I got this email too from Sal, which was good news - until he told me that it's not compatible with the cards that used dongles. I asked for info on trade-in, but what a bummer. I thought it would be a nice value added upgrade for my customers. -WC-

Hi guys, Weird thing, one machine isn't serving data. Came in and checked, says WEB in the upper right nav area. Rebooted server and it gives me the 'Start Server Fail!" error dialog box. Then it loads as normal, with the WEB in the upper right nav area. Browsing to the server on the local network or offsite (and even from the same system) results in page can not be displayed. Any idea what is wrong? Everything else seems to be good, temp in system fine, the system is online (posting from it now), no firewall, etc. XP Pro P42800 1GB ram, etc. -WC-

Yeah, I am pretty familiar with the antivirus and antispyware arena. I kind of was hoping to keep the systems at a point where we didn't have to install those programs. The system is in a locked small room, no browsing or logging in for that matter. Nice idea on installing, but turning off autoprotect/startup. And no, I haven't reinstalled the software yet, but will do if there's no obvious fix. Maybe a good reason to install whatever is the latest version. Thanks for your help, WC

This is a dedicated DVR system. I already have the port forwarded to port 8888 on all our systems to get around some places' preset use of port 80. Works good to do that by policy I have found. It's on an internal network and to save resources I by policy don't install AV software. I figured it would be safe behind the network's router. Damn, I hope that's not the case. What do you guys do for AV on these systems? Just install it and consider it a necessary evil or do as I did and not install AV? I am not on site anymore, but will go back tomorrow and run all scans. Crap, this makes me look sloppy if I allowed it to become virused.. No other software installed other than Geovision, Nero for DVD burning. No messaging, nothing. I think there's a raid admin type program that I never run, that isn't running all the time though. -WC-

Thanks. This is a server that I have had active for almost a year. Atleast 6 months. It is version 7.01 I believe. -WC-

IIS not installed, server service is on. -WC-

No, I don't think so - but will verify. Another oddity is that I can't remote to it via remote desktop from a computer on the same local network. That sort of points to a firewall problem I would guess, but there is none. -WC-

I thought this was supposed to release in September - one with major interface changes and such. Did it happen and I missed it? The webpage doesn't seem to mention the change and the demo movie still shows the 'eyed' version. Thanks, -WC-

great, thanks guys. -WC-

Weird situation. Customer has Geo 7.1.something installed, I have it set to ports 8888, 3550, 4550. Remote access to the server works fine through the router in that I get the dialog box to download the software and browser helper objects. I get to the dialog box asking for username and password. It will take that password and just sit there. I have this process sitting here that I started 2 hours ago - it has the 'webcam' title, sitting on 'Execute' in the middle of the screen in what looks like a pseudo-video-player. Any guess? -WC-

Problem with Geovision remote access, almost works but...

Need screenshot of desktop ftp'd every minute - doable?
WildCard posted a topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Customer has a geovision 1000 with 11 cams, and wants something setup to get a screenshot of their desktop on a webpage every 30 or 60 seconds. Anyone know a way to take a screenshot with XP Pro, convert it to JPG or some other compressed means, upload it via FTP? Would be nice to increment the newest save - and have a PHP script just display the newest pic on the page. Thanks guys, -WC- -
How much bandwidth is needed to remote view Geovision system
WildCard posted a topic in Computers/Networking
Is there a chart or formula that approximates what you need for certain frame rates remotely? Example, how much upload would you need to get 7.5, 15, & 30 fps per camera for cards with 4,8, or 16 cams live. I assume that different dvr cards have different needs. Although I would love to know the info for different cards, I am particularly interested in Geovision setups. Thanks! -WC- -
that page isn't loading for me, but watch out for very cheap lcds. The worst 'deal' I've ever seen was a great priced lcd but the return policy stated that you couldn't return the lcd if it had LESS than 9 dead pixels. I hate if I see an LCD with one dead pixel it's bad. Imagine 5,6,7, or 8! -WC-

Drive storage rates, does this sound right?
WildCard posted a topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
I have a Geovision 8 cam system capturing 15fps/cam (120 frames total). I have the store setup to record round the clock from 9am to midnight, and motion only from midnight to 9am. This unit is getting around 15 day's storage before filling up - and I have 4 200gb drives in raid 5 (580ish GB effective). So it's working out to be around 4.5GB/cam/day. Does that sound about right? I am using simple 420 line domes at this store. The customer has stated a desire to have the storage save to around 30 days on the HD. Are there tweaks to make the recordings smaller HD wise, other than to increase the motion only setting? -WC- -
Where are you buying your RG59 locally in US?
WildCard posted a topic in Installation Help and Accessories
I called around for some 95% copper RG59 (18/2) siamese, and the best I could do locally in Midwest USA is: $523.92 for a 1000' roll of Belden brand cable! Outrageous! I figured it would be slightly more expensive given that I an not a registered customer of theirs, so I anticipated the non-dscounted retail price, but come on! I am presently paying $90ish shipped for a 500' spool of generic, sort of copper chinese made cable. I hoped getting the cable local would allow me to get the better cable for about the same price as the generic shipped. -WC- -
Are there others like you that are working on trying to keep things moving in the right direction? This is the first I have heard of Cuban medicine. What's up with that? -WC-

A better way to remote desktop.

Someone had mentioned that VNC is very insecure vs remote desktop. Anyone hear that too? -WC- -
Spiders are eating my hard drive!
WildCard replied to bob the b's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
This is probably NOT a good suggestion, but thought I would offer it anyways. How about installing a dim light somewhere in the area of the cams, but not really close. Like 20 feet away. I imagine the spiders will only build where they feel there is a good opportunity to catch bugs - if the bugs have moved over to the light, I imagine the spiders might too? I think Rory's suggestion about an industrial class insecticide is probably what you will want. -WC- -
Geovision Port forwarding assignments
WildCard posted a topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
I want to setup remote webcam viewing, just wanted to confirm that all I need to setup is: 80 3550 4550 5550 and 3389 for remote desktop, right? Thanks- -WC- -
would it help to just take one of those industrial shop-vac's (do you call them that on the island?), just suck them all up - and then keep doing that every 10 minutes or so? Certainly that would lower the colony over time... That, or get some aardvarks as pets... -WC-

How much bandwidth is needed to remote view Geovision system
WildCard replied to WildCard's topic in Computers/Networking
That is expensive as hell Down here in georgia you can get 3M/768K up. Expensive, yes, but all business internet plans are more expensive than residential customer plans - nationally in US anyways. The 3M/768k for $50 in GA is probably at your home, right? The business cable plans are running around $90ish for 512k/256k. Yahoo/SBC dsl appears to be cheaper for faster. -WC- -WC- -
How much bandwidth is needed to remote view Geovision system
WildCard replied to WildCard's topic in Computers/Networking
yeah, this 8 cam system seems to only have enough bandwidth to squeeze 2-5fps out TOTAL among all the cams - and that is only when it ignores 4 of the cams. The customer is on some old 384k/128k plan for $50/mo. Pretty cheap for a business plan, pretty crappy on a practical level. -WC- -
How much bandwidth is needed to remote view Geovision system
WildCard replied to WildCard's topic in Computers/Networking
I figured it wouldn't be cut and dry... Crud. What setting changes did you make in the Geovision software to prevent the freezing? My situation is that an install I recently did is a 8 cam geovision, and they only have 128k upload available. I am working on getting more bandwidth setup, but in the mean time I am only able to pull up 4 cams at around 1fps each. So if there is a way to optimize the config, that would be great. Even if we can get each fo the 8 cams to show a frame a minute, that would be minimally acceptable. -WC-
