Recommendation for Equipment - CCTV over IP Network, please?
bobby1471 replied to snt's topic in Computers/Networking
First off, what is your budget? Second, what are you going to be doing with this system? i.e. in doors, outdoors etc.. These two questions will help people in order to understand what you need, price can change drastically due to these. -
If the ddns of the dvr has a way to specify where it sends the request to then it can be used for even DYDNS it's just a matter of does it really send out any information or a "here I am" message.

If the cameras are all PoE devices, and the switch is rated to handle that much power then you should have no problems sending power and data over the cat5/cat6 cable. Just make sure you verify the power consumption of the cameras, and the max per port and total on the switch.

Axis 221 won't factory reset
bobby1471 replied to TastyHuman's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
The 221 pdf I downloaded only lists one. What is the procedure for the full reset? Thanks. There is two ways to perform a factory settings default. One is the way you described with the cycle power and hold down the reset button. The other is to log into the came from a web browser and inside the Maintenance area, inside this area is an option for factory default including IP or not including IP. IF you are not the origonal owner/admin of this camera my guess is the person who had it before you performed a factory default without reseting IP and the camera would not override that until a new root password was setup. -
Let me ask a few questions. 1. What are you using to view the system over the internet? 2. What software are you recording to/ dvr? 3. Have you setup port forwarding if required?

Why pay so much for all that equipment? You can go with a Trendnet 4 Port poe switch and an outdoor rated enclosure and easily save $400 or more.

Just use 1 or 2 wireless repeaters or wireless routers in repeater mode. There are many great solutions out there that are easy to use. The only thing I would recommend checking from experience is that they have a removable anttena. This is because you need to put the anttena up as high as possible to maximize distance, so its a good idea to extend the length a few feet.

How many ports and what type of connection are you looking for? 10/100 or 10/100/1000?

Which of these would you get for indoor use?
bobby1471 replied to Livin's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Have no experience with these cameras, but based on ratings, looks, and simply the fact you want to put the camera inside, I would go with the dome style camera. Typically domes look alot better inside. I dont think you really want a outdoor bullet type camera staring you in the face all day. It will make almost anyone paranoid after a period of time. -
The easiest and cheapest way around this problem is simply get an outdoor enclosure and place a standard PoE swtich inside this box. This almost always will work, unless your in harsh areas. If your in hard condition areas your into a situation where you would consider possibly a heater/blower outdoor enclosure.

Converting analog cable into ethernet cable
bobby1471 posted a topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I am trying to look into quality solutions to convert current coax cables from analog cameras into ethernet for IP cameras using a converter of some sort. Anyone got some experience and proven results with this? -
Typically since there isn't "harsh" weather here. I tend to use a standard wireless access point in repeater mode in an outdoor enclosure. Have some that have been running for over 3 years without a problem.

Will this LCD monitor work?
bobby1471 replied to Erock509's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
If the DVR supports VGA then you have no problems should be as simple as plugging in the back just like a computer.
