place for several years but you cut them off rather than try to reuse them. -

We have some servers that the customer has requested we delete several months video. I started the process using the backup delete from the video log screen and it ran almost 6 hrs. Is there a faster way to get rid of the old files without corrupting the data base. I know I could have quick formatted the discs but that wipes out the current data they want to keep. I am working on a 16 cam 800 and I had about 800 gig to delete. Also when the delete is complete is the app supposed to close on its own?

has anyone used this in a day/night application like overlooking a parking lot. I have to do a demo soon and want to mount this camera alongside of a sanyo 4000 and see what does the best.
