I have just bought this DVR having previously owned an AVC761 for several years. Having got it I realize now how out of date my old one is. I have been reading this forum and have learned some useful stuff, I still however have a few queries. 1/ There are times when I will want to turn the unit off and there is no physical shut down button to do it, I have however noticed a virtual one at the bottom of the left menu when connected directly to the DVR. The only other option is to switch off at the back which can't be good for hardware or software. I can't find any info regarding this so I don't want to try without being sure. 2/ The other issue is one I have had for a long time and is probably caused by me. I have always used dyndns to monitor my camera's while away from home, their updater does a good job of updating the internet IP when it changes, but only when my home PC is on. If the IP doesn't change while I'm away, all is well but if it does, bang goes my access. I am now giving Avtechs own system a go and am wondering if I will have the same problem with that. Unless my IP changes when I'm away I will not know. Any advice will be greatly appreciated

I have had an Avtech AVC761 for several years now and have had no problems with it. However I am now looking to by a newer model and am wondering if anyone can give me any advice. The model I have has a very noisy fan and I had to install my own HDD but apart from that it's been good to me. I want something now that I can view from an android operated device as well as a PC and have seen a few models but no reviews on them (DR082 & 796) both support 8 camera's but are they any good? Can anyone help?

Hi scorpion, I used to read your posts all of the time when I first got my DVR, you helped me a lot. Many thanks. I use Firefox to browse my cameras via DYNDNS as in your picture, java has to be downloaded to enable the video as it doesn't use activeX. But generally when IE logs me on it fires up java to display the video and I never have to go through the configuration in options, they both work with this method and I have never had any problems until now.. When at home I use Video Server E through the LAN and this still works on the Laptop with Windows 7. I really think that the version of java which is downloaded to work the video web server in Opera/Firefox&IE is having a problem with the new OS.

I have had this machine a few years now and have had no problems to speak of. After installing windows 7 yesterday on my laptop (clean install) I now am unable to access my camera's from the web server. I downloaded java and logged on as usual but no picture, just the normal screen but with a white box where the video should be. Video Server E works OK on the Lan from the IP Address so java must be working, at least on that program. Can anybody help please
