UTvol, I had a similar problem with EX-82's. I removed the extremes from the common power supply and uses a few wall warts (24 v wall transformers) on cheap power strip. Cleared up the problem. Something about Extreme cameras, they don't like to coexist with other cameras on a common power supply. Even Extreme support knows of the problem.

I wouldn't call a Wizkid-Extreme a cheap camera

The NY State License covers burglar, & fire only. Some counties have their own low voltage license, Suffolk for instance. NYC has special requirements for fire alarm install, fire monitoring, fire system service.

Rory, you should be out on a nice beach with a laptop & wi-fi.

SATA or IDE Hard Drives?
CSG replied to kandcorp's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
SATA allows for inexpensive RAID if you need it, as compared to SCSI -
How about a DVR/VCR lockbox which is made for the purpose. Also, since the DVR, once setup rarely needs access, how about placing it in a hidden location. (In a drop ceiling, closet,,,,)

Those compression style connectors suck. I was using the same ones from Liberty Wire & Cable. It was 50-50 if the center conductor found its way into the tip. Many crimps had to be redone after we connected to the DVR and there was no video. Back up the ladder again. Not fun. Many times you had to redo the crimps on both ends because you didnt know which end was bad. I contacted Liberty Wire & Cable and all they offered was lame excuses. This picture is a failed connector I sectioned. The "Z-ed" center conductor is plainly visible. www.consumers-energy.com/ebay/bnc.jpg Compression style crimps are very intolerant of variations in jacket diameters which vary from manufacturer. However I found even using Liberty's RG-59 the compression crimps had a high failure rate. I've had no failures with 3 Piece crimp Amphenols and a Paladin tools 3 stage strip. >SNIP> http://www.milestek.com/shop/product.asp?id=40%2040350&cid=&kwd=&l=&p= Is the best on the market. I have a contact there as we spent thousands of dollars there already. Tat price listed is a little higher, I think they cost us about $75 bux for the MAC DADDY OF BNC TOOLS. The connectors are from F-CONN, which they sell in packs of 100 and are about $1.20 - $1.80 each one, depending on how many you buy, but listen up kiddies, no more problems. They also sell this - http://www.milestek.com/shop/product.asp?id=40%2011412&cid=&kwd=&l=&p= Never fails! If your ready to toss your TUMS BOTTLE away get these connectors. http://www.milestek.com/search.asp?skw=MPWCNFC01&color=AB1DA1 Your all very wlecome! ADAM!

Hmmm, this sounds like a speed trap

For whats its worth DM does have a decent warranty program, so if the unit is under 2 years old it may not pay to change the drive yourself.

I installed a WZ15N D/N IR Bullet cam. The daytime image is great, the image in near total darkness leaves much to be desired. The specs call for 35'-40' illumination, I barely get 15, with very bad halo effect. This is the daytime image: www.consumers-energy.com/ebay/wz15n.jpg This is the image with no light. The subject is 15' out from the camera www.consumers-energy.com/ebay/wz15na.jpg WZ15N Features Sony 1/3â€

mobile/ PDA remote viewing confusion
CSG replied to washmaster's topic in General Digital Discussion
I think mobile viewing is too far on the cutting edge to be practical at this point. GPRS offers 119k bandwidth, which would be painfully slow for transmitting video. -
I've done it with DM Sprite 2 DVR in safes ,no problems, the heat is disipated inside the safe. Not exactly sure what you mean by a wall mounted unit. If youre still concerned about heat you can use a hole saw and install a 12v muffin fan.

How about a Pelco and a can of black spray paint? :^) Thats what I do to my CD and floppy drives when building black rack servers.

I like the little handheld unit Supercircuits sells. Runs off a 9v battery, slick for the price of $99.

Maybe you should call Altronix and yell WTF?

Rory, What causes those fine lines in your picture there?

Hi, Never used a Mac since the Apple 2 days circa 1985. But i'll give it a shot. DM Sprites will allow a browser to be used. Since a browser is a browser it should work on your mac. Just open your browser and enter the IP address and log in normally. You won't be able to use PTZ and the remote server configuration. Not sure if early Sprites support browser viewing.

I have many cameras outside that have been through 25 consecutive days of below 10 degree NY weather with no ill effects. Weather with a high of 10 and a low of 0 (Jan 2004). Both bullets & box cams in housings.

You can't rely on security dealer trade magazines because they are soley dependent on advertising dollars.

Keep in mind when comparing the cost of a consumer digital camera vs. a cctv camera. A consumer camera is mass produced on a much larger scale than cctv cameras. Therefore the lower volume will tend to drive prices up. Same holds true for composite monitors vs. VGA monitors.
