How to connect more than 32 cctv cameras to dvr
jeromephone replied to shabxs's topic in Digital Video Recorders
you could run some of the cameras into a multiplexer and have that devices output go to one of the camera inputs on the dvr. they would be smaller pictures and playback would be of all the cameras on that input. It might work if you had a couple of cameras that were not real important. I would not go any bigger than a quad splitter. -
I am watching to see Hans and Jamar and Horst win medals in such nailbiters as cross county skiing and curling.

Hosted access control
jeromephone replied to thewireguys's topic in General Access Control Discussion
I guess you mean a system that uses a PC or server to manage users etc. We have been using Keyscan but many of the server based products have the same capabilities Central mgmt when you have many users it is vital to have the ability to add delete etc and have this info sent out to all panels. Reports you can have reports generated and sent to dept heads etc. remote locking and unlocking of doors. backup of data the system we use has all the info at the panels so if the network goes down the doors continue to operate fine. When the network is restored then the data is sent back to server. If you have access via internet you can manage the system for the customer. additional $$ -
As somebody posted before the big deal it how the fire marshall looks at it. They will have the final say. Some places not only require a tie to the fire panel but two means of releasing the door a button and a motion detector. It might be cheaper to replace the door so you can have some type of mechanical release.

I have a customer who wants to do a sort of homebrew POS take the video output to the screen on his cash register system (appears to be VGA) and covert it to baseband which will feed to a camera slot on a geo vision. He is willing to spring for a 32 cam system and we think that with a camera looking at the cash register area he will be able to tell what has been rung up. Anyone tried this? The vga to baseband converter is a lot cheaper that a POS overlay. Thanks

it is a future systems POS I did not take the cable out but it looks like vga it is also touch screen but it looks like there is mini din plug seperate from the vga? feed.

I am trying to figure out about recording in high def. if i record to geovision or similiar am I going to have a high def image that I can blow up or is it going to look like regular video from a standard camera that starts to fall apart at about 3x? Is my only true hd the live view. I know there has to be some compresson but I do I need a whole new generation of DVR? I have a customer who may spring for Mega pixel cameras but won't if the playback is not near HD quality.

Experience with IP server

Look at a blue net it is easy to setup lets you use a regular camera and has the ability to add ddyns right to the video server. -
Whats a good camera to go in Club/Bar application?
jeromephone replied to EFEZY's topic in System Design
As importantly I would look at tying the POS System to the cameras system (text overlay). I have a low light color camera from USAG that we are trying in our shop for this very application it is a bullet an seems to have color at very low light levels. I have not tried it in the field. I have a speco intensifer and do not reccommend it -
Play with the FPS settings and when you save video save it via the backup system. That will save the orginal file install the player and give you a better picture. I have had problems with the AVI files in the past as not all pcs have the same media players.

Can you put me in the installers group. -
once you connect via IP you just click on hostname and you never have to enter IP again. Why is this a problem. I was once told that center is a better way to connect if one is going to connect over the internet but I have not used that product.

We are installing almost 100% cat 6 for data these days with the new standards for greater bandwith If I were running a spare or using baluns I would only run cat 6 some brands are 23 gauge although I don;t know if that makes any difference. As far as running cat5 for power unless it is POE it just does not seem professional when 16 or 18 gauge will work. We run a lot of 16 gauge for speaker wire, power for doors and cameras. We may be overkill on some stuff but there is a savings to only stocking one size of single pair wire.

Power/Wiring question
jeromephone replied to Tiribulus's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I would just get a couple of cheap wall warts and a power strip then when you have a problem it probably won't be from too much power draw from the dvr. plus the seperate wall warts will isolate the cameras from each other so ground loop problems will be lessened. -
We have tried several DVRS and they all seem to have only one small fan and/or that fan is noisy> I have tried Avermedia speco and several generic ones. I would like something that would allow multiple fans or at least a larger fan. when we do a geo we usually put in a min of 4 fans

I will try the attachment again

This would be funny but my guys managed to pull this off at my biggest customer. maybe they missed the fire rated wall sign? maybe they wanted to do additonal work as the pass through was only 2 feet away. So they chose option one of breaching the fire wall and not caulking sleeving etc. The fire marshall and the construction supt were not happy and I rightly so got chewed up and spit out.

get solid copper center 95% copper shield (braid) Rg-59 we have also used RG-6 quad shield. unless you are running long distance more than 800 ft either will work. we usually run siamese rg 59 for most installs. Sometimes the 59 is more expensive than the six as less single 59 is sold these days.

Stapler / Tacker for siamese RG59/U 18/2 cable
jeromephone replied to melisandeneowald's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
I always use zip ties and a base. If you ever have to get at the cable or add another it makes a difference. If you do staple through the wire it may be a project finding the short or open. We do not even staple phone wire. data never -
For me the number of total cameras is less of an issue that the number of different types of cameras a unit can handle. Why can't I mix canon, sony, actii, axis on the same server? i know many system allow a lot of cameras but everything else I plug into my network does not care what mfg it came from as long as it has a unique mac the network sees it.

H1N1 Question: Paper towels verses hand dryers
jeromephone replied to scorpion's topic in Test Bench
Fact of life there are bacteria, germs and people who are not real clean. I think a lot has to do with your age immune system etc. I worked on a garbage truck for 12 years before the parinoia about blood born pathongens, Other than normal preautions (wore gloves) never sick one day. I am not going to go through life worried about the latest scare. I went to Egypt several years ago the conditons parts of it were really dirty drainage canels full of garbage etc. However it was also the most interesting place I had ever been. ( Did not drink the water except bottled) If I had been afraid of the germs I would have missed an experience of a lifetime. (My rant sorry) -
Microphone installation and cabling
jeromephone replied to silg's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
I would run a seperate microphone cable whatever is speced by mfg. Two years from now when someone goes to check it out they won't have to figure what cable is the mike or power. Costs can;t be that much different. -
the dome camera install pix. If they had just used 8 inches of reaceway you never would have looked for the mess on the other side. I don't know how many times just a little extra effort and minimual cost makes the job go from total mess to professional looking. We just did a wiring job that was perfect except for 5 wires running at a diagonal across the patch panel. (we fixed it) however what does the customer see not the whole job the one screwup. Teck fixed that on his own time.

Telephone wire to power 12V cameras?
jeromephone replied to stuspick's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
I have to agree with rory. Why cheap out the job? If you run siamese you will save something on labor not to mention it is eaiser to hook up single 18 ga and keep the polarity correct than messing with phone wire. Just about anything will get the volatage to the camera but does it look professional?
