telephone/intercom with a AS200 controller
jeromephone replied to sfjensen's topic in General Access Control Discussion
We install phone systems and have used a doorbox which is in effect a ext off the phone switch You can then program a controller to release the door/gate using either a viking product or a relay board from the phone mfg. The nice thing about that setup is you can setup any ext or multiple ext to answer or open the door/gate. -
We have a couple of door cameras in an apt complex they are using a couple of unused channels to provide a view from the apts to the doors. As people are getting there new digital boxes thy can no longer see these channels. Is there a new type of modulator avaliable? I can change cameras if necessary but I am at a loss as how to utilize the unused channels after the digital transistion is complete.

Problem with CCTV camera
jeromephone replied to wag81wag81's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Not to be too harsh but you probably got burned by some really cheap equipment. I would like to hear if you get any help from the seller. I have been burned twice on ebay and will not be doing anymore business there. -
Will this LCD monitor work?
jeromephone replied to Erock509's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Check PI MFg they have a fairly inexpensive monitor with bnc and vga inputs. With everyone price consious these days we have had to go with the less than ideal monitors but as been said over and over you get what you pay for. -
Av to VGA converter Problems
jeromephone replied to jameskap's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
We just went through the same thing and we were using LG monitors. The video converter does make a big difference we looked at three differnt ones side by side and you can see the difference. We did not have any problems with the monitors not staying on once we hooked up the converters. -
definition of Mega pixel camera
jeromephone posted a topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
This may have been covered before but I am confused on what makes a megapixel camera and what a Analog camera with a network connection We were talking about the actii 1431 I thought it was megapixel and actually found an ad that calls it a 1.3 megapixel camera but the actual manual does not reference mega pixel at all. I also have seen someplace that the lens quality is at least as important as the number of megapixels -
Honest thoughts on ACTi cameras?
jeromephone replied to Bungle's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
ACM 1431 you are right it says composite output on the spec sheet. So it would be like the bosch cams we have used an analog device with an ethernet/poe connection. -
Honest thoughts on ACTi cameras?
jeromephone replied to Bungle's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
We have a weatherproof bullet in our garage day night infrared and I have it on and off for the last few days no problems temps well below freezing when the night mode kicks in it is a little noiser than a regular day night but very acceptable also the color images are very sharp. Am hoping to get it mounted outside this week I like the POE as that makes the install easier. -
Selecting the Altronix power supply for 16 sony cams
jeromephone replied to jsingh's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
the altronics web site give you all the output data etc we have used the standard fuse protected supplies in many locations. I would reccommend the isolated 24 volt models. If you have a ground loop or problem you only have it on one camera. we are also running a seperate ground for all our power supplies. -
has anyone used these we have a ezdvr 4 but have little experience with the units. I have a customer who wants to do 8 locations and remote is not an issue. I liked the just setting the record time feature but would appreciate any feedback thanks

Another Fiber Question/PTZ Over Fiber?
jeromephone replied to 3RDIGLBL's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
how mqny fibers to each location ? if you have 2 pair to each you could run the control seperat from the image. would be costly however -
Poor picture quailty? Or is that what I get with this equip
jeromephone replied to Lucashugh82's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
We Never use a splitters we use a cheap 1 in 2 out amp or loop through a monitor or sometimes a quad. Look in PI MFg website or any place the sells cctv and you will find either the one in two out or one in 4 out amps. Your RG-59 is not the problem we have run it 500 ft or more and the pictures are fine. -
I don't picture the wife saying "lets put this in the living room" Then again you could get rid of all your lava lamps if you had this baby.

Use Exisiting Infrastructure or Pull New Network?
jeromephone replied to TK's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
If you can keep the cameras on a seperate network it is best. A lot of times you will have spare data drops that can be patched to seperate switchs etc. Then only run new cable where necessary. A lot of stuff is going on the network and QOS problems are bound to come up. If you have a seperate network you can tweak your own equipment without having to involve IT as much. -
converting two locations to IP based
jeromephone posted a topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I have a customer who wants to "overhaul" their security to monitor all locations from a central location. We presently have geovision servers with about 10 cameras each on them. I know they can view the servers via the network but I am thinking about putting perhaps Axis video servers and sending the video via IP to them and looping back to the local units. Replaceing all the analog cameras with IP is not a possibility. I think they are using Milestone at their headquarters. Are their any other video servers that I should check out to do this same thing? -
cable quesion and balun question
jeromephone replied to f05bf1c2's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
If the code allows running fiber in the same conduit it still should not be done. We run a aromored fiber and in all our installs a seperation from hi voltage is specified. You can buy baluns from any number of mfg so I would not mess with ebay. If running underground even in conduit use an outdoor rated cat5 conduits will get moisture in them and you will have your cable sitting in water in a few months. -
We are using a couple of vivotek 6112s for a distance learning setup. cameras will work fine for that app as long as you take the time to train the users a bit. we are putting a small monitor on one end so the teacher can see what the student is seeing on his end. A couple of things will make this install easier. Use a router that has ddyns option built in and use that ddyns instead of at the camera. Some of the remote viewing is browser specific so you need to be aware of that also.

We installed a new PTZ cam and did not realize that there was another PTZ on the same server. One is D and the other is P. It may be a major hassel to change the settings on the camera. can I run a 2nd GV net and run the second protcol or do I have to put them both on the same Protocol? Thanks

what cable to use on farm?
jeromephone replied to f05bf1c2's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
depending on what size of conduit it really would not make much difference I would probably run multple runs of cat5 direct bury as that will give you some spares and the baluns are not that much whatever you run make sure it is underground rated as even if you have it in conduit the couduit will get moisture in it and you may soon have problems.
