they make a cable rated for direct bury. That can be buried without conduit. Outdoor rated cable should not be buried without being installed in conduit.

It should be fine. I do not know your exact wire but looking online is see 18/2 rated at 300 v but I would look up a chart for your specific brand\mfg to be sure.

Did you check the cable to see if it has any physical damage could be the shield is contacting the steel crane frame. also if you have another camera you could attach that and see if you have the same type of problem plus check the connectors.

you could run CAT5E gel filled and use baluns that way if you ever want to switch to IP you could. I would run multiple cables as you may want to run a network or some other devices. If you choose to run coax use the filled type as any water gets into standard coax it will wick into the braid and ruin the cable.

what voltage and how much distance ? There are charts that will give you voltage drop for various wire sizes stranded vs solid and length.

So how much did you pay for this used. From what I can see online it looks like brand new ones are not that much. As I keep repeating the supplier is almost as important as the product.

blue one usually have some kind of gel in them to make them somewhat waterproof while the white ones do not.

I would see what a ethernet KVM externder would cost you could get video and the mouse in one cat five.

I would take the distance quoted for IR and image as maximum and figure that the mfg claims are likely to be a bit wrong. Keep in mind that getting license plate info is often complicated and requires special cameras and software. Check this forum for several dicussions about license plate viewing.

I do not know this camera but with a laptop you sometimes have both a wired connection and a wireless adaptor which allows 2 different IP addresses so If plugged in I use one IP address but my wireless address is different. Look at the camera software and see if you have two places to set an IP address

I would find someone with a good slr type camera with a long lens 1000 mm at least and set up a test in the outfield to see what kind of picture you will get then film with various frame rates and levels of magification. Your three megapixel camera may work for what you want but the zoom capability of your lens is going to be important also.

I would go with a higher megapixel rating and use something with a motorized lens as you will get a better picture with an optical zoom as opposed to just digital. depending on the camera you will see the picture start to distort with at 3 or 4x or less.

take a look at some trail cameras used for spotting game. they are battery operated and may cover the area you are concerned with. They are small and designed to be hidden. A couple of minutes of video may be all you need.

I am not sure if you mean a physical on off switch or what. You can set a schedule in geovision to set time of day to record and the recording method. For instance full time during business hours and motion after closing time.

look at a camera with on board recording some will allow a 64 gig chip or more. you should be able to get something with IR and that will eliminate the need for a NVR for just a couple of cameras. to view you would just login directly to the camera. To see faces at night a lot will depend on camera location and how well the IRs work.

I would check settings on the camera that is working and duplicate on the others. Make sure you save any changes as some settings are not automatically saved when you exit the menu.

I doubt you would be able to tell the difference just by changing connectors guessing the were both terminated correctly.

have you checked all the static IPs and made sure you have no duplicates and if the NVR has a auto detect function I would disable it so cameras would have to be manually added. Make sure you do not have a camera with DHCP enabled as well.

Well if I were to guess depending on the distance from the cash register i would go with a 3.5 to 9mm or in extreme cases 5-50mm

a lot of cameras allow you to lock in either day or night I would try adjusting the sensitivity so it switches at a bit darker time it appears this is ocurring at twilight and the lights may be flickering a bit.

PI has a ethernet over coax up to 1200 meters for 90.00.
