    frame rates

In my experience, 10fps is PLENTY for most applications. 1-2fps is too slow, unless you are going to catch people standing still (like at an ATM) If you're in a casino trying to catch someone dealing from the bottom of the deck, you may need 30+. But to identify an intruder, and provide decent evidence, somewhere between 4fps and 10fps is adequate.

    Holiday work

Want to make the trip tax-deductible, eh? Sorry, I'm in Idaho, which is about 1,600km from Los Angeles, and maybe 700km from San Francisco. GE's Kalatel group has a large office in Costa Mesa (LA area). Maybe you could visit them?

Which DVR has the best features?

Interesting how fragmented this market is. Over half of us don't prefer one of these leading mfgr's.

    Phone Transmitters

Checked out Alnet's website. Very nice. Are you sure about PalmOS, though? I saw mentions of java, symbian and PocketPC, but no mention of PalmOS. Tungsten has pretty decent video support in the OS, but no other version of Palm does.

    Phone Transmitters

Have not seen anything else quite like the Kalatel 1600 before. Many DVR's allow remote access through the Web, through dial-up connection. Not quite the same thing... Our product lets you view your video system on a java-enabled cell phone. Also not the same thing, but pretty cool in its own right. http://www.astaskywire.com/products/skywirevideo/secure.asp
  6. There are several wireless outdoor network cameras, but all of them require AC power., as far as I know.
