Are you saying UTP can't handle the bandwidth? That would be a stretch since CAT-5 is rated to at least 100MHz and CAT-6 is rated to at least 250MHz. LOL, not the wire man, the baluns.
-
Hahahaha! Awesome.
-
The real drawback is actually the bandwidth. 1Mhz = 80 lines of res The high end ones are 5Mhz, or 400 lines of res. Think about that for a second. How many 540 line cameras are on UTP? Why?

Are DVR cards over?
Erron S. replied to Renegade's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
So very true. There was a trend there for a little while where every dealer out there that was looking to save a buck and built their own systems. Some succeeded, most failed....badly. There's a number of ways you can configure a PC into a DVR. The right way you won't find by surfing the net. You're much better off by going to a reputable company that has been doing it for many years. That way they have gone through all the 'do's and dont's' and have a successful way of manufacturing. You're paying for that expertise and in the long run, it's worth it. Oh, and Soundy is the man. Just wanted to point that out. He's got great posts every time. -
Is "cheap security" an oxymoron?
Erron S. replied to DoorMan's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
We do on the client side. The client software is free of course and includes our mapping software as well. We have a number of cameras that are preprogrammed into our dvrs and are list among the drop down menu with their IP finder utilities. Let's see, the client software can had here.. http://www.3xlogic.com/software It's probably best to have me walk you through it and show you all the goodies. If you have time, call me and I'll show you the bells and whistles. Our compatability list for cameras is here... http://www.3xlogic.com/supported-ip-cameras We currently are setup to integrate with the RBH line of access control, but there's a number of ways to integrate through the DIO boards. I'd bet we can get pretty close to what you want with one of the interfacing boards. -
LOL! It's the new pan, tilt, holla!!!

Hi Janet! I'd say just jump into the forums and start asking away. What did you need help with?

Researchers Hack IP Video
Erron S. replied to Squiffy's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
The part of the story that really defuses it is the "physical access to the network". I look at that like if someone were to get access to the building to connect directly to the network there's a lot worse things they can do than try and loop a video. I'd think if a criminal got into a building why wouldn't they just walk over and take the entire dvr. -
CCTV Digital vs Analog - Have they improved at all?
Erron S. replied to 34886's topic in General Digital Discussion
Oh man, your story is really a bummer. With features on the market now like 'smart search' and various analytics, finding something in a search should take seconds. At least on our machine it does. Highlight object, put in a date parameter, hit search. Burning that info to a disc takes less than a minute unless you're burning a ton of data. (30+mins of video or something) I know of a number of jails that have our systems (along with military applications) that love the operation and especially with megapixel cameras, they get what they are looking for. Have you looked at any of the newer technologies available today in the PC DVR/NVR market? It may time for you to shop again my friend. -
IP Cameras, which brand or setup
Erron S. replied to hgiljr's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Well, it depends. How much you want to spend really. If cost was not a consideration, I would go megapixel IP. Holiday decorations are typically a source of light by themselves so the need for IR doesn't seem to fit. (correct me if i'm wrong please) If you go megapixel, you'll have something (ID shot) to give to the police with nice, clear images. You may get a decent result with IR cameras, but are you trying to be covert for any reason? If not, why use a light source that -isn't- a deterent? I like to think it's better to not get vandalized than to have video of vandalization. -

I'm really fond of the IQ Invision stuff myself. What would you like the NVR software to do? Since we write our own software, we could probably help you. -

Real World Network Impact of Megapix Cameras
Erron S. replied to ini's topic in Computers/Networking
I think Soundy answered this perfectly. I would add one thing to the mix as well as we start to see more PCI/SOX/HIPPA requirements come down the pipeline. We are building complient machines that may help you if they require this for their network. If you have a minute, check out the white paper here. http://www.3xlogic.com/pci Hope that helps. -

The more I read, the more lost I am ... I need guidance
Erron S. replied to 1911a1's topic in General Digital Discussion
Great questions, and you're right, it IS confusing as to what the best route for you would be. This is honestly where a security professional comes in. To be honest, your budget is fairly low, but there are solutions out there that may work for you. If I were in your shoes I would talk to your local security professional and see what sort of solutions they can provide to you. -
Is HDcctv a viable alternative to Megapixel IP Cameras?
Erron S. replied to jhonovich's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I've seen the drop out happen quite often when the POE is said to be the IEEE802.af standard of 15.4 watts per output, but -really- can't maintain that level of output. There are quite a few cameras hitting the market now that are class 2 or even class 3 cameras which require a lot more wattage to keep them up and running as well. Just about every single time we see cameras dropping the simple solution is to power a couple of the cameras locally with a transformer. Since the switch is probably diverting power to the cameras that need it most, it's pulling it from somewhere. (the other cameras) In these cases I look for the switch's power budget, then don't exceed 80% of the total power output just to be on the safe side. What Arecont's are they and what make/model switch is it? -
Which NVR Can Keep up with Multiple Megapixel Cameras
Erron S. replied to aalbert's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Thanks Soundy! We appreciate the recommendation. If I can answer any questions at all, please ask. -
I typically sell the 'sense up' dome camera from GSP America. I have one on my house as well. Incredible little cameras when it comes to low light. I can still see the green grass with very little ambient light.
-
One thing to note when talking about POE switches and cameras. There are a number of POE cameras that are hitting the market now that are class 3, 14+watt cameras. (huge power draw cameras) I've seen a number of these exceed the maximum power rating on a few switches. Something to keep in mine when out bidding and specing.

IP video with sound for classroom
Erron S. replied to jimmyNJ's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
You show a missunderstanding of video. Did you know not all DVD's are D1. many are CIF. A full screen CIF image is almost as clean as a 4CIF image when viewed at 756x582 resolution. This is for Indigo anyway. I know many others will not be the same case It is only when you electronic zoom that there is a real difference to 4CIF. If you wanted to stream at 4CIF 30ips, i would start at 512Kbps. We can record at 4CIF on site and stream live at CIF, giving the best of both ends. I'm still refering to this post. As the thread progressed you went from this statement all the way up to HD re-compression. Which we do as well, http://www.3xlogic.com/megapixel There's a chart on there for you. My quam is this first statement as you said I don't have an understanding of video, then you totally changed what we were talking about. I still want to see this CIF image that looks as good as a 4 CIF image, which is what started this discussion that I quoted above. Now, if you want to talk about megapixel cameras and recompression, then let's talk about megapixel recompression and not wander off topic. -
IP video with sound for classroom
Erron S. replied to jimmyNJ's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
hmm his video the way i can see has average frame size of 6.4KB Right, he touted a CIF video, then said 4CIF, then posted a megapixel video. This thread has wandered off on a tangent. -

I still just want to see your best quality 4 Cif video like you said to me on page 1. Let's see it, toss it out here for everyone to check out. You posted a 720p video? -
IP video with sound for classroom
Erron S. replied to jimmyNJ's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
OK My mistake, that was VCD. However A DVD is always 720x480 (unless you live in PAL land). As stated here, pixel count does not state resolution. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image_resolution You can have a megapixel camera with worse resouldion than my CIF cameras. I will post a clip when I find a good CIF/4CIF of the same scene from my product. Seeing is believing Agreed. Looking forward to the video. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Resolution_illustration.png
