I have used the usb to serial adaptors (around $20.00 with software) they work fine. The only problem I had was remembering that mine defaulted to com 4.

We just got our first acess control project awarded and I am a probably in over my head. We will be using keyscan units and they seem fairly easy to figure out any know gotchas? Also we have been looking at the bundled access control wire. It seems pretty costly (plenum) does the labor saving offset this or am I better to just run individual cables. It looks like running the bundled cable will leave some unused pairs Thanks

Recommendations for mobile DVR system?
jeromephone replied to brindlefly's topic in Digital Video Recorders
another pilot ! I have done a little fooling around taking pics from the plane and I think you would have to bank around and try and get a snap shot otherwise all you will get is the tops of cars do you have a camera port on the plane? The problem will probably not be what type of recording device you use but how and where to mount cameras and how low you may have to go to get a good ID shooting around the wing also enters into it. -
are you talking about snap and seal when you are talking about compression fittings I looked at snap and seal and it was about 5.00 per connector. We have been having problems with 2 piece bnc crimps and would like to go to something more foolproof

excessive hardrive usage on a geo gv-800
jeromephone replied to jeromephone's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
i have make some of the adjustments to the cameras as were suggested and will report back on how this helped with the space problem. What I discovered was that the traffic flow through this area is such that a persone walking in the door, checking in and sitting down will trip about 8 cameras. In the future I need to look at traffic flows when estimating hd space. -
I have a customer who has a fixed camera and would like to convert to a ptz no problem with local power but it is a long underground coax run. Can anyone reccommend a control over coax solution. Have not quoted a specific camera yet and would like to control via geovision if possible Thanks

I just upgraded a gv-800 to version 6.05 the unit is about 3 years old everything appears to be ok but on video playback I get the clips freezing up and then the subject will disappear. the seconds continue to count down but their is no action or the subject is frozen in place. I changed the record settings to smart max of 6 frames and quality 4 also set system to record master. image size is 240X320. I also set a pre record and postrecord of a couple of seconds. I just made these changes this eve so I don't know if they helped.

Saw something in PoP Science discover or some mag like that where a guy took a WWII Areial camera and converted into a digital still cam he had the highest res camera around he could see individual blades of grass at 1 mile.

would some type of collar with multiple thermal sensors work. you could log all the readings and show them on a "map" It might be possible to make such a device out of foam so wearing it would not be too bad may have to have a single multi pair wire attached or even rig up wireless to a recording device.

We have used some single channel dvrs in schoolbuses and they are pretty reliable and rugged. These units have removable harddrives and only get pulled when they want to view and incident.

I have a couple of gv800s and all cameras appear too dark on the default settings. If i adjust the gain it brightens them up. the system seems to work OK I just wiped it clean and put 6.05 on it as these systems are 3 years old. Does anyone have any ideas if it is a camera problem or a geo problem. Using central power supply Altronix and that seems ok also. same problem on both inside and outside cameras. 12 v system

thanks for your help everyone. It turns out the majority of the problem was in the monitor. I have just reformatted the servers and upgraded to 6.05 these were 5.4. I think playing with settings and replacing the monitor will solve most of the problems thanks again

Just a follow up on my earlier post. I have installed a PTZ and the bluenet for a customer's construction project. Not exactly security but they love it and are using it for everything from supervision to conference calls with the contractor. They have already ordered another setup. I don't represent Bluenet but this type of setup fits in well with our cctv business.

I will try and get some screenshots tomorrow along with the camera model#

I just got a new geo system ver 7 for a customer and I thought the interface was supposed to be changed I see the eyes are gone but can you change the greenish color of the mask or is that in the next update. I even read the manual and could not find anything on changing the appearance. I do have the earlier post on how to home brew your own changes. thanks

32 camera DVR
jeromephone replied to jeromephone's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Thanks for the help I guess I should have worded my question differently I can find several 32 cam systems but am trying to avoid being burned by the people who put more into their website than their product. -
I have had that porblem and I ended up changing out the cables. On a couple just moving the wire would make it lose connection. I also had a bad connectoron the incoming coax that appeared to be a problem with the geo cables. It would be nice if they made them with a little bigger wire. It is hard to make the connections and have a neat appearing bundle.

Had a strange problem today Had a dome camera that appeared to be burned out when I put a local power supply on it it worked fine the problem appears to be interference with the power not the video signal. Running 12vdc siamese cable and voltage at camera appears fine. am going to run power over a seperate shieled cable. This install has been running fine for two years. any ideas what caused this?
-
cable run was 184 feet using siamese no voltage loss at camera and plugged camera in with seperate 2cs wire for power that was only 20 ft run. Did change out camera with a 24v ac model and had no problems still cannot find where the interference came from
