    LUX Meter

Mobotix cameras can give you a lux reading, IIRC.
  2. That one's a year old or so... so maybe it's the older ones that had separate wiring to that LED assembly.
  3. There are two sets of wires that go to the IR LED assembly. One set undoubtedly goes to the photocell (and you wouldn't want to disconnect those, of course), but the other set powers those LEDs. Here's one side of that LED assembly. And here's the side I already posted:
  4. The rules here generally prohibit the site dealers from outright advertising/selling in a regular thread. That said, if you want to buy from anybody here, send them a private message. I've done so multiple times, and have placed multiple orders with dealers who post here. I haven't had a bad experience yet.

Holy sh*t I'm no code inspector... but that's just stooopid. Edit: Is that friggin' speaker wire??

    Rugged Marine company

So there's actually a purpose-built camera for carwashes? Talk about your niche markets.
  8. So rather than make the feature work, they sh*tcanned it? Hmmm.

    ActI vs Axis

The Acti software may be free, but it's one of the furthest things from "user friendly" you can find. Talking somebody through setting it up is quite a chore.

Good to see you, scorpion... don't be a stranger. We need your big brain. You REALLY don't want rookies like me answering questions on here
  11. Truth, right there. However, the LEDs in the Acti 1231 can be unplugged:

    I might be a nerd...

I had to leave all that stuff behind once I had kids. Used to be a n00b-pwning machine at Counter-Strike
  13. This is true. You have to get the encryption configured, set your channel spacing to account for interference, determine how much bandwidth you're actually going to need, route/mount your APs/bridges appropriately, work around obstructions and other LOS issues... It can sometimes take a significant amount of work to get these things to talk to one another reliably.

    OMG OMG!

Like... they had better weed, man...
  15. An excellent point. When you have the option of using visible light, you should strongly consider it. It's much cheaper than going the IR route, provides some additional deterrence, and actually provides some color images.
  16. Another recommendation for Seagate. They've been my go-to hard drive for a number of years, and rarely do they disappoint me.

Whoa... he's helping pot growers secure their crops? And that's the quality of his work? Perfect... just perfect.

    LPR / ANPR advice

Wouldn't a Mobotix camera with appropriate B&W lens zoomed into the appropriate area not catch license plates? Combine that with internal storage on an SD card, and you'd have a full record of every vehicle that entered. It wouldn't be an LPR/searchable database, but you'd have a record of events you could search through if you were looking for the plate on a particular vehicle at a particular time.
  19. Absolutely. Go with separate illuminators... you're going to need them to cover that large an area.

    video recording to ssd drive.

I've used SSD drives in firewalls, PBXs, and other high-reliability devices. SSD + linux + fanless system = great uptime.

    video recording to ssd drive.

I wouldn't do it, unless you have some other reason for going SSD (temperature tolerance, shock/G resistance, etc). The cost-per-gigabyte is so high with SSDs that there is absolutely no reason to use them for routine video storage. For a drive to hold the OS? Sure... but for storage, get standard hard-drives.

    IP Camera Software

You are correct. Compression is not the primary function of these cards; digitizing analog video is. Some cards then compress that video, but some systems do the compression in software. This person is either lying to you, or doesn't know what he's talking about. Either way, you should stop talking to him. Either that, or send him in here to explain himself Oooh... that wouldn't be very nice.
  23. Yeah... it was pretty bad. I don't think it had ever been cleaned.

    IP Camera Software

Not Milestone. If you use Geovision cameras, then GeoVision is a nice solution as it doesn't require you to pay for licenses for all Geovision hardware. Why not? I've used it, and it's a pretty fair solution... especially since they've redone their pricing structure for their budget-line software. I'm happy with it.
