  1. That is a lot of servers for so few cameras, are you running failovers? Are your cameras centralized or do you have them spread out in different buildings? Most of my buildings are fiber connected so I am backhauling the video to a central data room, that is the reason i want more cameras on less servers.
  2. Thank you for the response, I did read the thread , Milestone reps say that due to the 64bit architecture you can run as many cameras as your hardware will support. I have engineers flying in to look at our system. at 256 cameras currently averaging 8-10IPS with a combination of 1080P 720P and a handful of D1 cameras and a handful of higher MP cameras the CPU is at 20% utilization 42GB of the 64GB of available and the RAID10 using 24 10K drives we are nowhere near the limitaions of the hardware. The server has teamed 10g connectivity, I have 3 servers with the same load on them one of the servers is working fine the other two are complaining. I have failover servers so I am not worried about having all my eggs in one basket since i have extra baskets. I will post the resolution that we come up with when they come out next week. Again I wanted to know what others are doing to get a consensus of what is working for others.
  3. The system is dropping frames from time to time and it is more prevalent when an archive kicks off. We have been able to determine it is not hardware we are nowhere near what the hardware can do. I wanted to see what others are doing and if they are running as many cameras as I am or more what did they change in the XML file to get everything to play nice.

Best IP Camera brand that you use.

We use Milestone Corporate for our system, Avigilon and Genetec were the runner ups in our testing. I did not care for the licensing structure of Genetec. Avigilon does have some nice features but at the end of the day Milestone had a the features we needed and it met our needs for mobile and mobile push. (sending video from a cell phone to be recorded in the system) Also not all Avigilon cameras will work with other VMS's.
  5. Currently I have a little over 250 cameras running on Milestone Corporate on a single server. We are running into some issues is anyone else running this many cameras on a single recorder or more? What settings did you change in the software that allowed you to run if you are? The server CPU is running at 20%, 2/3 of the Ram is still available and we are at 35% of the the live database raid10 can handle. My goal it to run between 300-400 cameras. Thank you in advance

I manage a 1500+ city wide cameras system and I have tested a lot of cameras over the years. My vote is for Axis. For many reasons the most important is that they are easy to manage. When you have as many to look after it needs to be consistent and easy to manage. Lowest failure rate of any camera we have deployed... less than 1%. I do stay away from the M-series and we only use P and Q series. Worst camera that we have used by far has been Arecont.
  7. Nice set up we looked at a similar option for sever/ storage solution but for our needs it was not quite what we needed. Currently we are using the 9.8TB of formatted storage on on the server for live video only, and archive to an EMC Isilon unit. Currently we have about a half a PB of video storage. I will need to add a tray possible two if we keep adding on at our current rate.
  8. I apologize in advance for thread jacking but I stumbled on this thread looking for a solution. I have an old PC using the Network Client software to view 8 Intellix DVR's the PC is 7 years old. I have a new replacement PC for viewing video when I attempted to install the software (latest version from the website) the install stops and asks for a product ID, it is 20 digits long. I do not have any of the paperwork or CD's that came with the DVR's. Is there a place to locate that information on either the DVR or the client PC?
  9. I know this is an old post what drives did you end up selecting. I have 9 of the Dell R72XD's currently in place. 24 900GB 2.5in SAS drives two SSD's for the OS. The 24 drives is configured in a Raid 10. On my test machine I have 120 1080P camera running at 15IPS and I am not even stressing the unit yet. For larger systems and the price point it is difficult to find a better value.
  10. I have an Intransa server that is hung in the bios due to bad drives I wanted to get into the Bios to check on some things does anyone know the Bios password for an intransa appliance?http://www.cctvforum.com/posting.php?mode=post&f=19#
