My advice, get a ring doorbell from Costco or Amazon, somewhere with easy returns. I had none of the issues or problems described by the other user, but everyone's installation and infrastructure is different.

Hey folks, I want a minimum 8 channel system - 4 indoor, 4 outdoor, potentially 16 for stupid ideas. I am looking at a Lorex system - wireless/wired hybrid or a Hikvision package. Question - is there any reason NOT to get a hybrid system? Do the wireless cams from Lorex perform as well as Nest, Arlo, Piper, canary, etc.? Question - if the cost difference is not an issue, is Hikvision more of a cult choice than say Lorex? I do not need anything crazy, just video, storage, and email.

Ring doorbell. I purchased one and it was the best investment I have made. In fact, I followed up with two Ring stick-up cams. IMO, unless you want to do extensive rewiring in the home or drilling exterior holes into your place and running wires on the outside, Ring is a perfect INDOOR solution. I am buying a separate Lorex (Flir) system for the exterior.

Wireless hybrid? Lorex (by Flir) vs. Hikvision

I was looking at these particular choices: Lorex: https://www.lorextechnology.com/hd-ip-security-camera-system/high-definition-security-surveillance-system-with-8-cameras/LN10802-168W-1-p?gclid=CjwKEAjw1a3KBRCY9cfsmdmWgQ0SJAATUZ8bw5jS3IjoKZVPIf70qcvZ6wll3al6_NG-NDUw005tIhoC0mzw_wcB Amcrest: https://amcrest.com/amcrest-4-megapixel-2688-x-1520-8ch-network-poe-video-security-system-nvr-kit-four-4mp-poe-weatherproof-bullet-ip-cameras-164ft-night-vision-pre-installed-2tb-hdd-and-more-black.html Hikvision: ? -

Also, would Amcrest fall in the same general circle? -
Wireless hybrid? Lorex (by Flir) vs. Hikvision

Thanks for the reply. I would only use wireless as a last resort, but I like the potential in a pinch. How about Hikvision vs. Lorex (Flir), any real advantage of one over the other? I am guessing, maybe wrongly, that Lorex has better post-purchase support. -
I like Hikvision cameras, or at least they seem to be well-recommended by many people. If I get IP camera, I have two questions: 1. Should I just connect to a switch and use a desktop to control/record or get a NVR? 2. Are NVR's all fairly blind to the camera make?

I think I am leaning on getting a system from Costco. I know I want at least an 8 channel, IP, PoE system. Is there really a preference between Lorex, Swann, or Q-See? I do not want to spend $1 more than $1,000. I can supplement the night vision with motion detection lights.

I have purchased three IP cams - 2 Foscams and 1 HooToo. All three worked well, the 1080 Foscam provides the best video and viewing. The worst part of the Foscam is the never ending fight with plug-ins and Windows. Will all that said, is it worth trying a Fujikam? Is it pretty much the same as the rest? Is there anything that allows you to PTZ that is better than these three, but within their price range (approx. $90)? Thanks!

Fujikam vs. HooToo vs. Foscam

Sorry, I should have clarified, I was only looking for answers relevant to the above cameras or those in the same market. I am not interested in a $2,000 investment - just not my need. So sorry if the question insults you, but sarcasm and being a jerk is not the input I was seeking. Save it for someone that never saw it before. -
This appears to be a forum of CCTV experts and/or installers, of which I am neither. I am however curious as to how many of you that discount the "cheap" offerings of Costco have any real experiencing with installing and/or using the system(s) in question. I have been eyeing the the two systems below primarily for their price point. I am ideally looking for a system to provide home surveillance, indoor and outdoor, day and night, on all four sides of the house plus coverage in the garage and at both the front and rear doors. Is there is a preference of Swann vs. Q-See, or do they use the same internal electronics for the most part? Q-See QSD2216C16-250 16 Channel Network DVR with Remote Internet Monitoring and 16 Sony Sensor CCD Camera Kits Swann DVR16-8600 16 Channel Digital Video Recorder with 250 GB Seagate SV35 Hard Drive (5 Year Warranty) pre-installation

Any actual experience with these:

Well the good thing is that they will take it back if I am unsatisfied. All I am looking for is the clarity of the pictures/video during daylight at approx. 60 feet, and the same goes for night time clarity. -
Swann vs Q-See DVR System from Costco?
oneirishpollack replied to kitaudio's topic in General Digital Discussion
So are you saying it is about cost vs. features, chipsets, or technology? Should I be looking for cameras that cost over a certain amount to determine if they are going to work or not? Please help me understand this. -
Swann vs Q-See DVR System from Costco?

If your going to suggest the picture is all "grainy" and "crappy" can you suggest why? The Q-SEE offers the following: QD28194 Weatherproof Sony Sensor Camera Features: Image sensor: ¼†-

Alright, I am going to test one of the two systems. If you had to pick between Swann and Q-SEE in regards to quality, which would you choose? I will post the results after I have tested.
