What is the Bandwidth of a CCTV Camera's Video Signal?
CSG replied to Willie's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
You can run rg-59 in 1000 foot runs, i've done it before. That's why they sell coax cable in 1000' reels :^) -
The record speed for either a VCR or DVR is user settable, so it's up to the user to adjust according to their preference. But lawsuits such as this demonstrate the need for a proper contract, written by a lawyer experienced with the security industry (which I'm sure ADT is using). And in this case I don't think (from reading the article) that the accused party has standing against the alarm company.

Is Samsung Techwin and Samsung GVI 2 different companies? My guess is that the Techwins are more expensive units, but other than a nicer looking chassis what's the difference? I recently priced the "new" GE dvrme-IIcx DVR's 16 channel Wavejet 1 TB vs. Dedicated Micros "new" DS2-16 1TB with NetVue, and was shocked that the GE DVR is like 30% more expensive!!. My supplier suggested the Samsung 2162 as a cost effective alternative.

I've been looking at the DVMRe-CTII but the price is way too high, like 30% more than Dedicated Micros. I've gonna try the Samsung DVR's.

GE Kalatel DVMre CT 320GB DVR- Remote Networking help
CSG replied to 18pcs's topic in Computers/Networking
I just want to clarify my prior post in that most ISP's block inbound requests for port 80. Web browsing at the site would be an outbound port 80 request. So I take it you checked with your ISP's tech support and confirmed that inbound port 80 requests will work. -

Is your internet service provider blocking port 80? Most of the ISP's with dynamic IP usually block 80. Some DVR's won't work with name service either. -
I wouldn't run EMT in exterior applications since it's not water proof, and water may collect inside. Use either PVC or pipe (threaded fititngs).

A few years ago Sony had a camcorder that could see through peoples clothes. They pulled it off the market when this unique feature received unwanted publicity. I forgot what was unique to the cam that enabled this to happen.

My tech just busted my little Supercircuits handheld that runs off AAA batteries that he was borrowing. I had a feeling when he gave it back to me something was rotten. oh well they only cost $99

Intellicam???????? LOL That's a nice one if you don't mind a DVR with no reverse playback, only up to 4x forward speed, and watching video in 15 minute increments. So how much time does one waste looking for an incident, all day? Or does anybody actually use these things? I demoed the unit online and laughed at them.

you come onto this site demanding information? And what have you contributed here? My knowledge comes from years in the field as an installer, does your doctor or lawyer give free advice? So why should I as a licensed Security & low voltage professional give free advice to you?

How much time do they need? Dedicated has the BX2 with continous archive (hot swap), or the JBOD (just a bunch of disks). Or a PC system with a SATA raid. I think you just need alot of storage, so why hot-swap?

Any opinions of Dedicated Micros, digital sprites?

I don't get it, I should be experiencng these drive issues with DM, but don't. If you unplug the power supply without proper shutdown, or no UPS's , maybe thats an issue. I have Maxtors in a few Windows Domain servers and no failurres there either, as compared to WD, or IBM/Hitachi. You really don't need a CD-Burner with DM since you can use the Network Viewer program to save an avi file to your PC, then burn that if you want. Many DVR's don't have any CD interface, especially 4 channel units where price is focus. DM has DVR's with built in CD, and they cost more. Ya pay ya price and dats what you git. The manual is brief but complete. Most of it is self explanatory anyway. What DVR documentation is better? At least it isn't chinglish. I think it's kinda funny that this forum seems to dump on DM, but touts other DVRs that don't have even the most basic of features that Sprites had 8 years ago. -

Never had any type of problem like that, I've had drive failures and lightening strikes, but no freezeup, three times in a row no less wow. -
I had another security dealer tell me about a Samsung unit like what you described, but I never was able to find such a thing. It does sound like an interesting concept.

My jobs are generally in the 20k+ range, so a few hundred bucks on the price of a DVR isn't going to make a big difference if it meets the clients expectations, is easy to install, and I don't have to go back for free warranty or support calls because the client can't use it or the thing crashes. For the smaller jobs, the ECCO units are priced right, with all the features of the Sprites. GE has nothing comparable to the DM ECCO's other than the 4 channel Digia. Hard drives will crash on any DVR eventually. I'm sure one day technology will give us low cost large capacity flash memory, then we'll have a DVR with no moving parts (other than the fan). DM has great support. Sure they can drop the ball, but I wouldn't let one goofup characterize the entire product line. Their area rep will come out to my job site or my office to give in-person support. How many other suppliers can offer that? I can't even get bloody cutsheets from GE! I'm always looking for new DVRs that will be better, better resolution, more fps, easier to use, bigger drives, less cost, but i'll keep using the tried & true until I find something else. It's hard to continue this discussion without bringing dollar values in, but we can't discuss prices here. Dems are the rules. -

I've used a number of DM Sprites, Sprite2, and ECCO's. They are a reliable and well rounded DVR. I know I can plug & play, and walk away. Very important when I'm in some clients computer closet that is cramped, hot, spider webbed. They have a 2 year warranty. Even out of warranty their repair prices are fair, the support is top rate, and the turnaround is fast. -
Needing to post warning signs re: CCTV Systems being present
CSG replied to CraigVM62's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
In NY you don't need to post signs. However many do for the deterrence effect. Audio might be different, it tends to come down to the reasonable expectation of privacy. While no one would have an expectation of privacy to be seen (video) while on the street, a conversation between two people on the street would be assumed to be private from being monitored by a third person. -
Using a name service sounds good except there are always 2 problems that can come up. 1. Many ISP's block port 80. That means you need a DVR that will support other ports for browser based viewing. Some do not. 2. Some DVR software programs, can't resolve by name, they need a IP address. Therefore "myname.dyndns.org" won't work either.

I know your a camera guy, but any rumor of a GE Digia in 8~9 channel flavor?
-
Great, looking forward to bigger & better things

Great to have you here Jason. Maybe you can get GE to upgrade their security website, it's difficult to use and not that informative!

Couple of plastic milkcrates and piece of pipe, ridgid conduit, broomhandle,,whatever's handy!!

Well then you don't wanna know about the wholesale donut factory we used to service in Brooklyn years ago. The rats would run along the overhead pipes above the deep fryers. Well those pipes are all slippery from the grease, and occasionally a rat would fall in the deep fryer. They would ladle out the fried rat and keep cooking!! YUMMM

I once had a client who owned several KFC's in NYC. I serviced the burg alarms. One of his Napco panels needed replacing, the employees hit the panel with water during cleanup, we looked inside and it was loaded with roaches too, so I wasn't touching it. I used to wonder how many roaches were at the bottom of the deep fryer, as I saw an employee scoop out a dead one. Well I told him it was $300 to replace the panel & keypad, which he told me he could get it done free from someone else, I said fine seeya later.
