i think they have mediocre domes but for the price what do you expect?

i have heard from members on this forum that a simple ups backup or surge protector is not enough to protect dvrs and cameras from a power spike or surge generated by mother nature. so what is it called and any recomendations on brands, specs, and where to get it??

has anyone any experiance with retrofitting a dvrme with bigger hardrives, say replacing a 160 gig with 2/ 320's ? is it a plug and play and do the drives self format? does the speed matter? your help is greatly apprieciated.

ive got a pano 484 camera in a retail site running genises standard siamese cctv cable except when i power the cam thru the siamese line the picture goes nuts [static only] but when i power it thru a single 12 v. power supply it works fine. the siamese goes to a 16 channel 12 volt power panel with 4 other cams [ganz, sanyo]. i tried hooking up another camera to the siamese run in question and it worked fine? so why would this pano cam freak out on the power supplied in the panel but run fine on a seperate 12 v.single power supply? is it because the pano can run on either 24 or 12 volts?? the whole system runs thru a ge dvrme-640-a.
-
can i just reverse the 2 wires from the power panel to see if it is a polarity issue? the run is less than a 100' and wire is 18 awg. one power panel is a 16 channel 12 volt with 5 12v. cams and the other is a 8 channel power dist box 12v with 5 cams both have only the one pano 484. i will have to check but i dont think the pano has any switch regarding whether or not to run on 12 or 24 volt?
-
i tried the same thing at another site and same results??? i just have to run the 484 on a seperate single power supply, and i dont know why??
-
it is being shipped to me shortly, i will forward that info when i get it, thanks.

has anyone had any success with using the aforementioned router for remote viewing on a adsl line 1.5 download / 385 kb upload ? all the lights work and internet access works but so far no gettin on to the site remotely? the site is a store with a ge dsr 2000e. is it possible to have something wired funny in your phone lines preventing remote viewing [uploading] but still you can access the web? [downloading] static ip address also. the phone line carrier is Mcleod USA. 2 line system with fax, credit card terminal , and monitered alarm system

they are trying to connect a cctv system to be remotely viewed by the owner and the port forwarding and the bridgemode aspects have been adressed i was told. -
Pano 484 . in an interior retail site this camera gives the best picture ive had to date. i have not however compared it to the bosch or any 1/2" cams. the pano almost looks 3-d in clarity however the floresant lites do make the picture prone to "blooming". Initially i had the line sync on internal , changing this to LL helped a lot. Setting the parameters is some work. i have the agc at low, i dont use the abf, alc superIII is on, sense up is off, white bal at atwI, and backfocus setting at fix. i am still getting a little too much backlight but when its tweeked right it looks sureal.

what do you think is the best interior dome for retail applications with floresant lighting in a high res for the money ? i mean something with quality like the pano 484 sd III or ?

actiontec modems and remote viewing with wave reader
blowrabbit posted a topic in General Digital Discussion
i have been using and with mixed results remote view on both an older phillips dvr1 and a kalatel dsr the actiontec wireless router/modem gt-701. i have upload speeds [dsl] at the site of maybe 750kbs and broadband remotely for viewing. i often get time outs or messages that say check your connections. [rory, i talked to the support tecks at ge about your bin files downloads and they said it would not affect the functionality of remote viewing, so i didnt do the bin flashs.] could they be mistaken?? anyway i have two sites on now but the ability to[save files] upload from the site sucks, so playback with audio just aint happening? any thoughts?? who has the best in audio/video remote view dvrs?
blowrabbit posted a topic in Digital Video Recorders
what do you think is the best mid to high range dvr that supports audio with the video on one channel to be accessed REMOTELY via wan to play both live and playback of prerecorded time. ideally one that does it without haveing to save it to a file first [wavereader]. i have heard from clinton electronics that they have an embeded dvr #800 coming out soon that will do this. who is the big frog in this small pond? -

looking for audio with video dvr on remote play and live
blowrabbit posted a topic in Security Cameras
my client wants to be able to hear and see [audio/video] what is happening at his retail store either live or when its closed to review activity from yesterday to 60 days ago. we have found wavereader to be cumbersome to do this on a dsl line [upload speed at site 256 to 500 kb] remote site with broadband/comcast very fast. it seems really slow and often times out or and error messange in the save file window after the disk analyisis window.[check connections message] it takes 15 minutes to upload 32 kb before it crashes. maybe some config is off or maybe it is the old 2001 calaber dsr 2000e and its remote functionality? but regardless the ge prosafe 11 does not even support live audio and i have come to learn that the sanyo tiger does at 3fps +. i might be too much of a rookie on the remote hook up to make a qualified judgement on the remote audio, what do you think? Sanyo or Prosafe II ? -
looking for audio with video dvr on remote play and live

hey rory, i have got the 1.20 version of the dsr2000e single channel with a 320 gb hd. this amount of gigs seems to conflict with your specs on the upgrading of firmware? i quess the bottom line is like you said, i need a broadband connection instead of a dsl, as an upload speed of 750kb at the site [dsl] is way too slow when your trying to upload 12 hours of audio/video or [4600mb]. but any improvement would be great, and i look forward to any help you have, thanks, again. -
i have a pano 484 cam in a retail situation under floresant lighting and for some reason only this camera changes the color of flat white surfaces of the counter every 5 seconds to a shade of yellow. this happens just in a spot in the middle of the picture that probaly reflects a lot of ambiant light. this does not happen with other cameras and ive tried other lenses and swaped just about everything including cable runs. it still does this and ive put the settings on the pano on default and ran it on both voltages. there is a significant amount of backlight that whites out the picture somewhat when its real sunny but over all the picture with this cam is almost 3d. the color change is subtle but annoying to me? any thoughts?
-
well to tell the truth it is still the better of the lot i have used [levons ganz, sanyos 2or 3 years old 6794?]. but i think if i changed out the floresant bulbs to a different kind of bulb, say a soft or a eco-lite it might take care of the problem? but yea, it kinda sucks. i am surprized no one else has had simular experiances with it? and yea for the money the ganz is best.

looking for audio with video dvr on remote play and live

["I dont know of any of the GE and older Kalatels that do streaming audio though, or do you mean playback of audio remotely? "] i meant both live audio/video and playback audio/video. i find it a *** that you have to first save the files before you can play them with audio but if the thing actually uploaded in a reasonable amount of time on a dsl line i could live with it. and i think i have got the 1.3 version as my unit has a 320 gig harddrive? I'll check first as you say, and thanks , you rock! i wish GE's tech phone support was half as helpfull as you. -
finally in response to your suggestions i turned off the sd111 and changed the white balance and it corrected the yellow/white thing. thanks.

does anyone know of a high quality dvr that lets the user swap out the harddrive so you can take that drive and hook it up to a remote computer to access its contents , just as you would in a remote view functionality on say a ge dvr? the purpose would be to not loose any quality in the picture and to give the people or employees being observed less of a sense of "big brother" looking at them.
-
i take it by the lack of response that there are not any dvrs that offer removable hard drives to play at a remote location?
