    What would you choose?

I think the main thing is to keep an open mind. If fiber is avaliable us it if you have to do part of the project with wireless and part with hardwired tec look into the hybrid type of solution. we are looking at adding some cameras to a system and we are encouraging the customer to wait as they are planning on running a fiber backbone down the street in the next year.

    plastic film

I have started carrying a roll of the plastic film that clings to itself like you would use to bind boxes together on a pallet. When we take a camera down for repair we wrap the lens or dome with this stuff and then wrap the whole camera connectors cords etc in one bundle it protects the camera from being damaged in the truck and keeps all the little parts together.
  3. I have had similar problems with the Altronix power supplies. I either power up using seperate power supplies for small jobs or go to the isolated power supply altronics offers. We are now also putting a seperate ground on the power supply cases.

    Super Cool Magnetic Puller

I have one of the pullers and it does work well. We always carry a length of lightweight chain which we can tie a piece of nylon chaulk line. drill your hole drop the chain in and you can work the chain up and down. We have not shorted out any electrical yet and if the chain get hopelessley hung up. Well that has not happened yet.

    AXIS 241S video server

I guess It is kind of stupid but I will reply to my own post. The key is to set the generic Pelco to pelco D as that is all the Axis supports. It took a bit of resetting camera and server but it now does function.
  6. I am trying to control a generic dome camera using this video server I have set the camera up for pelco p 9600 etc and it works fine with a remote and with a keyboard controlller. I hook up to the 485 ports on the axis and no control I have downloaded there pelco driver, and tried various protocal and baud rates with no luck. I have tried using different camera addresses and still no response I am getting a picture through the web interface and the software seems to be responding as per the manual. Any ideas or am I going to have to buy another Cam ?
  7. Anyone have a used controller for this camera ? part # CP-ITV-D300 Thanks
  8. I had a server crash that was running win2000 I had to reinstall win 2000 operating system and now when I go to try and reinstall the geo card and software the system promps me for a usb key. I never had a key and I even tried to run ver 7 and it just keeps rebooting the system over and over. I checked device mgr and I seem to have no conflicts or yellow lights. This is a system that is completly legit windows license genuine geo etc. I have taken the card out and uninstalled via the geo uninstall and through windows but I still can not get rid of some of the geo files any suggestions? Other that telling the customer his server is fried and he needs a new one

    CCTV Operator Training Material needed

The best training manuals and courses are the ones you write yourself. It forces you to establish what you want done and how you want it done. It also allows you to tailor the course for your customer. I have not done a lot of training but every customer has different needs and skill levels. A standard course is great for a reference but the customer needs to know how to handle his setup.

    Concrete Bores are hateful!

We have our fun with concret on a fairly regular basis Our bigger dirill are milwaulkees and use a sks type bit. You can also get a core bore bits for them. Depending on model probably around 800.00 ea I Have heard good things about the Hilti line of drills Get the best concrete hammerdrill bits you can find. More money but more work gets done. You can get the ones rated for masonary but they are designed for plaster or something softer than brick or concret. we use tapcons a lot for mounting cameras as they take a smaller hole in the concrete and the tapcon is actually cutting threads into the wall. Use the correct size drill bit for the tapcon or they will not hold correctly. saftey glasses and hearing protection

    problems with GV-Net

I am having problems with a couple of systems using the GV-net both the older version that connected to a serial port and the new version that uses a usb port. Both cameras are using pelco P and work fine with a keyboard controller. I have had these cameras running with the GV net for almost a year and now they won't respond I have changed out the gv-net boxes checked device mananger and made sure my camera addresses were correct. software is 8.1 on one machine and 7.5 on another. Are there any updates or patches that I shoud be looking at?
  13. I was fortunate to be able to go the Reading last week for a little R and R as my daughter was working over there. On the streets they had some large dome enclosures with 4 PTZ cams in one housing Does anyone know who makes these units and any specks? I also noted that the license plate capture should be easier as all cars have front and rear plates and 3 inch block black letters and numbers.

lack of a good geo advertising handout

Maybe I missed it but does geo put out a pdf? A couple of pages that give a good product discription would be very usefull. They used to have a booklet but that really did not lend itself well to printing out as part of a proposal. We have a laser color printer and like to just print out PDFs as they tend to be up to date. A lot of our suppliers, cameras etc let you go to the website and print up whatever is needed.

    Ceiling Install

caddy fasteners makes a ceiling grid bar that clips onto the grid and you can hang the camera from that.

HOW DO I STOP hardbeat from MOVING

    they probably have already reproduced
  17. If you are extending with the patton or other extenders you are actually sending the signal over a dsl circute so the 300ft limit does not apply you are converting the ethernet to dsl and then back to ethernet. I have used these types of extenders and run 1800 ft with no problem.
  18. what version of Vista is best to use with geo? I would not want to shell out for ultimate if something less expensive is workable. Or is it better to set it back to XP?

    Ease of use for customer

I am starting to see the main selling point to the customer is ease of use. They really don't care about tech specks so much as they do how do I playback and incident? How o I give a copy to the police? We have put inn a couple of the csi/speco dvrs, and found them to be more end user friendly than some units we installed even a couple of months ago. We have an EZR4 in our shop and we just set the amount of hours we want and let it run. Just using that unit as a trial. We are not pushing cd burners as the price of 2-4 gig zip drives has gone down so much we are encouraging the to use those as their backup device. I guess my question is are others seeing this same trend and do you have a user friendly units you like. I am a small shop and want to carry one brand of stand-alone so the tecks don't have to learn a whole bunch of different systems.

    jerky playback

I know i brought this up before and tried the fixes reccommened customer has 16 cam gv-800 system and when I playback video it appears to drop frames. all cameras are set to smart with a 9 frame per sec limit. I have tried setting the limit higher but still see the problem. The unit is in a parking structrue and it happens even when only a couple of cameras are active. I have checked to make sure no Audio is activated. DVR meets speck for video card type memory etc.

    IP panel-free access control

I did not know that you could run that much power from a poe system. Does anyone know if you can run like a double latch retraction device with POE?
  22. consider using plenum cable as this is a welding shop and that may be a requirment. either coax or cat5/6 comes in plenum but be sure and get pricing first as it is very expensive

    Infrared Lightning

my limited experience with iR cameras and Iilluminators is they don't really have the range as advertised. We have quite a few vitek ir cameras and although they say 80 feet the real range seems to be about 40 ft. The light may go 80 but to view an object clearly it is much closer than that. I would purchase from a know supplier rather than Ebay personal opinion only.

    Bosch LTC 0455 Repair

We purchased that same camera from ADI and had a couple of problems We sent them back to ADI and they handled the repairs Via BOsch I always have them call me first before they do repairs as I don't want to have more in a repaired camera than a new one. Is that tech looking for a job?
