Custom POS solution needed
jeromephone replied to gcelec's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
The POS data the comes from a cash register is serial data RS-485 or similiar. so that is different than a ethernet data stream that is why the pos on your nvr does not work how is that data used now? Is their something out their that will take digiatal data and convert to analog. I know you can do that video analog to digital. -

IP Camera Display Problem

can you ping the cameras? -
the AVE box had to be set as emulating a journal printer not the epson receipt printer. Do not know if this helps as the AVE box does most of the work did you try hyperterminal to read output from cash register.

You do not need to tip us. At a resuturant usually 15 percent or so at fast food nothing. Crappy custom I would rather pay a little more for the service knowing the employee is making a fair wage.

Need guidance on server build and GPU decoding.
jeromephone replied to LostInSurveillance's topic in Geovision
I would download the vms manual from geo it spells out the specks for hardware and GPU . I am not sure but I believe VMS will not work with server grade hardware again check directly with Geovision. Also there seems to be a question if GPU works with h.264 only or if it also works with h.265. Not much of an answer I am afraid. -

Ethernet Cable in NVR
jeromephone replied to Moh333mm's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
you probably will not be able to tell the difference between cat 5, or six. the next generation of cameras and equipment may require the higher grade cable. also cat 6 is sometimes 23 ga which should have a higher current carrying ability. I would run the highest grade of cable, Solid copper not cca and keep it within length limits. I doubt that brands make any difference except that the jacket material may make the cable easier to pull or offer weather or fire resistance. -
I would look at a rental many have one way so you can rent in chi and leave it in Cal when you are done. With insurance, roadside assistance and a newer car you will probably have few if any problems. Buying a car getting ins as a non-citizen will be a problem as well as Cal has many pollution restrictions so selling an out of state car may be impossible. You have plenty of time search for a good rental deal and practise driving on the wrong side of the road

I just did a POS for topaz using ave equipment. you hook up to port 5 on the register and run cat5 to the AVE box you do have to have the topaz system port programmed correctly and will probably have to have the cash register company do that.

Need a WI-FI Camera setup - Need ideas and tips!
jeromephone replied to LordX's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
you may want to look at installing access points and plugging regular ip cameras into them we have used ubiquity for this type of network. you would install a small enclosure put in a poe switch and run your camera and access point form that location. THat way you can extend your regular network or put the cameras and APs on their own network or subnet. -
Well I am no expert on matters electrical but I have seen many cases where equipment has been ruined and other components within inches of the damaged equipment are fine even cameras sharing the same power supply. If it were me I would first look at surge protection and grounding. You could try the welding shield experiment but it would be hard to verify Did you send any cameras back to the mfg for warranty maybe they could give you a cause for failure.
-
interesting how do you determine that the light flash is the problem and not an induced voltage from lightening? either way I would install protection If you think that the flash is the problem why not get a welding helmet that does the automatic darkening thing and try it? It would be interesting to know how it works.
-
do you use POE cameras or analog. THere are several mfgs of surge protectors that will work with coax or cat 5. We have run into a job that required camera runs from outside to have entrance protection before the feed went into the switch or NVR. Keep in mind that a direct hit will take out the camera but hopefully your protection will save the building. Google CCTV lightening protection and you will see plenty of hits and price ranges.

you will have to try and find a manual to see specific settings many times there are two sets of dip switches. to set. If it does not try to find a home position when powered up the camera may be damaged the picture may still come through but the movement part may be shot.

Shopping for cameras -good shopping / feature sorting sites?
jeromephone replied to InitechWorker's topic in Security Cameras
look at some of the cctv specific sites advertised on this forum and check the synology specks to see what cameras and systems it supports. Look for a site that has tech support in house. most sites will have detailed camera specks or at least link you back to the mfg spek sheets. I do not want to name any dealers or sites but there are plenty of good ones that you can find with a little research. -
Can you give me some more details on the camera I do not find it on the geo website and need to know if it is analog. on most analog PTZ cameras there are usually a set of dip switches that set protocol address and baud rates.

connect ptz controller to dvr by rj45 qnd 2 ptz
jeromephone replied to jacknr's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
Most DVRs have a ptz controller built in. dring the camera setup you can check that option and control the camera that way with a virtual controller. the other thing is that the stand alone controller will work with both cams but you need to give each one its own address. the older analog ones i worked with were usually pelco P protocol and I think 9600 baud rate and an address set with dip switches 00 to 200 or something. -
Roof cabling for CCTV System
jeromephone replied to TCW's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
might be a case were hiring a local contractor to run it would be beswst. Anyway outdoor rated cable and depending on level or protection required conduitl I am just guessing but I would think uv resistant PVC would be better if you want long term protection. -
anybody used the new version of VMS I have read the older thread but we are in process of quoting a system that will have about 45 cameras including 4 fisheye I am a bit confused about the decoding using a GPU. I have downloaded the info on USA vision. It looks like we can get by with an I7 and 16 gig of ram but I would like to hear from somebody who has a similiar system running and what specks they installed
-
they make a specific cleaner for plastic and windex like cleaners will damage the plastic over time you are better off using plain old soap and water
-
You could also hae damaged the camera electronics as well as the dome. If it is an older camera you might be better off purchasing a new one. Direct sunlight can be hard on electronics as well as plastic.

Issue with decoder video wall (IVMS 4200- Hik Vision)
jeromephone replied to Bimalska1's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Not really up on this product but is this on a PC running the software. If so it could well be the PC needs more memory. processing power or a better video card. What are the specks of your system
