** Simple Pocket knives will become illegal. **
jeromephone replied to scorpion's topic in Test Bench
You have to wonder what this costs to come up with let alone enforce. We have been under this stupid color code for terror attacks I am sure this costs several million dollars to come up with. What exactly am I supposed to do at the various color levels anyway. I check for bombs under my truck every morning and walk a zig zag path everywhere I go. It must be working no attacks so far. Now I have another threat to deal with, pocket knives I will really be mad if some terriost gets me with a swiss army knife an not a big old explosion of some type. I probably wont even make the front page of the local paper. -
We have used that cable and have had no problems with it. I don't know what the differences are but we made sure that it had a solid copper core and it has.

I think that it would be helpful to have some discussion on various ard formats and what each is used for also what other areas can you use the RFID tech. It would be great to be able to sell an access system that also was your card to open your computer or use the same hardware software for asset tracking etc.

How to wire a 24VAC transformer to power multiple cameras
jeromephone replied to tegatdavis's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
anybody concerned about the UL rating? I think the box on the power supplies altronix is a big part of the UL sticker. Not an electrician just asking -
i have been having similiar problems. Check your computer memory we are finding some memory does not work well i.e. system hangs after so many hours but we can never find any other cause

your best bet is to get with the elevator people and see what they have avaliable in the traveler cable as someone else has already suggested. usually they have at least 2 to 4 pair for the emergency phone most emergency phones now only need one pair to operate. If you can use any existing cable you will lower your cost and have a much more consistent picture. Make sure you use a good camera as a lot of elevators go dark when not in use and the door opening and light coming on sometimes blinds the cam for a few seconds.

We are having a problem with a 32 camera geovision system that will randomly lock up we have no windows error message but the geo program is locked up and we have to reboot. I did get an error on the geo system log "Record error DMIPC_fatal_er one time. That error has not shown up again. Hardware appears to be compliant with what geo reccommends. Anyone else having similiar problems?? Thanks

i had a couple of computers set up with remote viewing through the webserver . The systems had 7.05 thru 8.1. Now that I have 8.2 on a couple of servers it seems if I log into on of those and try to add the old systems as additional hosts It will not let me add them to the host list. I can still get into all the older servers but cannont go from on to the other. The same login accounts are on all servers.

I would think so too but I cannot get the poe to work on regular utp. I have used this switch with other devices that work fine with UTP. -

I finally got the camera in and have been playing with it. Will post some pics this week. First impressions A bit larger than a standard box camera so outdoor housing would have to be larger than normal. POE requires shielded cat5 this to me is a major drawback as most imbedded cat5/6 is unshielded. directions for downloading from sd card very poor spent a couple of hours and messing around had to load several patches and codex. Camera seems to have great images during the day. Night vision shots have more snow than a regular high quality analog day/night. WIll be checking to see what NVRS support. Zoom works well -
I did a simliar system for a city they just wanted to cover a couple of blocks to start. Mesh is the way to go and I would look at 4.9 stuff as it is public safety band. We do have some 900 mhz in one location which works well but ou should use a filter as there are a lot of devices using 900. We used proxim which is quite pricey and they were not at the ISC West show this year so I don't know what that is all about. We are using Milestone for the NVR stuff and do have the NVR at dispatch in the PD. Panosonic PTZ on the street. I can send you some photos of what the poles look like with equipment on them. Hidden costs 110 power to locations, cost of setting poles, site survey (would have saved us much time and money) range of wireless access points is very effected by environmental factors trees, buildings etc usually means more points than you orginally planned on.

So what did anyone think about this years show
jeromephone posted a topic in Trade Shows & Conferences
My impressions a lot more penny slot machines than I ever saw before cheap room rates high food and bev prices smaller crowds and number of vendors HD the new hype along with IP Would like to own some of the video wall stuff for a sales tool. Too many vendors did not have enough people with a command of the english language to be really helpful. I know that sounds a bit redneckish but I really felt like I was wasting my time at some booths as they only wanted to scan my badge and could not answer anything. I did not keep good notes and could not relocate some booths I wanted to revisit. Slipping a bit I guess I liked the Axis hd cameras. I want the big pano flat screen. I also looked at attached storage from a couple of vendors I think extra storage is in our future as everyone wants more days saved at higher quality. -

I hope I did not offend anyone I am the worst with languages. I can appreciate the difficulty as my daughter is fluent in spanish and when we visit friends out of the country I am totally intiniminated. I would not even be able to make an attempt in another language so again I apologize -
IP video with sound for classroom
jeromephone replied to jimmyNJ's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
we have use the loure sytem with analog cameras and a geovison you can get intface for the dvr Nvr from them. The main problem we have had is the ideal point for the camera and the ideal place for the microphone are not always the same -
4 channel video over UTP balun + which company cable?
jeromephone replied to herictopia's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Go with a name brand. One of my wire dist told me that a lot of UL listed cable was bogus They get a reel or two tested put the seal on and then sell whatever they want. Best way we have found are pull boxes no reel to mess with and they have few tangles. I am talking general, bertek or belden. Saving twenty dollars on wire will come back to haunt you. Some of the offshore siamese has 22 ga wire for power instead of 18 ga stranded copper. CAT5E or Cat 6 CAT5e is a lower grade cable and is what you are seeing showing up on ebay etc. -
plus they have the Lions

I am running the latest version of control center but do not know what versions of geovision software the clients need to have. It works with my dvrs that are 8.2 but I cannot tell for sure how far backward it will go. I have some systems on 7.05 ( All systems are on the same Wan) Thanks

Amen to the Louroe.

If you are using cat 5 or 6 you can certifiy it with a fluke or we have a tester made by testum that has software for room layouts as well as the ability to download to PC it is only 1500 and I like it better than our 4000.00 microtester. Keep in mind that if your runs are longer than 300 ft you will get a failure as the tester assumes you are using ethernet this tester will do coax but just gives wire map test of that.

We ran into this and were able to get a protocol changer that turned the bosch to pelco and then we controlled with the geo vision. I will try and remember who made it I think they were out of MI and it was around 150.00 or so.

I think viking electronics has some simple entry systems that use existing phone wiring to ring up the apt and then let the resident press a button on their regular old analog phone to let the visitor in. You might have to supply analog phones as many are going to all cell these days but you are only looking at 30 bucks or so.

I look at the remote video as a convience and am usually counting on the video recorded on the server as the best possible if I have to look at any detail. We have had some audio problems and mostly it was due to the microphones being set with too much gain. It is best if you can set up the audio in your shop and test it there as we have had to try a bunch of different settings etc. Louroue makes a microphone/ preamp/power supply specifically for dvrs it more expensive than a simple hi gain mircophone but it works.
