frosted replied to GrahamM's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
thanks btw chap for the emails, very helpfull. think im going to lookforward to the demo kit im getting in a month or so -
yeah i mean from my point im glad there is no real regs as its allowed me to get in the door easy. however im not some bloody egit! lol! i loved one guy today when my client got a quote from someone, well the cctv guy i saw said its 500 quid a cam and then 1.5k for the dvr. and just work out the cost on that. i actually laughed out loud at that !!!!!!! bloody idiots!
-
i have to say even converting to pounds (and stuffs crap expensive over here !) thats one hell of a lot of money!
-
yep thats right (as i have and are doing at the moment). this is why there are so many bloody idiots i have met doing installs locally. really is scary. im no expert but christ i dont charge the earth for crap and make sure i supply the same level of support and be as profinsinol as i am in my it consultancy business!
-
from the sounds of it id want more than bars lol!
-
yeah thomas for sure, can see it would be usefull for the cctv company to be able to do the dedicated network side for the cctv part. however only the company should touch their internal network setup.
-
thanks for the responce
-
mace? dont think ive heard of those in the uk unless im going mad. good cams? looks like nice images from what i can see
-
yep! unless you have to intergrate into an exisiting company network (and to be honest you should be seperating from any data or voip network if tis a large network setup they have unless your mad!) then its easy life
-
i really cant see the need for cisco certification for the installers , i mean if really required it the network kit can be setup inhouse or done by outside consultancy if required (actually what i did not my last one as did not have the time to do the network setup as well).
-
kandcorp - would it be possible to see larger versions of those images? (me being nosy ) and also what cams are those ? regards, sam
-
this is the point im picking up on being an it monkey. its being able to integrate the managment and wireing of the system into an allready existing it infrastructure. very very advantagous i would say. poe has brought this into real use though imo
-
i tell you what its an easy life being in cornwall compared to your area from the sound of it rory scary stuff! i would assume you have some badass security on ur home?
-
do you find the support cost of supporting pcs much of a problem with the cctv installs?
-
yeah thats seems pretty good chap, i can pm some suggestions if you want? i take most the dvrs your chuck out are pc based with cards?
-
This forum is becomming more and more usefull for me as my knowledge base expands and i understand more and more or what you chaps are saying. however i do find poeple quite carefull what they say about certain companines and products due to it being public. These use of the forum for me is to quite simply learn more about cctv and the best way to expand and make my business a sucsess. and i have to say this place has helped a lot! i would say an installer/owner/cctv worker area would be a very good idea. and to keep it monitred by common sence. if someone is going to spend enough time on here and post enough just to blag in, well they might as well just hack the damn forum for acsess. would be quicker!

i may be being thick, do you mean stream and save the data using File transfer protacol onto a server?

i would be very intersted in details or any photos you have from footage of these cameras in action. im getting some demo equipment lent to me to play with but im not convinced on these units best regards, sam -
excellent thread. some really interesting points. as an it guy myself i can see both sides of fence. im currently deciding what to do in regards to the cctv business ive been building in the uk. its actually cheaper in some instances to use ip based camera systems with a nvr than using a dvr/analoge camera system. im also hooked on the quality bug, and although there is no way the megapixel cams that are out at the moment are better than analoge in all instances, in most they do seem to come up best (from images and video ive seen at least, getting a demo soon of some bits). Im trying my best to learn the ideas of good camera placement, lenses e.t.c. and have been getting good results compared with the local muppets that seem to be doing it. I think the main thing to consider is that the it camp is offering a lot of value added items to sell onto customers, remote monitoring, acsess over wan/lans. all this stuff is bits you can charge for setting up. now or at a later date. i also thank god for poe! awsome stuff!
-
yeah i have been wondering about the demand in the uk for mobile units.
-
thanks thomas
-
ah right fair play rory allways the jar you cant see is the sweetest haha!
-
no i realise that. althought to be honest the point of this forum for me personally is to chat to other members in the trade. so if thats not possible not much point me being here .

im going of topic here, thomas chap, sent a few pms, asked in a couple of places. would like acsess to the dealer area... regards, sam
