I used a speco tn-8, series dvr with a vga output to a computer lcd display and getting a poor quality picture. Do the resolution have to match both the dvr & monitor. It is not a security monitor it is a 19" I noticed another alarm company using LCD monitors instead of CRT type, the picture on those monitors are good. I see them now being used in malls and 7-eleven stores etc. Their picture quality is three time the quality of my system, why?????

Here is the layout: Speco 8 channel DVR with video BNC out and VGA out. I selected to use VGA monitors. Two of them, one at the DVR and one at the cash register. The greatest distance is 25 feet of cord which is a 15 pin VGA monitor cable. The monitor cable at the DVR is 3 feet. That is the installation. The monitors are Computer monitors not BNC security monitors. Cy Cattani

how are these cameras hooked up, what is needed. Please a short step by step explaination. What is the jacking or plug requirement etc. ???

we install all types of cameras, DVRM's, illuminators etc, but we are not great with remote view devices. So know nothing about IP installation type cameras. So how do you hook-up and what is required as far as it is tied to a broadband connection or what, is a router required. What is required by my customer, what service is he or she required to have???

What cameras gave you guys the best results when a total darkness situation arises? Someone is using my customers Trash Dumpster. Black and white is fine.

In any case Rory, how do I improve the quality of the VGA picture. I am adding another 15" Lcd display at the customer check-out and am going to use a VGA splitter and I understand it has an amplifier built in. I have not installed it yet but will the next installation at this site.

The Falcon uses MPEG-4 compression which has three times the storage as most of the cheaper brands. I was up against a competitor who used the Falcon and the quality was much better than the unit I used. Also the Falcon was able to be adjusted for lighting during playback and gave more frames/second for the same speed I used on my unit. Buy it !!!!!!!

I've come to the conclusion that MPEG 4 is the best compression technology so far with the least storage space. Is this correct????

Over-all, dollar for dollar, what are the three DVRs' that most of you guys use the most? I have been using the CCTV Cameras Direct and the 4 channel and 9 channel units with no name 160 GB but they run out of storage or I get only 10 days tops using 4 cameras at basic resolution I am tired of making the wrong selection and want to standardise at the lowest outlay of cost with max comprssion. I think its termed M-Peg4?

What is the differance between all the speed and storage capacity or the compression, for example JPEG, M-PEG, M-PEG4, M-PEG1, M-PEG2 and M-PEG3? Which one is good, better, best etc.?

I used a dvr generic brand from CCTV Cameras Direct, a 9 chanel but only using 4 cameras. I can only get 7 days recording time. A competitor gets 23 days using a Falcon 9120. I need to get equal or more days. I am set on basic quality and 4 ips. This equates to 1 ips per camera. I am also using motion alarm recording. The chart says on basic and 4 ips I should be getting 15 days. What to you think of the Falcon and what is the type of compression use by ATV Falcon???

Rory: I was down the bahamas 4 or 5 times, How is it down there now? In 1991 I think I stopped down to your place to discuss the "CAT" tamper switch for bell and siren housings. I am the inventor of that switch. I since sold it to Miricon Security. We gave GRI an exclusive on marketing it back in 1989. We stayed on Paridise Island everytime and once in the Grand Bahamas. I have a customer who is using " Halide Metal white Light " type of outside parking lot lighting. What effect will this have on camera picture at night ? This is a black and white system with a DVR multiplexer ? I am getting ready to change cameras from Panasonic wvp-134 which is .08 lux to a .0003 lux camera, but am concerned about the Halide Metal lighting.
